Good value moisturiser, doesn't make your skin greasy

My skin if it isn't controlled with a good routine is dreadful I still suffer from the odd break out which is not a good look in your early thirties. When I was pregnant I had acne (mmm nice) all over my neck (who said pregnancy makes you glow lol) and chin. Fed up of it getting worse with what I was using I decided to use this moisturiser and the cleanser and toner that went with it. The only reason was the blurb on the bottle sounded just what I was after and it was 3 for the price of 2. Well I can now say it will take a long time for me to change from my current routine. My skin looks fabulous. Since I gave birth and the hormones died down I haven't had a breakout. After you apply the moisturiser you skin feels really smooth and for me that feeling lasts all day. You don't need a huge amount either a little does go a long way. I have dramatically decreased the amount of loose powder needed in the day to stop my face looking like an oil slick too, so it's saving me money!! My current bottle of moisturiser has lasted nearly 4 months using it day and night. I am going to try the night moisturiser soon though - just to add to my collection of bottles in the cabinet. What I also like is it is light enough to use under your eyes without feeling like you've smeared something heavy like vaseline on them. The pump action bottle is less messy than the conventional tube or ordinary bottle too. Although it always leaves that dry gunky bit at the end that you have to pick out. All in all I love it - it's great value for money.

      Avoid

I bought this many moons ago with one of my £5 off No7 vouchers, I must have had it six months now and it's hardly been used! It isn't that its a bad moisturiser, it just doesn't seem to work for me anymore. It costs £9.30 currently for a 100ml bottle. I use the Intelligent Balance foundation and that realy does seem to be intelligent in knowing which bits of my skin need moisture, which need less oil etc. This sadly doesn't. I bought it as it is suitable for combination and oily skin, mine is very combination; I have dry patches on my forehead but a shiny nose so hoped this would help both. "Balancing act, take a fresh look at moisturising with this clever oil free fluid, created to balance combination skin without blocking pores" Sounds perfect...... I applied this as instructed after cleansing and toning (with No7 products of course) It has a nice pump top which you press a few times to get a decent blob out. The moisturiser is a very pale green colour, this can be seen through the pearlescent bottle. To say it's oil free it does feel very greasy on first touch! I carry on and dab a dot on my cheeks, nose, chin and forehead and massage in "circles" as told. It feels nice on my dry bits but just sits on top of my skin on my more oily parts of skin, just like most moisturisers tend to do with me. So far, not impressed. As this is a day fluid I expect most women will want to apply make-up over the top and this really isn't possible. The fluid makes my already oily bits so shiny that foundation almost slips off in about 10 minutes! I had to start again, take my make-up off and the moisturiser off and just apply make-up alone. I decided i'd see how it worked on a night instead, after all night creams are just more concentrated than day creams so it wouldn't do me any harm! Of course it didn't matter that my skin was so shiny in bed so I forgot about it and went to sleep. In the morning I woke up and my dry bits were improved but my oily bits were worse. My hair was as really greasy from the fact this product just sat on my skin and didn't sink in!! So overall a good moisturiser for dry skin but then again most you can buy for a quarter of the price of this work well on dry skin! This doesn't live up to its promises and is an expensive waste of money. It pains me to say that as I a big fan on No7 stuff!! A tub of simple Nivea does the same job for about £1.50.

