“ Brand: Olay / Type: Cleanser / Subcategory: Toner / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types / What it does: Cleanses, Refreshes / Product line: Olay Gentle Cleansers „
I am a big fan of Olay products and one of my favourite ones is their refreshing gently toner which comes in a lovely opaque plastic bottle - you can see the refreshing blue colour inside the bottle and it stands out on the shelf. I pay £2.99 for one 200ml bottle of this gorgeous toner and I use it regularly, day and night as I find it really does freshen my skin and makes it feel soft and clean.
I didn't use to use a facial toner until about five years ago - I didn't see the point, to be honest. However, once I looked into it I found that I had actually been missing a vital part of my skin care regime. I now just couldn't do without toning my skin after I have cleansed it to remove all traces of daily make up, dirt and grime.
This toner is simple and easy to use and works like a dream. I simply pour it onto a clean cotton bud and gently wipe it all over my face and neck, paying particular attention to the sides of my nose, my forehead and my chin (my T zone) and I am always amazed that no matter how well I think my skin has been cleaned of dirt and impurities beforehand, this toner never fails to remove the very last traces of all dirt and grime. Never use it around the eye area though ladies as this is the most sensitive part of the face and it is never a great idea to apply a toner to this area, as the skin around the yes is so thin in comparison to the rest of the skin on the face.
It has a very gentle, almost undetectable aroma. It is low in alcohol and suitable for even the most sensitive of skins. I have definitely noticed a big difference to the size of my pores since I have stated to use this facial toner. They do look noticeably smaller and tighter in my opinion, and that can't be a bad thing.
After having used this toner, my face always feel refreshed and wonderfully toned, yet not tight. I hate that tight feeling that you can sometimes get from using this type of product. However, this Olay toner does not dehydrate my skin at all and it leaves it feeling moist and completely rejuvenated.
I cannot compliment this toner enough. It's not too expensive. A bottle will last me for weeks and weeks, despite using it on a twice daily basis and I cannot imagine not using it. I'd be lost without it.

I only bought this toner because I spotted it on offer at the great price of just £1.49 in Morrisons. I've never really considered Olay for anything other than moisturisers and perhaps wipes before because it just doesn't seem like a young person's brand, but this was a bargain so I thought I'd give it a go. I've just looked on the Boots website and the price on there is £3.56 for the same 200ml bottle.
The bottle is clear so you can see the blue liquid inside which means you can always see when it's going to run out. It has a flip top lid which makes it easy to open, and it shuts nice and tightly too. The hole in the lid is quite small which means it's easy to get out the right amount instead of ending up with far too much on your cotton wool.
I just squeeze the bottle a little to get out a small amount of the toner onto a cotton wool pad, which I then wipe across my skin. It's a very watery liquid, not greasy or denser like some toners, and it has a fresh scent which is like cucumber but also a bit fruity as well. It feels very cool and refreshing as I wipe it across my skin and it does feel like it's removing the last traces of dirt.
As usual with toners you can see how well it's worked by looking at how mucky the cotton pad is afterwards, and I can see that this has removed a lot of dirt from my skin as the pad does look very mucky after use. I only need to use it once as when I have used it a second time the pad has come away completely clean.
My skin does feel very fresh and clean after using it and I feel like my pores are more refined and kind of tightened. Because it's alcohol free it doesn't dry my skin out at all or leave it feeling tight. My skin feels really smooth and my moisturiser goes on really easily and smoothly and absorbs really well after using this first.
Before I started using a facial toner, I was a bit confused about what it would do for my skin, and why I needed it in my routine. Well, let me start by saying a toner is used to balance your skin. It a watery substance that removed missed dirt and excess makeup to prepare it for treatment. It is made up of water and skin soothers like Aloe Vera, cucumber and other plant oils to clear out the skin. It also draws moisture to the skin.
