I tried Gentle Wet Cleansing Wipes from the Olay range as these were being sold in Wilkinson’s for only 99p. Olay is usually a brand I like and as these were so inexpensive I decided to try just one pack.
They are packed similar to every other sort of facial cleansing wipe I have used. The pack was plastic, in an attractive bright blue hue with peel back strip placed on the top which could be resealed again after use. The seal was nice and sticky so this ensured the wipes wouldn’t dry out and become ineffectual.
The pack contained 25 good sized thick wipes which were nice and moist and suitable for removing make up, including eye make up and waterproof mascara. As I like to wear mascara that is waterproof, these seemed ideal for me.
They were too heavily perfumed for my liking and I also found that they irritated the bottom lashes near to both of my eyes. These have supposedly been dermatologically tested so I have no idea why this should have happened. I can also use other Olay products without this happening but these particular wipes did not suit my eyes for some reason.
They did remove all of my make up and only one cloth was needed for both eyes and full face. The wipes felt very moist but were impregnated with too strong an aroma.
The wipes are supposedly mild yet effective but I felt these wipes were a little bit too strong for my complexion, particularly around the delicate eye area. My lashes felt sore and itchy and I used them on a few occasions and found that this wasn’t an isolated incident, this happened every time I used these wipes.
I personally can’t recommend these wipes due to how they affected me, but they did remove make up very quickly and effectively without having to scrub too hard or having to use more than one wipe.
I can never have enough face wipes, I use them every morning and every night. I generally buy whatever is on offer or whatever takes my fancy when shopping. I've recently been using these Olay gentle cleansing wipes.
The wipes come in a pale blue packet with a peel back sticky tab to keep the wipes fresh and moist. This peel back tab works well on this packaging, I've found no matter how many times I open and close the tab it will always stick back down and keep the wipes nice and fresh.
The wipes themselves are the same generic white colour as all other face wipes I've come across. They are around the same size as all other face wipes but feel slightly thicker than other wipes. The wipes have a textured type feeling to them with lots of raised bumps so that the wipes do give a good clean when used.
There isn't any kind of aroma to the wipes, if anything, it's more of a clean fresh scent, so men and women alike could use these. The wipes are quite moist to touch, I think this is due to the thickness of them as they are thicker than normal face wipes. Although there are little raised bumps on the wipes, they don't feel harsh when being used.
I use these wipes to wipe my face every morning and they do leave my face feeling clean and fresh before having a chance to have a proper wash. I also use these at night to remove any make up, if I'm wearing any. I've found the wipes remove make up well, particularly round my eyes as we all know how hard it can sometimes be when removing mascara. Even if I'm wearing waterproof mascara it can remove this just as well as non-waterproof mascara. The thickness of these wipes means that you can get a good clean without the wipes thinning or breaking up. After removing make up the Olay wipes leave skin feeling soft and smooth.
A pack of these wipes retail at around £2 but can often be found on offer from less. They are available to buy from most places that sell face wipes such as Boots, Superdrug and normal supermarkets.
I'd definitely recommend these Olay gentle cleansing wipes, they are thicker than other brands, the packaging keeps the wipes moist, and they clean make up off my face well.
I'm a huge fan of facial wipes and whilst I have a few favourite brands I tend to purchase whatever is on offer. For Christmas last year I was delighted to receive a gorgeous beauty hamper from my sister and amongst all of the brightly coloured bottles and tubes were several packs of facial wipes with this review discussing Olay Gentle Cleansing Wipes.
I suffer with T-zone skin and have followed a strict beauty regime since my teenage years where I will cleanse, tone and moisturise. Whilst I use Liz Earle cleanser I frequently feel the need to freshen my face throughout the day and facial wipes are perfect for the job as they are quick and easy to use. I've always highly rated Olay as their products are gentle and caring as they are leaders in skincare.
