I don’t like to look like I am wearing obvious make-up during the day. That doesn’t mean that I haven’t got any on just that I don’t want to look too made up. I always wear mascara and I always have some sort of base on my skin.
I don’t really like to wear a heavy foundation so I have really started to get into using BB creams at the minute. I have found a few good ones but one that really surprised me for all the wrong reasons was the N07 BB cream because it wasn’t as good as the rest of the N07 products that I have used.
I like a BB cream because as well having some colour in it to even out my skin tone and improve the look of it they also contain added benefits to improve it in the long term and this BB cream has spf and added vitamins and nutrients in it.
I was recommended that I go for the cream which was designed for normal to oily skin as I can have slightly oily areas on my skin. The cream is very thick and heavy for a BB cream and I found it a lot more difficult to blend than I have found with other BB creams. Usually they are just like a moisturiser and absorb into the skin easy and don’t need blending but this was more like foundation and needed blending.
I found that as well as being thick it was also really drying on my skin. I didn’t want it to exacerbate the oiliness in my skin but at the same time I didn’t want it to dry my skin out either and this dried out the area on the side of my nose making it flake and with the BB cream being so thick it really highlighted the flakes.
The colour also wasn’t what I wanted. It was a lot darker than I expected and unlike most BB creams which even the skin out but don’t look like you are wearing make-up I thought that this was very obvious on my skin. It wasn’t a BB cream I liked and I expected better from N07 especially when it cost £13.50 more than the other BB creams that I have.
When BB creams first hit the shelves I was intrigued about this new product. It took me a while before I tried one out. I saw Boots No 7 had released one and I fully trust the No 7 range, they always seem to get excellent reviews plus Boots hold one of the best loyalty schemes out there and often give out discount vouchers which can be redeemed against No 7 products. I can one of these vouchers and needed new make up so this grabbed my attention.
The BB cream is in a tube which is then boxed, I don't understand why it is boxed, it seems like excess packaging to me. There are a variety of shades and skin types and I asked a No 7 counter assistant to help me make sure I bought the correct one. She was very helpful and I felt confident in my purchase.
A small amount does go quite far, I don't wear make up every day so this has lasted very well.
I expected a BB cream to be somewhere between a tinted moisturiser and a foundation so that it would give my skin a flawless complexion and a more natural look compared to a heavy foundation which I don't like very much. The cream is quite thin and blends well into my skin, it feels light on my skin but does not give me a flawless look. It doesn't cover blemishes very well. I suffer from very dry patchy skin in the winter and this doesn't clump like a foundation would on dry spots and smoothes over well. The one major benefit of this product is that it contains an SPF of 15 so is an excellent way of making sure your skin is protected.
I prefer one step make up products but there is no way I could this alone. I follow a layer of the BB cream with Body Shop's face base and only then am I satisfied with the result. I think I was expecting a bit more from this product so I'm a little disappointed but I've found a way to make it work for me.
Lots of beauty brands are realising their own version of a 'BB Cream' aka Blemish Balm. No7 has introduced the BB cream as part of their Beautiful Skin range.
No7 have tailored their Beautiful Skin ranges to incorporate a BB Cream suitable for normal/oily, normal/dry and dry/very dry skin.
No7 BB Cream boasts a 3 in 1 formula. The cream is enriched with multivitamins and minerals to keep it hydrated and also a dash of rosehip oil to moisturise. This BB Cream contains spf15 and 5* UVA benefits to protect the skin. This BB Cream is also tinted and No7 offer fair or medium as colour choices. It is designed to give the skin a healthy and flawless appearance whilst minimising blemishes.
As with all No7 products, BB Cream is hypo-allergenic and therefore suitable for those with sensitive skin. It is recommended that you smooth this cream across your face with fingers or a cosmetic sponge.
Each BB Cream box is colour coded to reflect the proposed skin type that it is suitable for. The normal/dry skin BB Cream is presented in a black and baby pink box. The BB Cream is presented in tube form with a twist off lid and is initially sealed. Any product information required is on the box or tube. This BB Cream has a 24month shelf life.
~Price and Availability~
No7 BB Cream is available in Boots stores or from www.boots.com. It is priced at £12.95 for a 40ml tube.
I was intrigued when the BB craze hit the shops but didn't make a purchase of a BB cream until I noticed No7 had released a few. I trust the No7 brand in general and always wait for their £5 off voucher deal so rarely pay full price for my make up and skincare. I bought this as part of a 3 for 2 offer and then had a voucher off too so it worked out this item was free.
I decided to purchase the day cream and night cream as well as the cleansing balm in the Beautiful Skin range. I bought the dry/very dry version of the above products but couldn't for the life of me locate a dry/very dry version of the BB cream in any local Boots. I asked the lady and she said it had been discontinued though they still offer it on the website? Anyway, I have dry skin on my forehead and normalish skin around the rest of my face so felt the normal/dry version would be suitable. I have medium skin but do not like dark shades on my face so opted for fair.
~Beautiful Skin Let Down~
I feel No7 are making too many claims with this product as I found this product not to be up to scratch. The packaging is good and looks quite stylish. Using the product is simple. I fully cleanse and moisturise my face daily and this is a must for me. I assumed I could apply this to a simply clean face but found it to be very 'foundation' like - ie I had to thoroughly moisturise and get rid of any hint of dryness before this could be properly applied.
The BB Cream has a medium consistency and does look a lot darker that you would expect it to be. I can't imagine how dark the medium version would be! It has a cosmetic like scent - nothing too strong or out of character for this type of product. The cream spreads well across my skin and doesn't drag. It is fairly easy to blend in but it is very clear that I am wearing something coloured on my face - it doesn't give a 'bared faced' appearance as promised.
I didn't like the way this cream sat on my skin. It felt quite heavy and I was fully aware that I was wearing it. It looked too much like foundation on my skin and anytime I have worn this, my skin felt a little clogged - I personally prefer my skin to be able to breathe. Despite moisturising beforehand, this BB Cream caused the slightest dry areas to show up and look awful. Applying this to my forehead was a no go - even when I used plenty of moisturiser.
So - it highlights dry areas, looks too much like a foundation and doesn't give a fresh faced appearance. It is gentle on the skin and the colour lasts well without going patchy or icky in warm weather. The BB Cream does offer decent coverage and covers imperfections. The SPF is minimal but ok for light sun exposure but not to be relied upon for scorching weather.
I just simply didn't get on with this BB Cream. Only a small amount is required to fully cover the face so a 40ml tube will last well. I just don't like the way it looks or feels on my skin even after fully cleansing. I can remove it easily with some cleanser or a cosmetic wipe.
I hate wastage but I think this one will be heading to a friends or relatives home as I don't like using it.
2 stars overall.
