“ Brand: Olay / Type: Cleanser / Subcategory: Mousse / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types / What it does: Cleanses, „
I got this Olay Clarify and Cleanse Pore Refining Mousse Cleanser as a gift last Christmas and here are my views on it:
- This mousse cleanser distributed its contents using a (fully functional and fairly straightforward to use) "whipped cream style" dispenser, and came out as soft, light white foam, which I found was much easier to apply than if it was a gel or a cream (and because of this it was not a greasy product). After many uses of this product, I found that it did not irritate my skin unlike other skin care products (some of them more expensive) I had tried before. After use, my skin felt softer, smoother and altogether less greasy, which I was very pleased with.
- The size of the can I got (and what I believe is the normal retail size) is around, I would say, half the size of a regular hair spray/ hair mousse/ whipped cream aerosol can. This lasted me, after quite regular use (daily) for around one to two months. This is not THAT long, I know, but for its price and its brand I found it very good value
- This is packaged stylishly with a blue, purple and white metal can exterior and an easily removable lilac cap. Because of its size and weight, it is easy to slip in your hand bag whilst travelling or merely freshening up on the go with hardly and hassle
- Later on, I stumbled upon this product in the pound store and was quite impressed; after all this product is from Olay, one of the biggest skin care retailers around. I believe it to be very cheaply price for its brand and functionality.
In conclusion, I believe this to be a fairly good facial cleanser in terms of quality; but the great value is what encouraged me to keep buying this product and I have continued to purchase this with pleasing effects. This has no major faults as such, but as I do not consider it as an AMAZING product, I will give it 4 stars.
Every Christmas since turning into a teenager my mam has always made me a special bag as one of my presents. This gift bag will be jam packed full of different items including perfume, soaps, shower gels, shampoo, conditioners and many more beauty items. This year I received an Olay pore refining mousse cleanser and immediately I noticed that I had never seen this product in the shops before. Since my mam is a big fan of the pound shop I later found out this was indeed from there.
The cleanser comes in an aerosol type can that is very attractive with its different colour purples and pink. The top of the can contains a purple pull off lid which reveals a press down pump action dispenser. The cleanser can advises that this product will provide a deep cleansing experience without the harshness of a scrub. The velvety foam deeply cleans and gently exfoliates to minimise the appearance of pores and give the impression of cleaner and softer skin.
This product comes out very quickly so just a small amount is needed to wash the face. As the product is being dispensed it works exactly like a hair mousse and grows after being released hence a lot of waste. Once the foam is ready you simply wash your face with it along with water. The exfoliators are very fine and they cause no discomfort or irritation for sensitive skin at all in fact you can barely feel them. When rinsing the product it comes off very quickly with minimum effort and the skin feels very refreshed and clean. This cleanser provides a fantastic base for moisturiser too as the skin feel very smooth.
This cleanser removes most make up however I have sometimes had a few traces left if I have worn particularly heavy eyeliner therefore resulting in me having to go over my eyes with a wipe. This isn't enough to put me off this product though as it works very well and lasts for ages and let's be fair for such a good item you can't complain at the price either.
Overall I am very happy with this cleanser and I will certainly use it again. I would definitely recommend this for any skin type. It's different than a usual cleanser and it really does what it says.
When it comes to things I have to use on my face - especially face washes and cleansers - I am VERY careful about which products I use. Most of the face washes and similar products Ive used in the past havent worked very well and/or made my skin break out in a rash - which when its on your face which everyone can see is not a good thing. This product was originally bought for my little brother who was having problems with spots but he rarely used it so he ended up giving it to me to try out a few weeks back, the product in question is this 'Olay Pore Refining Mousse Cleanser' which I have to admit I was very apprehensive about trying but as I coldnt afford any new face wash at the time I decided to give it a pop.
Price: No more than £2
Stockists: Chemists, Supermarkets, Poundland & 99p Store.
Other Info: Foam cleanser with small exfoliating beads contained in the foam for gentle exfoliation whilst cleaning your skin and minimising your pores. Promises to give a deep cleanse without being harsh on your skin.