Identical to all of the other brands I've used there is a small pull back tab on the plastic packaging, which reveals a good size opening for the 20 wipes to be removed. A point I would make here is that the tab successfully reseals, so you have the assurance that your remaining wipes will remain moist until you are ready to use them. The texture of the wipes is of a high quality as they are quite thick in comparison with other brands I've used and they offer a sufficient level of moisture. I've used a few different brands of wipes that had the most disgusting aroma and as a result, I will never purchase again, particularly as the fragrance transferred to my skin. However, these wipes offer a very delicate clean and fresh aroma, which makes them suitable for use by both men and women.
For a wipe to be of benefit to me they have to be able to effortlessly remove my eye shadow, eye liner as well as two coats of non waterproof mascara. I suffer with sensitive eyes, which are easily aggravated by chemicals found in some products, so I am always a little wary when trying something new. However, I found the wipes to live up to their name as they were extremely gentle on my eyes and with only a slight amount of pressure all of my eye make up was removed. They effectively cleansed my skin without leaving it feeling soaking wet and once my skin had dried I did not suffer any tightness, which is sometimes the case with other brands where my cheeks and chin will feel a little uncomfortable. My skin was left feeling wonderfully soft and smooth, which I believe was due to the aloe vera content. Olay claim the wipes will remove waterproof mascara, but unfortunately, I am unable to evidence this as this is not a make up item that I use.
The wipes are suitable for all skin types and at the time of writing and until 13 March 2012 they are on offer at Tesco where a pack of 20 will cost £1.25, which equates to just 6p per wipe. I do not believe in copying lengthy lists of ingredients into my reviews unless I feel there is something of importance that the consumer should be aware of. The wipes need to be disposed of with normal household waste. I can highly recommend Olay Gentle Cleansing wipes as they are convenient to use and live up to their claims and as a result, I will definitely repurchase now they are available at half price.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
When it comes to facial wipes I am not brand loyal, I tend to buy whatever is on offer at the time and as long as they are suitable for my skin then I tend to buy them. I have tried various facial wipes over the years and there is not one single brand or make that really stands out as I find they all tend to do the same thing! Recently on offer in my local Wilkinsons were the Olay Gentle Cleansers Wet Cleansing Wipes.
I have never tried any of the Olay wipes and at half the price they were hard not to resist. The Olay brand is incredibly well known and they have a variety of product ranges available as well as successful patents that they hold proving how innovative their products are. Their ranges offer something for everyone at sensible prices which are not going to break everyones bank which in this day and age is great!
The Gentle Cleansers Wet Cleansing Wipes by Olay come in a rather small rectangular bright blue packet which seems rather small and slim compared to other wipes I have bought and used. On the front there is the Olay label featuring the product name, this is also an easy open label which keeps the wipes sealed. On the back there is the usage directions as well as everything else you would expect to see. I have to admit that when I first saw these wipes on the shelf I did think that they were travel size!
When I got the first wipe out of the packet I noticed how thick they actually were, they were neatly folded and lightly textured almost quilted which was nice. Despite being quite thick they didn't feel stiff or award to use. The wipes are white in colour and barely have any fragrance to them whatsoever, if anything it is a very, very mild fragrance which resembles a fresh, clean aroma which is perfectly pleasant.
Using the wipes is pretty self explanatory and I shouldn't need to explain! I chose to remove my eye make up first which was easy, the wipes are quite soft and easily removed my mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow without any problems whatsoever. Now I don't wear waterproof mascara so they find it a bit more difficult to get through this but with my mascara it removed all traces easily and without leaving any black smudges around the eyes.
As for my foundation, powder and blusher these wipes again have no problem getting it all removed. I think because the wipes are quite thick they are more robust and are able to get through the make up easily without falling apart or going too thin. The wipes are not too wet either despite the product name the wipes are moist but certainly not wet so when you have removed your makeup or just cleansing your face the wipes don't make your skin feel wet or damp which is definitely a good thing.
I have found with some facial wipes that they can dry out my skin a little (normal the cheaper brands) but these wipes from Olay really kept my skin in wonderful condition, my skin wasn't dried out but left looking healthy and feeling normal which is obviously great. The best thing is because they are quite a bit thicker than normal wipes you don't have to use too many which makes the pack last a little longer which obviously saves those pennies! Definitely a great facial wipe and something I would recommend!
