Overnight Sensation is one of several moisturisers in the Organic Surge range. They have a daytime moisturiser, an eye gel, Overnight Sensation and a super-intensive daily cream. All of these are priced in the range GBP8.49 to 8.99 with the latter two at the top end of the range.
Overnight Sensation is pitched as suitable for all skin types but I would suggest it’s better on very dry, dry or normal skin rather than combination or oily skin as it’s really quite thick and heavy in texture. It compares quite well with one of my favourites, the Black Pine day cream for very dry or dry skin from Korres which costs nearly 5 times more for a jar that’s 20% smaller. It certainly FEELS like a much more expensive product than it is.
Opening the jar, my first instinct is that the cream smells beautiful. It contains lavender oil but it’s a juicy, fruity scent more than an ‘old ladies underwear drawer’ type of lavender. I also suspect there’s a bit of rosehip or hibiscus in there too as these tend to be typical of most of the organic products I buy, especially the ones from Organic Surge. The cream is a bright white in colour and I run my fingers over the surface to pick up a small amount and then dab it in blobs across my face before rubbing it in. I find that as it dries it tends to tighten slightly which is typical of a lot of anti-ageing products despite that not being one of the claims this cream makes. It contains a high level of shea butter (one of my absolute favourite ingredients) as well as aloe vera (that might be the source of the fruity, juicy scent) and glycerine. There’s an ingredient called Irish moss and a wax that comes from the peel of a Japanese fruit that I’ve never heard of, but the claims made for the product are relatively bullsh*t free compared to most products of this type.
The cream is suitable for vegetarians and vegans and - not surprisingly - hasn’t been tested on any bunny rabbits or other critters. The ‘natural’ ingredient content is 98.99% and if you’re the kind of person who sees that as a challenge and immediately wants to track down the 1% that isn’t natural, you can go to the website and check out the ingredients. Enjoy yourself. I won’t reproduce it here as if you fancy this, you’ll want to go and check out the website for all the details.
From my other reviews you may have realised by now that I am a huge fan of natural or organic skincare products, so I had to give the Organic Surge range a go.
The Organic Surge Overnight Sensation Night Cream comes in a chunky glass tub with a chunky plastic screw on lid. I quite like this packaging design as it's easy to get the cream out meaning none is wasted and also I suspect it would be quite difficult to break this tub - handy for me as I am quite clumsy. However, being so chunky, particularly the lid, from an environmental point of view I feel that they are probably quite wasteful in creating such packaging which is a bit of a shame.
The cream itself is a thick white cream with a very very slight hint of purple or pink, although the tub does state that the colour can vary slightly due to the natural ingredients. I find this cream to be the perfect consistency for a night cream as it feels thicker than a day cream, yet isn't so thick that it just sits on your skin and doesn't sink in. In fact, I find this absorbs into the skin very quickly indeed and without any greasy residue or shine at all.
The scent of this cream is very subtle and slightly herbal or floral - a very natural scent that probably comes from the organic rose geranium essential oil that it contains. With regards to the ingredients, Organic Surge products contain no sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate or parabens and so are probably quite good for sensitive skins. I have experienced no skin irritation with this product.
I apply this product before bed and find that I can get straight into bed within a minute without having to worry about getting moisturiser all over the pillows, as this sinks in really quickly. The scent is quite relaxing which is good for bed time, and my skin feels really moisturised but not clogged or greasy. When I wake up in the morning my skin feels healthy and smooth, and I haven't suffered any overnight break-outs with this product.
Overall I really like the Organic Surge night cream. At £7.99 for 50ml it is a little pricier than some brands but also alot cheaper than others. As you don't need to use a large amount of this cream the tub tends to last quite a while, perhaps a month or two, which isn't too bad. I think I will be sticking with this product for quite some time. I wouldn't say that it makes a drastic difference to skin overnight, but it seems to have struck a rare balance between intense moisturising and not clogging the skin or making it feel greasy. And there's the added benefit of it being alot more natural that many other brands.