This cleanser comes in a purple and white metallic can that has a push down nozzle at the top. All the information you could need is written on the back of the can: ingredients, directions for use etc so you should be able to find everything you need to know should you have any questions. To release the mousse you simply press down the nozzle and the mousse should come out - do shake the can first though as Ive found you get better results that way as this is kind of like shaving foam.
You DONT need too much mousse every time you use this as less is definitely more. A small squirt goes a really long way so careful how hard you push the nozzle down as this does come out quite quickly. The mousse itself is a plain white in colour and I cant see any of the beads in the mousse before I apply and it doesnt have much of a scent too it - which is perfect for me as I think its often the perfume in face washes that annoy my skin. So get a dollop of this on your hand and begin to rub into the skin all over your face and neck - I usually use this while Im in the shower as I find it works best when I do.
While your rubbing this in you will start to feel the little exfoliating beads gently scrubbing the skin and this feels pleasant and feels like your getting a really deep cleanse rather than it being harsh or annoying then you simple wash the excess off with warm water and then pat dry with a towel. I definitely recommend applying a moisturiser after using this as it will enhance the effects - Ive found it works best that way anyway. After Ive used this my skin always feels proper clean and much smoother so I guess this deifnitely does the job - the job I wanted to use it for anyway.
Ive been using this on and off now for about 3 weeks and even though it does certainly clean and smooth my skin Im not 100% sure whether it has made my pores any smaller. To be fair I dont have really big pores anyway or suffer from spots very much so I guess the results might not be as effective on my skin type but for the cleansing and exfoliating purposes this works wonders for my skin and I highly recommend it - a VERY cheap, foaming cleanser that actually works.
Thanks For Reading.

==Olay Pour Refining Mousse Cleanser==
The main draw for me purchasing this product was the fact that it was priced at a mere £1 and was was in need of a new cleanser too having used up my previous one that very same day. I purchased it from Poundland and to be honest haven't seen it for sale anywhere else. However I have since looked on line and it seems that very few places apart from eBay are actually selling it. There was one store which had it up for £2.50 pence with the RRP of £6.99 pence! So I guess in that respect I was able to get a bargain.
The bottle that this product comes in is a pressurised can and this allows the product to be squirted out as a mousse. This seems to work rather well and also makes the products 150 ml last for a good amount of time. The directions for use are pretty simple in the fact that the can will need a good shake before squirting the product out. Then apply a small amount of the mousse to a damp face and begin to rub it in in small circular motions.
The mousse is described on the front of the can as"rich expanding foam with micro-crystals. It deeply cleanses for comfortably clean refined skin".
Sure enough one tiny squirt of the mousse does expand enough to cover the face thickly with the product. The micro-crystals inside are ever so tiny compared with the exfoliators that I am used to using and they feel at first that they are not doing enough to remove any traces of dead skin. The smell of the product was very mild but it was a floral, sweet smell which is really rather applying as far as beauty products go.
I didn't feel any sensitiveness whilst using this product and generally throughout using it is was rather enjoyable. I did stay away from my eyes as is recommended on the can which was a shame as my last cleanser was able to remove eye make up too. I found the mousse easy to rice off and my face was left feeling pretty clean and smooth.
After using this mousse for the first time, I did find that I had not properly washed away all the micro-crystals as when applying my face moisturiser I could still feel tin little lumps all over my face. This began to irritate and therefore I had to go back into the bathroom and make sure I had rinsed my face and double rinsed my face. All other uses of the mousse have been fine as I have made sure to rinse really well as this is obviously needed.
The general look of my skin after using this particular product was okay although I wouldn't say there was any major changes in the way my pores looked or skin generally felt. I don't think the micro-crystals are as good as usual exfoliators as they seemed to be too small and there seemed to be too little of them. My face did need a really good moisturise after using this cleanser product as it did leave the skin feeling tight and a little bit dry. However it was soft and clean.
I think overall this product is not bad for the price I paid and seem to do a relatively okay job,. I can't say however that it has been one of my favourite cleansers to use and I probably wouldn't go out searching for it to buy it again. So really for that reason I feel that a reasonable score of 3 stars out of 5 is in order and a mild recommendation but only if it can be bought for £1 or less.