~ Useful Info ~
Pack size: 20 wipes per pack
Skin type: normal/dry/combination
Price: £2.99 from Lloyds Pharmacy as an example
Facial cleansing wipes are one of the best skin care products around in my opinion. They're practical, time-saving, and easy to use. I always have a couple of packs at home ready for taking of heavy make-up or a quick cleanse before bed time. I'm not particularly loyal to any one skin care brand, and this time I was looking for something of a higher quality than the last facial wipes I bought (Tesco Value!) and chose these Gentle Cleaners Wet Cleaning Wipes because Olay is a brand name that I recognise. The RRP for this product is £2.49, which is fairly reasonable, but they are available at a discounted price in many high street stores and I bought my pack for 97p from Wilkinsons.
Product description: "Mild everyday cleansing in one simple step. Our wipes with Cleansing Pockets are filled with mild yet effective ingredients to lift away dirt, make up and even waterproof mascara. The result? Simply clean, refreshed, soft skin."
Recommended directions for use: Peel label to open. Use Olay Gentle Cleaners wet cleansing wipes to remove dirt and make-up from your face, neck and around the eye area. Dispose of used wipe in a bin (do not flush). Reseal pack to keep wipes moist.
Facial cleansing wipes are great for when I'm short on time or can't be bothered with a full on cleanse / tone / moisturise routine. These are suitable for a wide range of skin types including normal, dry and combination. My skin type is starting to balance out a little now I've moved away from my blemish prone problem skin years, and I would class my skin as combination, so I was pretty sure these wipes would suit me.
The packaging is very standard for most facial wipes. They come in a plastic wrapper with a peel-back label on the top which you can then re-seal after use. Each pack contains 20 wipes, so to cost it individually this works out that I paid less than five pence per wipe which is great value for money.
The wipes themselves are a basic white coloured cloth that have a nice moist feel, and there did not seem to be any noticeable fragrance. The fabric of the wipes is a little unusual, in that it has small raised bumps on one side of the cloth. There is a "right side up" which you can see when comparing the two sides of the cloth, the bumps will either be raised or indented so you can see if you have it the right way around. These so called "Cleansing Pockets" are supposed to help to lift away any dirt and make-up, but I also think that they have helped the wipes to retain their moisture as they seemed to stay wet despite the packet being opened to use many times, and they did not even dry out towards the end.
To use these cleansing wipes I simply rub over my face in the same way that I would wash with a flannel. As they are already moist you can use them without water and this makes the whole process very speedy and mess free. I rub the wipe over my face, starting from the chin and working upwards so as not to pull the skin down. They seem to remove make-up easily and even eye make-up comes away without much effort. Because the wipes stay wet this helps them to glide over the skin and it definitely lives up to its "Gentle Cleanser" name. My skin feels clean, refreshed, and lightly moisturised after use. The wipes contain Aloe Vera which helps to soothe and repair skin, and is a key ingredient for sensitive skin products. The only slightly bad thing I noticed was that often I would quickly run out of clean space on the wipe and it would be covered in make-up, so I would have to use both sides of the wipe to get a full cleanse. I didn't think that the wipes were a noticeably smaller size than normal, so maybe I just wear a little too much make-up!
I would not hesitate to recommend Olay's Gentle Cleaners Wet Cleaning Wipes. They make cleansing a real breeze, are simple to use and give a full clean while being gentle on skin at the same time. I was surprised to see that there was a real difference to the cheaper brands that I often buy, but the price is still incredibly low and I would definitely buy them again.
When it comes to cleansing wipes in all honesty I usually just go for the pack which is on offer. Last week this just so happened to be Olay Gentle Cleansing Wet Wipes. I have not been a big user of Olay products in the past however I know that Olay is a well established brand so I though that I would give them a try.
The most important thing I expect of a cleansing wipe is for it to remove make up effectively and not leave my skin feeling dry. I have in the past used wipes which instead of removing eye make up simply smudge it which I find very irritating so I like a cleansing wipe which can do the job properly.