I don't believe that it necessary for the majority of people. However, if you are like me and you have oily skin, which leads to spots and you wear lots of make-up to cover up the spots, which means you need extra care removing all your make-up, then a toner would be a great product for you. I use Olay whenever I can as I love the range and find their quality is top notch. Yes, you may have to dig a little deeper in your wallet for it. However, you only live once, and the face is really the only part of my body I show in public so I'd like to take care of it .
Just a note for any other Muslim Dooyooers, this product is alcohol-free so it's completely halal for use whoohoo! Another benefit of alcohol-free is that it doesn't cause any harsh chemicals to be allowed into the skin.
Before using this product, wash the face completely using a facial sauna, any cleansers, and then simply get a bit of cotton wool, pour the bottle over it for two seconds and lift the bottle back up. This is just like what you do with nail polish remover, except the top on nail polish remover is big and this one is fairly small.
You will notice it is very, very watery, so you may wish to be careful. I spilled this on my nightgown once, but it clears off no problem. The liquid is blue..... just thought I'd let you know.
What you do is simply wipe this all over your face. Above the eye area because it stings like mad if you get it in your eye. I would pay post attention to the little dent on your chin, around the nose areas and if you regularly get spots in any areas, give it a good wipe there. But basically do your whole face. I wouldn't bother doing the neck, because it's £3.50 a bottle and I'm not going to waste it on my neck, I don't show it anyway.
You may feel your skin is a bit tight after this, but this means you've used to much. There's no need to soak your skin in it.
The results are hard to see, but you can really feel your skin is cleaner after use. Use some moisturiser afterwards and your skin is completely fresh and beautiful, you go girl! Or men, I mean, I don't see why men wouldn't use it, just maybe you shouldn't tell your friends. That is all.
Olay Gentle Cleansers Refreshing Toner is a great for your skin and I use this daily. I always cleanse, tone and moisturise everyday because I want my skin free from spots and grease. Everyone at least once in life suffers from spots. I usually get spots a lot no matter how much I look after my skin but if I do neglect it then it becomes worse for instance if I fall asleep with my make up on then dirt from the make up will soak in my skin overnight and then my pores get clogged. The best thing about toner is it really tightens pores and removes the dirt.
After you cleanse and tone it becomes free from impurities. This toner really is one of the best Olay have made there are many ranges of skin care products that Olay make for your skin. These all give your skin life and help your appearance become more radiant. As a beauty therapist I have experience in working with different toners and this is a good one.
Your Beauty routine:
In the morning grab the bottle of daily Olay cleanser and squeeze a small amount onto a damp cotton pad. Next massage the cream in circular motions along the skin on the face with the cotton pad. This will remove the old make up or any dirt along the way.
Damp cotton pad again and get your gentle refreshing toner and pour a small amount onto the damp cotton pad. Then slowly go over all your face except the eye area and in circular motions, remove the grease the cleanser left behind till your face feels free of cleanser.
After your face dries for a few minutes from your toner, grab a facial moisturiser and dab small dots of it on the cheeks, head and neck. This will put back essential moisture and leave you feeling fresh and clean.
The Olay toner is a gentle toner for your skin is low alcohol and that's perfect for your skin a product containing too much can irritate skin. It also contains witch hazel and witch hazel is very good for healing the skin. If you have sensitive skin only use a very small amount of the toner on the damp cotton pad. The price of this toner in your local supermarket is £2.99 and the cleanser is usually £2.50. The toner can be bought online at chemist sites. The bottle has a blue cap and is easy to open and the bottle contains 200ml of the gentle toner which will last a while, if you are using it everyday you do not need too much off the product and that way you are saving it and it will last a lot longer. If you over use, it will dry out the skin and it will end up costing you more to replace each time.
Give it a try and see what you think!
4 stars from me.
I had this as part of a gift set and had never used a toner before (shock horror!) I usually just use a facial wash and then moisturise, but thought I'd add this into my daily routine.