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you
I've recently gone a bit mad with my skin care routine which has resulted in me buying various face washes and creams to try.
What attracted me to this was the fact that it was a "mousse" cleanser, something that I hadn't tried before.
I purchased this for £2.99 from TJ Hughes which I thought was a good price for a decent brand of skincare.
The mousse comes in a 156ml metal can which is fairly attractive. When pressed, the dispenser at the top releases the mousse. The first thing I noticed was that the mousse was really thick and creamy so I was looking forward to using it. I wet my hands as the directions advised and applied the product to my face.
The mousse contains micro-crystals which you can really feel within the product to provide a degree of exfoliation. I didn't find them uncomfortable on the skin but I would advise against using it on the sensitive eye area as the crystals felt a little scratchy. The product has a nice scent, which I find very refreshing and clean-smelling.
When I rinsed the product away with clean water, I was impressed with how clean my skin felt. After continued use, my skin definitely looks a lot clearer and brighter than it did.
I do have very sensitive skin and as a result, I am limited to what I can use but I have had no problems with this product so far.
Every day I wash my face with some sort of facial wash. I've done it for years and it's simply cos I suffer with spots and stuff like that. My skin is very temperamental and I have a t-zone that is so greasy!
I love Olay products so when I saw this in my local Poundland store at of course the price of a pound (Since purchasing this I have seen this in Wilkinsons and T.J Hughes costing £1.99 a can but if you can't find it in the above mentioned stores then it is available online to buy and cheaply of course!).
150g purple coloured cylinder shaped can with a lilac coloured push button dispenser to the top of it and over that a clear matching lids pulls on and off with ease. On the front of the can I'm told it is 'New' Olay Pore Refining Mousse Cleanser 'Rich expanding foam with gentle micro- crystals deeply cleanses for comfortably clear refined skin' and the size (as I have stated already) is shown at the bottom of the can. Other information given on the back of the can includes being told a bit about the product and directions for using it are given, warnings and ingredients are listed as are contact details for Procter & Gamble (the manufacturer of the product). Nice quality can this is, easy to use and understand and in my opinion very in keeping with the usual style of Olay products too.
A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Can:
With Olay Pore Refining Mousse, you can experience deep cleansing without the harshness. The velvety foam deeply cleans and gently exfoliates to minimize pore appearance to leave your skin comfortably refined and visibly clear. Experience the soft, deep clean from Olay.
Directions For Use:
Wet hands, Shake can well before each use. Hold can upright. Fully depress applicator for proper dispensing. Dispense desired amount into hand.
Me Using It:
Well all I do to use this is simply follow the instructions given on the back of the can (as I've just told you lol). I wet my face well and then dispense a very small amount of the rich white foam. Alot comes out per push so I simply press really quickly and then some comes out and then it triples in size in front of my eyes of course as it is a mousse of course.
It has a lovely fresh sort of floral smell to it that is very natural smelling but none distinctive and then gently I massage it over my face.
As I apply it I can feel the micro-crystals in this gently buffing up my skin. None abrasive though no matter how hard I scrub my face and it really doesn't hurt or agitate my skin in any way shape or form and then I simply rinse it off.
I have been washing my face with this for the last few weeks and think this is truly marvelous. I find it doesn't remove make-up at all well (unless it's very light of course) but then to be fair to this product it isn't billed to as it's simply to tighten and refine pores. That it does exceedingly well!
Not only once rinsed off do you feel that skin can 'breath' it really does appear fresh and glowing. My face feels incredibly comfortable and it's smooth to the touch and simple feels cleansed. All round I enjoy using this!
Pores do close after using this considerably and I have noticed with prolonged use of this product that I don't have so many open and/or congested looking pores and spots and blackheads are not appearing anywhere as much as they used to!
This to me is suitable for any person to use no matter if they're male of female (the smell doesn't stick about anyway above five minutes after using it) and really is suitable for sensitive skin types as such as myself that want a gentle but slightly exfoliating face wash to use on a daily basis. None greasy, none skin drying out I rate this very highly indeed and it's a new product so I'm sure it will become more readily available at some point but at a bigger price tag than I was lucky enough to buy it for!
Brilliant again Olay and thank-you!