Olay Cleansing Wipes
These wipes are packaged like most other wipes in plastic with a label which you peel back to extract the wipes. As long as you replace the label properly this kind of packaging is okay however in the past I have accidentally left it open, only to return to dry wipes.
The wipes don't really have a scent which I can't think is as a bad thing however I do prefer wipes which have a nice fruity aroma. The wipes themselves are not overly wet, they have just the right amount of moisture for them to effectively cleanse.
So do these cleansing wipes remove make up? Yes, they really do. The wipes have cleansing pockets which remove make up really well. Most days I only wear foundation, blusher, lipstick, mascara and eye liner and I can effectively remove all of my make up with no more than 2 wipes, sometimes even 1.
The wipes do not leave my skin feeling dry at all, they actually make my skin feel quite refreshed. The wipes appear to me as being quite mild as they have no smell and they don't feel sticky yet they are really effective. I have used wipes in the past which have instantly left my face feeling dry but these definitely have the opposite effect.
The ingredients in the wipes all seem quite natural, as far as cosmetic products go. There is nothing which would put me off using the product. There are also quite a few moisturising ingredients which must be what leaves your skin feeling soft.
These are not the best cleansing wipes that I have ever used but they certainly do the job well. The wipes remove make up effectively and they do not leave my skin feeling dry, the only improvement I could suggest would be that they had a nice refreshing scent to them instead of well, no scent at all.
I bought the wipes for 99p on sale in Tesco. If they were more expensive than this then I probably wouldn't have bought them however if I saw them on sale again I would have nothing against buying them. There are 20 wipes in each pack so they are guaranteed to keep you going for a few weeks.
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who needs some gentle and refreshing cleansing wipes. I will definitely be trying other Olay products in the future.
Thanks for reading.
Review also on Ciao under luceey.
Since the start of my 'wearing make up' days, I have always used make up wipes. I was around the age of 12-13 when I started wearing make up. I used to buy these cheap make up wipes from Wilkinsons which were about 3 pakcs for £1. Bargain right? No. I used to always get these infections in my eyes. I had them for about a year and never really knew what it was. It just one day stopped. So I am weary when it comes to using things for my face or eyes. I used to not really care what make up wipes I used, I just bought anything that was cheap. But it was about a year ago I noticed that it always feels like I have bits in my eyes. Then I realised it was from these cheap wipes. The little fibres were going in my eyes and making it really uncomfortable for me.
I decided to buy a decent pack of wipes. I saw these Olay ones in Asda and thought I'd give them a go. They were £1.99. Straight away I noticed the different, it didnt feel like I had stuff in my eyes anymore. I wear a lot of eye make up so I mainly wipe my eyes and around my eyes. The other thing I noticed was it got the make up off a lot easier and made my face feel a lot cleaner.
I use one everyday in the morning. I used to take my make up off before I went to bed but now Im just plain lazy! In the pack is 20 wipes. The last me a few weeks. I wont buy any other. Once these wipes were out of stock so I bought the other Olay wipes. They are in a darker blue packet. I dont like using them because they make my eyes sting like crazy. You can find these wipes cheaper than £2. They are in Home Bargains for £1. Also there often on sale in supermarkets for £1. Recently they were in Asda for 80p. So I stocked up and got loads.
These wipes claims to 'lift away' dirt, make up and even waterproof mascara. They are dermatologically tested. These wipes are for normal and dry skin. They have Aloe Vera. I have used waterproof mascara before and they do get rid of it. As it claims. Its really easy to lift make up. It literally comes straight off. It brings foundation off easily also.
I would never use any other wipes! 100% Recommended!!! For ingrediants go to Olay.co.uk
These wipes were a bit of an emergency purchase. I was going away for a few days and on the way I realised I hadn't packed any cleanser. Considering I have lots of different cleansers at home, I didn't want anything too expensive, so opted for wipes. I chose these Olay wipes because at just £1 they were just about the cheapest ones available.
