Nivea Visage Light Moisturising Day Cream
Advantages: Good value, good results, no sensitivity
Disadvantages: Takes a little longer to absorb than some creams
The only time I have used a cream other than Nivea, is when a different moisturiser has been bought for me as a gift or if I have treated myself to a more expensive moisturiser when it has been on offer.
Although I loved the Clinique moisturiser my daughter bought me a while back, I can't really justify the price to buy it for myself. I have also experienced good results using L'Oreal moisturisers, but I can't help thinking that I have no need to pay more for the expensive high end brands when Nivea moisturisers always seem to work equally as well on my skin at a fraction of the price.
I used the Nivea cream in the blue tub which I loved from my childhood for a long time but then Nivea began to introduce various other moisturisers to their range for specific skin types. One of these is their Daily Essentials Rich Moisturising Day Cream which I love and have purchased many times. However, when I recently ran out of this product and needed to buy some more, I discovered that it was out of stock in my local Asda when I went to buy some.
Needing to buy some that day and not having time to go elsewhere, my attention was drawn to the other Nivea products they did have in stock and this is what led me to purchase their Daily Essentials Light Moisturising Day Cream. Of course I knew it would be lighter than the rich cream I had previously used, but I decided to give it a go anyway and priced at just over £3 for a 50ml tube, it wasn't a lot to pay if it wasn't really suitable. Being Nivea, I was confident of the quality but unsure whether this would be really suitable for my skin seeing as how I loved the richer edition so much.
Nivea Daily Essentials Light Moisturising Day Cream is formulated for normal and combination skin. Now I definitely have combination skin which can be dry in places around my face and sometimes feel sensitive, which is why I like the richer cream so much as it is formulated for dry areas which can be sensitive. However, as this was a 'light' cream and suitable for combination skin, I felt reasonably confident that this may suit my skin too. As I am getting older, I consider myself to be fortunate in that I don't seem to have any major wrinkles appearing yet, however, I am noticing that my skin especially on my face, is becoming dry and at times it can look and feel quite sensitive, especially on a morning.
This day cream contains vitamins and natural Lotus extract and gives your skin the intensive moisture it needs to support its natural balance, providing your skin with intensive moisture for 24hrs to leave a fresh skin feeling.
With the inclusion of SPF 15 and extra UVA filters it helps to protect your skin from environmental influences and premature skin ageing. I won't buy a moisturiser without SPF included and so this was also an important factor in my purchase.
I have been using this cream for a number of weeks and whilst I don't think it is as good for my skin as the richer cream I used previously, it is good enough for me to continue using it until the tube is empty and I am quite happy with the results.
The fragrance reminds me of the original Nivea cream I loved but with an added floral tinge. It isn't particularly a strong-smelling cream but the scent is nice enough and I wouldn't want to use a heavily fragranced cream on my face as my skin can be sensitive. This cream has been dermatologically approved.
You should apply the cream after cleansing/ washing your face, by gently massaging it in small circles around your face and avoiding the eye area.
I use this cream every morning and find my skin instantly loses its dryness upon application and if my skin is looking or feeling sensitive one morning, which I am finding is often the case these days, then it is not long after application that I find I experience relief and the sensitivity disappears.
The cream has quite a thin texture and is nothing like the richer and thicker cream I have used and indeed this is the major difference between the two products I have found.
I only apply a little at a time, massaging it into my face using circular movements with my finger tips and whereas I find the richer cream absorbs easily, this light cream takes longer to absorb. It has a greasier consistency and this is the only thing I don't really like about this cream as it takes longer to absorb and more massaging is required. When it is absorbed, it still feels a little greasy as if the cream is still slightly evident on the surface, but it does provide a good base for make-up.
What I do like is the 'fresh' feeling using this cream provides and I have experienced no sensitivity at all. If the skin on my face is feeling particularly sensitive one morning, it quickly feels much better after I have applied this moisturiser.
Overall, I am reasonably happy using Nivea Daily Essentials Light Moisturising Day Cream and it does keep my skin feeling moisturised all day long. It is only the following morning when I can feel that I need to use it again and so the 24 hour claim works for me and I have never had to apply this to my skin more than once a day. If I had not previously used the richer cream in this range, then I think I would have been perfectly happy to purchase this again, however, I do personally prefer the richer cream for my skin and so I will continue to purchase that one whenever I can. For those who want a lighter moisturiser however this could be perfect. Because I am experiencing more dryness of the skin on my face, then the richer product is better for me.
The low price when compared with high end products is also a big advantage here and thanks to Nivea it just goes to show that good results can be achieved on a budget.
Summary: A good value for money moisturiser for both normal and combination skin.