It comes in a white see through bottle with a blue liquid inside. The packaging is simple and clean looking-typical of the Olay range. It is 150 ml and states that it is dermatologically tested and is for normal/ dry/ combination skin. It is also alcohol free.
The refreshing toner is mild on skin and for everyday cleansing and the directions for use are " apply with cotton wool, sweep over face and neck, use morning and night."
The liquid itself has a lovely fragrance, it is made with cucumber and aloe and the smell is subtle but very fresh. There is a slight underlaying smell of witch hazel when you smell really closely but the toner doesn't list this as an ingredient so it must just be a mix of the different cleansing ingredients.
You are supposed to give the bottle a good shake before using to mix up the liquid. It soaks quickly and easily into the cotton wool and just a little drop is all that is needed. As you wipe the toner onto your face it feels lovely and soothing. It wipes easily and you can see the remains of make up on the cotton wool, which does make you want to use it again!
Your skin feels damp after applying this but the moisture soon dries into the skin within about 30 seconds.
Avoid the eye area when using and after applying my skin felt really tight and fresh, almost as if i'd been using a face mask. Once i'd applied cream my skin felt much softer.
Within the first few days of using the toner I did have a minor breakout of spots but they soon cleared up and I haven't had any since. I can only assume that it was just getting rid of any bad stuff in my pores that my usual wash had missed.
Since using this toner I have been very pleased with my skin care, my skin feels cleaner and fresher than before and I have continued to use it day and night. I would gladly recommend this to anyone as part of a skin care routine.
One of my all time brands of beauty products is Olay. I find it simple, effective, easy to use and economical and really most of the products I have used have been a little bit special really and I have adored the quality of them on the whole.
I cleanse my face most days and feel that I need a toner to simply remove all traces of it but not only that I like to refresh my face with the stuff throughout the day (if I'm not wearing make up) and whenever I wash my face in the shower, bath or wherever my face can feel a little tightened and I liked to relax my skin and calm it back down!
that is what brought me on to the purchase of this product when I spotted it in Boots priced at £2.99 and I thought it seemed good value for money and worth a go!
150ml frosted white plastic bottle with a slight curve to it's middle for ease of handling and it has a turquoise flip-top lid situated to the top of it. On the front of the bottle there is a white label and on that I'm told that it is Olay Gentle Cleansers Refreshing Toner 'Mild everyday cleansing' and that it is dermatologically tested and that it is suitable for normal/dry/combination skins. On the back of the bottle other information given includes being told a bit about the product, directions for use are given, ingredients are listed, size is stated and contact details for Procter & Gamble are given. Nice enough bottle, easy to use and it's all informative enough of course!
A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Bottle:
Olay's refreshing toner blended to be mild on the skin for everyday cleansing. It's gentle, alcohol free formula contains extracts of cucumber and aloe.
Directions For Use;
Apply toner to cotton wool and sweep across the face and neck. Use morning and night. Follow with an Olay moisturiser.
Well all this is, is a light turquoise runny like water to look at really although coloured lol. It has a fresh and clean unisex smell that is hard to explain but to me it's like a 'sea fresh' fragrance and very pleasant it is and it's saturates things with a turquoise colour.
Simple to use, you simply squeeze some out onto some cotton wool and use after cleanser or on rather a clean face. This isn't a make up remover but it does pick up everyday grease and grime with ease I find.
It isn't oily but it does sweep over the face with ease, it is soothing and very cooling indeed, doesn't make open pores, spots or blackheads tingle and all round it is lovely to use and leaves the face feeling really soft and very clean and when dried in doesn't leave any residue on the skin and that is it, job is done.
This in my opinion is a very lovely skin toner. It's great in the summer to wipe over the face for a quick freshen up and great at removing cleansers too thus helping to keep pores unblocked. I certainly will buy this time and time again and at £2.99 a bottle I think it's brill!
Available at all good supermarkets and chemists etc.