The wipes are described as being gentle and are suitable for dry, normal or combination skin. My skin fits into the dry category most days although on a very good day, I think it could be classed as 'normal'. The pack states that these are filled with mild yet effective ingredients, which will lift away dirt and make-up, including waterproof mascara. I usually carry a mini eye make-up remover in my travel bag, but if the wipes were able to remove make-up and waterproof mascara in one step, then I wasn't going to complain!
The wipes come in a turquoise/blue packet, with a re-sealable sticky tab. I have just one or two wipes left in my pack, and the tab has still got its stickiness. Each pack contains 20 wipes, and compared to other packs of wipes on the shelves it looked quite compact which made it ideal for travelling.
The wipes themselves are white and have a textured surface. They are reasonably thick and a standard sort of size for a face wipe.
I found the wipes to have a mild medicinal sort of scent to them, it used to bother me at first, but I've got used to it as I've worked my way through the pack and I rarely even notice it now.
I found that all of the wipes are fairly moist, which I like as when wipes are too dry they feel as though they are dragging at my skin and that my face isn't being properly cleansed. I also like that they feel incredibly cooling on the skin, which is perfect on a hot day. The material they're made from is soft as well, and not scratchy as some of the cheaper wipes can be.
In terms of cleansing I found these to be very effective. When I wasn't wearing make-up my skin would look and feel refreshed after using these. When wearing light make-up, the wipes got rid of every last trace with only minimal effort required on my part. I did find that if I was wearing foundation, I sometimes needed to use two to feel as though my skin was thoroughly clean.
Where these fell down was in removing waterproof mascara, and in fact they even struggled when I was wearing just regular mascara. If I rubbed the wipe over my eye lashes, there was some grey colouring on the wipe, but most of my mascara remained firmly on my lashes, which meant a separate eye make up remover was required after all.
I didn't find these wipes had any adverse effects on my skin, I received no sensitivity and they didn't dry my skin out at all.
I bought these from ASDA where they cost just £1. Having just checked online, they are now at £1.97, so either ASDA have put their prices up or they were on special offer when I bought them. Tesco are doing them for £1.31 although I think this is for a limited time only.
I did quite like these wipes, aside from the fact that they claim to remove waterproof mascara, which in my experience was not true, then I have no complaints about them, and would recommend them.
Olay gentle face wipes
I went in body care recently and as I am a uni student I am now on the look out for beauty bargins and body care is definitely the place to go. I saw these on one shelf on their own as they were on special offer for only 99p so I had to try them.
*About the product*
The come in a blue and white pack which and each pack contains 20 wipes, which is a bit less than the normal packs that I buy which have 25-30 in them. They are suitable for normal, dry and combination skin. I have dry skin and it is also really sensitive and I am cautious about using products that don't have 'suitable for sensitive' or something of that nature on them - but they were really cheap so I thought I would see how they worked with my skin. The wipes are described as mild and gentle and they are dermatologically tested and are non comedogenic (they don't block your pores).
Although I have just researched their policies on animal testing and there is no "does not test on animals" message on the product and also on their site. They are part of Procter and Gamble which I think do test on animals and for that reason alone I will not be buy this product in the future.
*My opinion of the product*
I like the packaging for this product, on some packs of wipes that I have used (such as the boots cucumber ones - which I do love) the seal on the front does not work very well, this leads the wipes to dry out quite quickly and in turn not work. But with this pack, the only one I have used where the seal is really good. The sticker seal on the front is really strong and sticks well and the wipes remain moist for ages!
-Texture of the product
I find that the texture of the wipes is not that great, with the boots wipes and cheaper ones that I have used, the material that the wipes are made out of is usually really smooth and soft and does not feel harsh on my skin. But the material that make up these wipes feels harsher than others I have used, they also do not feel as soft on my skin. The wipes them selves are really durable and strong though.
-Using the product
Using this product is ok, they don't feel great when I use them as they are not as soft as others and they seem to be made out of a harsher/less smooth material too. But they work well and they remove my make up quickly and easily.
I use a tinted moisturiser, neutral eyeshadows and eyeliner everyday, and most days I wear a waterproof mascara, I find that this product works well at removing all of my make up even my waterproof mascara.
