oilatum to the rescue!

Advantages: Helps soothe my itchiness and dry skin.
Disadvantages: Expensive if you can't get it prescribed!
This past year I have great trouble with my skin. I have always had eczema but never to the extent of extreme itchiness. I am currently in the process of getting an allergy test from my local hospital because it seems it could possibly be an allergy not eczema causing this itching. Meanwhile, doctors have given me a countless number of creams, ointments, antihistamine tablets, all of which don't seem to give great affect.
My last visit ended with usual prescribed steroid creams, but this time I got prescribed Oilatum Gel to use in the shower. At first I was sceptical that it would make any difference, but I was pleasantly surprised. The gel has a really nice cooling affect in the shower, which calms my skin down and helps stop the itchiness, as well as helping soothe my eczema.
It is free from harsh chemicals and fragrances that is obviously a lot better for your skin than other shower gels. It is a clear gel liquid and doesn't have a particular distinct smell, really being quite mild.
After coming out the shower as well my skin is not left feeling dry and itchy as per usual. My skin feels almost moisturised as well, which is a task that usually seems impossible which my skin so dry irritated! It sinks right into your skin which is a lot more appealing compared to other much more oiler products that stays on the surface and feels grimey.
As I am in full-time education I get this product prescribed free at my local doctors, but I have noticed they are sold at extremely high prices at boots at £9.49 for 150g. I use so much of it at once I use the bottle up in around 2-3 weeks, so it is really expensive over a long period of time. If you are an eczema sufferer it is obivously cheaper trying to get it prescribed from your doctor at £7.50 (or however much it costs now for a prescription!).
It hasn't made a huge load of difference to my skin, I still suffer from a lot of itchiness. But it does calm my skin down and makes it feel less dry. It certainly helps me cope with my skin, and I recommend it to anyone with similar skin problems. Eczema is not something you can simply get rid of, it takes a long while to overcome it, but I think this product makes it easier.
Summary: Excellent product to moisturise and soothe dry/itchy skin. Especially suitable for eczema sufferers!