A great moisturiser for combination/oily skin that mattifies and moisturises

Over the last year I have been trying out some of the Boots No7 products as a replacement for my usual more expensive Clarins skincare products. I decided recently that I would look for a moisturiser from their range and I opted for this the Intelligent Balance Day Fluid. The moisturiser is for oily/combination skin. It is said to moisturise, mattify and balance your skin. It is an oil-free fluid which balances combination skin, hydrating skin for 12 hours whilst also absorbing excess oil without blocking your pores. As my skin is combination (I have dry patches but also oily in places with spots at times) I thought this sounded exactly what I needed. The moisturiser sells in most Boots stores and online at Boots.com. It retails for £9.25 for a 100ml bottle. Although to some people this might seem expensive for a good moisturiser it is actually quite reasonable and compared to my Clarins moisturisers which can be 2 or 3 times the price is almost a bargain. The moisturiser comes in a compact 100ml bottle with a removable cap and a pump dispenser. The bottle is a shimmery green colour and is slightly opaque so you can see how much cream is left in the bottle. The fluid or cream itself is a pale green colour and is of moderate consistency it is more of a cream than a fluid as it is described. It says it is fragrance-free but it does have a slight smell to it. Its quite hard to describe but is quite faint and I think just comes from the ingredients used to make the fluid. You only need a little bit as it goes quite far and is easy to apply to your face and neck. Boots advise giving yourself a little facial and massaging it in circles over your face and neck. I find the lotion absorbs quickly into my skin and feels light on my skin and not greasy like some moisturisers can be. My skin feels soft and looks fresh. My skin does feel soft and moisturised all day. The mattifying properties seem to work as my skin does not look greasy at all and it has a nice feeling on my skin. I really like this moisturiser, it leaves my skin feeling soft and helps stop it looking greasy. I haven't had as many spots since using this regularly but I don't know if that is due to the moisturiser or because I have been making a point of taking greater care of my skin. On the downside the fluid is quite light so if your skin feels really dry then I don't think this will moisturise as well. I think if my skin went through a dry phase which sometimes it does I would switch back to using a more creamy moisturiser to improve the moisture in my skin. Also it doesn't have suncream in it, my usual Clarins moisturiser has a built in sunscreen so you can protect your skin from damage from the sun. However despite that it's a great little moisturiser that leaves my skin looking great and is great value for money. When it runs out I will be buying it again.

the first face cream i actually like using

Even though I am nearly 27 (sob) I still suffer from breakouts of spots and can have greasy patched on my face, sounds attractive doesn't it? :-D A few months ago I started using Boots No7 repair and protect serum which I love as it leaves my skin feeling really soft. So when my normal moisturiser ran out I decided to replace it with something else from the No7 range. Originally I was planning on getting the repair and protect moisturiser cream but it is nearly £20 which I think is a lot for a face cream, especially as I am trying to save. Next to it on the shelf was No7 Intelligent Balance Day Fluid for oily/combination skin. The bottle said that as well as moisturising your skin it helps to 'mattify' (their word not mine!) and balance the skin. It claimed to absorb excess oil and leave your skin shine free. It is also Hypo-allergenic and Fragrance free. This sounded perfect and at £9.25 for the 100ml bottle it was a reasonable price too. The bottle has a pump action dispenser so the cream is easy to get out and it is a very pale iridescent green colour. It stands about 4 inches tall. The front has a very simply No7 written in gold with Intelligent Balance Day Fluid written below. On the back it says 'Take a fresh look at moisturising with this clever oil-free fluid, created to balance combination skin without blocking pores. The ultra-light gel-cream hydrates for 12 hours and absorbs excess oil to leave your skin soft, shine free and healthy looking. ' As this is called a fluid I was expecting it to be quite runny as I dispensed some onto my finger tips. However it appeared to be quite thick and stayed in a blob on my finger without running off. The cream is also a pale green colour. It doesn't really smell of anything, and it certainly doesn't smell chemically. If anything I would say it smelt quite fresh and a bit like cucumber, but I could just be imagining that because of the colour! Even though it looks quite thick on my hand when I put it on my face it smoothes out really easily and I only need to use a small amount to do my face and neck. The cream feels really light and it absorbs very quickly. I must say I was impressed with the results. Previously I have never liked wearing moisturiser on my face as they leave me feeling greasy and they feel heavy on my skin like it is blocking all my pores. Not with this cream though! It feels so light that I forget I have put it on, yet my skin still feels moisturised all day. It hasn't made me break out in any more spots either so it isn't clogging my pores. But what about the claim that it 'mattifies' the skin, well I think it's true! Don't get me wrong it doesn't make you skin completely matt like using foundation/power but it does remove/help the greasy areas of my face. Normally if I put moisturiser on my face I always have to use a power so I don't look like I've dipped my head in a deep fat fryer! With this I feel more than happy just to put this on without any make up and my skin looks really good. This is not an anti wrinkle cream so if that is what you need then this is not for you. However if you are just looking for a normal moisturiser that will also help with oily patches then this is brilliant. The first face cream I have ever enjoyed using, I love it!