I have a few waterproof liquid eyeliner too and when I use them (especially the elf one) they make a mess of my face when I try to remove them with any product. But these wipes removed my usually stubborn waterproof liquid eyeliner really well too.
I also find that it works really well with my lip liner and lipsticks. Some of my lip stick and liners have a tendency to stay on my lips for ages and they don;t come off easily either but not with these. I wrap the wipes around my finger and just run it out my lips to get the lip products off and it works great. It is great as it does not remove any of my other make up, just the products on my lips if I wrap the wipe around my finger too. Although the only downside to using them on my lips is that they tend to irritate my lips, making them tingle and sting a bit when I use them like this.
The only down side (apart from the possible testing on animals) is that this product kind of irritates my skin. I have really really dry and sensitive skin and even natural products can irritate it, and these really do. The make my skin tingle a bit and they also make it red. The irritate it but not really badly, I have still been able to just them and the tingly feeling does away quickly but the slight redness stays for a while (Up to half an hour after using them).
With some products like this that I have used, they can sometimes make my skin feel really tight and dry but this product does not at all. It removes my make up well and it does not make my skin really dry or really tight either.
This product also stays 'fresh' for a while too, the wipes stay quite moist for a while after opening them. The are not really really moist to begin with but they do stay quite fresh after a week of them being open.
I have been using these wipes for about a week now (probably just over a week) and I do like them for removing my make up - especially my waterproof make up, but I will not be buying them again.
Also the residue from the wipes does not stay on my skin for long, the liquid dries/evaporates off my skin quickly so I can put my moisturiser on not long after using this product.
*Price and availability*
I bought this product from body care for the special offer price of 99p which is great and I don't think I would have paided any more for these as they are not that great. They are also sold in superdrug for £3.05, cheap smells (my new favorite site) for £2, amazon.co.uk for £2 and Lloyds pharmacy for £2.99.
*Easy to use
*Great at removing my make up - especially my waterproof make up
*Strong seal on the front - wipes stay fresh for longer and dont dry out as quickly
*does not really dry my skin out or make it feel tight
*Irritates my skin a bit - tingly and redness
*Possibly test on animals
*The material feels a bit harsh/less smooth on my skin
*Not really really moist when first opened
*Little natural ingredients
Thank you for reading my review x
I always like to have some face wipes handy for when I'm out and about and need freshening up or just if I can't be bothered to do the full cleanse tone moisturise routine but I don't have a specific kind that I use I just go for whatever seems like a good buy really. I bought these Olay Gentle Cleansers because they were only 89p for a pack of 20 in bodycare and that was the cheapest they had at the time.
The packet they come in is quite nice and because it's Olay which is quite a decent brand it doesn't look cheap like a lot of wipes do. It has the usual sticker on the top that peels back to reveal a hole where you pull the wipes out of and I do find that this one sticks back down really well even when you're getting to the end of the packet so you don't have to worry about it coming open and the wipes drying out.
They're not the biggest sized wipes I've used at about 19cm square but it's big enough to easily do the whole of your face and neck without having to feel you're doing too many strokes or move it around overly much. They are nice and moist so you can actually feel them cleansing the skin unlike other drier wipes that don't really feel like they're doing much. They're nice and soft too, and quite thick compared to many wipes, so they don't rip easily.
They don't leave my skin feeling too wet and it dries off very quickly after using them. If I have no or minimal makeup on one wipe is easily enough to thoroughly clean my face, but if I have full foundation on I do feel the need to use another one afterwards just to make sure I've got it all. My skin feels clean and fresh and not tight or dried out. They are very gentle and don't irritate my skin or feel harsh on my eye area which can be very sensitive.
They do remove eye make-up but not particularly easily and it does take a bit of time and effort to get all my mascara off with them and I don't wear much eye make-up really so anyone who does wear a lot would probably find them pretty useless for removing it.
On the pack it says that they're suitable for normal, dry or combination skin but my skin is really quite oily and they work really well for me leaving my skin feeling clean and not greasy or shiny. I'm pretty impressed with these actually so I'll be stocking up while they're cheap.
I have never used facial wipes before and the idea of this one wipe that supposedly removes dirt and debris from your face doesn't particularly appeal to me, though I am an avid user of anti-bacterial hand gel which I suppose is the equivalent for dirty hands.
Housed in a plastic packet much like baby wipes or hand wipes, it has a reseal-able sticker flap where the wipes are dispensed. I thought it was easy enough to take out, but I often take out one too many (like with tissues in a box)- I guess it takes practice to master the skill of tissue pulling?
The simple packaging is appealing but there isn't that much information about what it does or how to use it. I guess it is just common sense?
~~~USING THE PRODUCT AND THE EFFECTS~~~
I wasn't entirely sure how my skin would react and what I'd think of the wipes so I decided to try using them at home. My skin is prone to surface oil so I tried using the wipe in the afternoon and just wiped it across my face. There is a slight tingling sensation and the fragrance is quite over powering.
These wet wipes I suppose contain some sort of liquid soap and it wasn't exactly a great feeling with the oil and the soap and everything just clumped onto my face. Compared to washing my face properly, this is pretty rancid and unpleasant.
I'll admit though, if you wipe well enough, your skin does feel clean-ish, though again not as good as a proper wash. I don't like the feeling after using it- it just feels like there's soap still left on my face and it is a bit sticky.
You can get these on offer for around £1-2 at most supermarkets. I got these as they were on offer and just thought I'd try them- if worse comes to worse, I could give them away or use them to wipe other things.
I will definitely give this another go but cannot see this as a long term product to buy. Perhaps other wipes are more suitable for me. That isn't to say that these wipes don't clean because they do, I just find them a bit uncomfortable and unpleasant to use compared to washing. Though, they will undeniably be convenient when washing isn't possible.
I don't like to use facial wipes too much as I find they can clog up your pores and don't always remove as much dirt as a facial wash, however they are useful to have in for ease and speed. I chose Olay as the wipes were on half price offer at around £1.54 per pack. I tend not to use this brand, however thought I would give it a try as the value was great and it is a reknowned brand - good for younger looking skin which I need to start thinking about!
The packaging is cheerful and a calming blue colour which goes well with a bathroom feel. There are about 25 wipes per pack and they have a soothing aloe addition to help calm skin also. They are gentle and extremely soft on the skin, yet are also supposed to lift dirt and even waterproof mascara.
I have to say that although the wipes are soft, gentle and pleasantly fragranced, I was not impressed. The wipes were very dry and lacking in moisture enough to lift the dirt off of the skin. It was only the last few cleansers which had any decent amount of moisture. Furthermore, they were useless at removing dirt, let alone waterproof mascara! They also seem to leave a slight oily residue on the skin which was annoying. Overall, yes they are gentle, but definitely not cleansing.
I normally use traditional eye make-up remover lotion however I was bought a pack of Olay facial wipes to try by my Mum so thought I'd give them a go!
There are 20 moist wipes in a pack, each wipe contains aloe vera. The pack is re-sealable to ensure that the wipes stay moist and do not dry out, which can quickly happen with face wipes. They are available from most supermarkets and chemists, I believe priced between £2 to £3 per pack.
The outer packaging is bright turquoise in colour with a large label on the front of the pack, which is where the wipes are removed.
Each wipe is white in colour and feels moist, but not too wet. They can be used for removing all types of make-up both from your eyes and face. Personally I didn't think that the wipe felt thick and strong enough to remove all my make-up without tearing, as they are quite thin in my opinion. However upon using for the first time I realised they are actually a lot stronger than they first appear. I managed to remove all my make-up with one wipe, which is what the pack says you should be able to do.
The wipes felt cool when you apply to your face, so they actually made my skin feel nicely cleansed and hydrated without having to apply liquid products.
Overall I was pleasantly surprised at the pure ease of use and how well they did actually remove my make-up. I'm not entirely convinced I will use these all the time and abandon my eye make-up remover lotion however I'm sure I alternate between the two.
Cleansing my face is important to me and I always take a huge bag of toiletries with me on holiday, cleanser for my face, another for my eyes, toner and cream for morning and another for night etc. As we were using Ryanair to go on holiday their weight allowance isn't very generous and so I found myself wondering how I could cut down on my toiletries.
I spotted Olay gentle cleansers in Tesco just before we went away and knowing that Olay has good products I decided to buy a packet, they were even on offer making it a good time to try.
I decided as there were 20 wipes in the packet to try them for a few days before going away just to make sure they actually worked and that they didn't leave my face feeling dry or worse still with a rash! Plus saving a few more grams!
I need not have worried, as always Olay came up to expectations. The packet is compact and bright turquoise in colour, with a simple peel back opening that reseals to keep the wipes moist. Apart from the name there isn't much more information on the front of the packet except that it contains aloe vera, is for Normal/dry/combination skin and is for mild everyday cleansing in one simple step.
On the reverse the directions are given for use - peel label to open, use gentle wet cleansers to remove dirt and make up from face, neck and eye area. Dispose used wipe in a bin - DO NOT FLUSH. Reseal packet to keep moist. The wipes have cleansing pockets filled with mild yet effective ingredients to lift away make up including mascara.
Well, it all seemed a very simple idea so I was looking forward to trying them out and reducing my toiletries for going away. I opened the packet, took out a wipe and unfolded it, it measured about 18 x 20 cm. and I carefully wiped my eyes and face. The make up appeared on the wipe and when I used a clean section to wipe again my face appeared clean. Simple. Quick. Effective. My face was left damp but soon dried and felt pleasant. As usual I still applied a night cream to keep my skin hydrated. I felt that it removed the makeup efficiently and had a very light fragrance. When I used it on holiday I really enjoyed the cool feeling as it cleansed my face as it was very humid even late at night, leaving my skin feeling refreshed.
I bought mine on offer at £1.36 instead of £1.96, but Asda sell them at £1. so worth shopping around.
I will continue to buy these for nights when I feel lazy and want a quick cleansing wipe and also for holiday, but as I have bottles of cleanser and toner I will still follow this regime most of the time. Hurrah for Olay, a great product.
I'm a soap and water girl at heart but do like to have a pack of cleansing wipes on standby just incase I'm feeling a tad lazy and don't want to do the whole cleanse, tone, eyemake up remover routine. When I saw Olay Gentle Cleansing Wipes for £1.00 for a pack of 20 at Semi Chem I thought they'd be worth a try.
I'm a big fan of Olay products and in particular I do like their regenerist range of skincare, amongst other items and was looking forward to using these wipes.
They are similar in style to a packet of baby wipes, but roughly half the size. The packet is bright blue plastic with a sticky seal closure on the top. Once opened they must be used within 3 months.
These wipes contain aloe vera and are quite gentle on the skin and are non comedogenic which for my skin type is a plus. The pack states that they are suitable for normal/dry/combination skin, but I think anyone with a dryer skin type may find them a little too harsh.
I found them to be quite pleasant to use, not at all drying on my oily skin type, although I did need to use a moisturier afterwards. I have very oily blemish prone skin but found that these are suitable, they removed all traces of excess sebum very effectively, whilst still being gentle.
Each wipe is quite generous in size and moist enough without being wet. The wipe is more than ample to clean all my make up off. It is also dimpled, which is supposed to be the cleansing pockets. I do wear a full face most days, including foundation, powder, and quite a lot of eye make up, but these wipes more than coped with the amount I needed to remove.
They made easy work of removing tough mascara and eyeliner, so in terms of performance I'm quite impressed. I would have to say the only down side to these wipes is the fragrance. I find it to be quite unpleasant, quite 'chemically' and artificial. I would prefer a slightly fresher prettier smell, but this is only a minor drawback.
Would I recommend these wipes? Yes definitely worth £1.00, but I would not want to pay much more. They remove make up and excess oil from skin easily and effectively, without drying out the skin. The only down side is the artificial smell.
