Oriflame Natural Skincare Tender Care
Advantages: multi-purpose, effective, scent, price, long lasting results
Disadvantages: not much flavour on lips, fiddly packaging with slippy fingers
Oriflame offer a collection of products known as 'Tender Care Protecting Balm'. This collection includes five flavours of balm including caramel, cherry, almond, chocolate and coconut. There is also an original balm available too. My review will discuss the coconut flavour.
Each balm contains a blend of vegetable oils and bees wax. It is a multi-purpose product which can be used on different parts of your body that are dry and in desperate need of moisture including your elbows, lips and heels. Oriflame promise that skin will be protected against roughness and dryness. This particular balm is coconut flavoured.
The outer packaging for this product consists of a little cardboard box. Inside, you will find a 15ml pot and the colour of the pot will be dependant on which flavour you choose. As I own coconut, the pot is brown in colour. The pot is made of very smooth plastic and appears to be durable. It also features a screw top lid with the Oriflame logo present on the top. The pot can be recycled once empty.
~Where To Buy~
As present, you can buy this balm from www.oriflame4.me.co.uk or through an Oriflame rep. The current selling price is £3.95 per 15ml pot. The other flavours vary in price.
I suffer with dry skin on various parts of my body. Whilst I try to keep my skin moisturised on a daily basis, I like to be able to add extra moisture to smaller patches of skin through the day and moreso to those areas that tend to flare up with dry patches without much warning. This balm was recommended to me by my sister and I thought it was worth a try. I love the flavour and scent of coconut so decided this flavour was the ideal choice for me.
Firstly, I would like to mention my thoughts on the packaging. The pot is small and easy to carry in my handbag. The lid remains securely in place too so no issues there. If you have ever used the little Vaseline pots, you will know that replacing the lid with product covered fingers is a bit of a nightmare - this pot is the same! Anyway, the gap inside the pot is big enough to fit my finger in to scoop some of the product out but I always ensure my fingers are clean as I don't find it particularly hygenic to keep pressing my finger into a cosmetic product. I have long nails which isn't practical either so think i may invest in a small spatula or something to help me along. Another issue is that the pot is a little narrower at the bottom compared to the top and getting the last remains of the balm out may cause frustration. I will deal with that when the issue arises.
It would be fair to say that this balm is quite similar to Vaseline. It is an off-white colour and looks shiny. The balm has a very soft and easy to spread texture. It does feel a little greasy and is very easy to work with as it melts on contact with the skin. The coconut scent is evident on opening the pot and I can confirm that this balm has a very natural coconut scent which smells absolutely lush. It is very sweet and has a slight chocolate-y undertone which makes me think of a Bounty Bar - delicious!
When I first started using this product, certain areas of my skin were dry and rough. I realise that this balm is best used as a protection from dryness as opposed to a cure for dryness that is already present but in my experience, this balm works a treat on dry skin which is already there. I like to use it on my lips as they become dry and cracked very easily and moreso when it is cold outside as it has been recently. Only the tiniest amount of balm is needed to coat my lips. The balm spreads beautifully and evenly across my lips and instantly makes my lips feel protected and soothed.
The coconut scent is definitely more favourable that the actual taste. I do like a pleasant flavoured lip balm but the coconut flavour doesn't come through quite as well when on my lips which is disappointing. My lips feel moist and have a clear gloss appearance for quite a while after applying this balm. They also feel soft and remain moisturised and free from dryness. I rarely need to top up the amount of balm on my lips through the day and have been impressed by how well it protects them from becoming cracked and sore. I can imagine it will be even more appreciated through the Winter. I like that it protects my lips but doesn't leave them feeling heavy.
This balm is perfect for smoothing over small patches of dry or prone to dryness skin. If you are wanted to moisturise a larger area of skin, it would be best to use an all over moisturiser instead of a little pot of balm. The small pot would run out very quickly if you spread it across your entire body. I tend to use it on my elbows, knees, around my heels and on some small areas of dryness on hands. As with my lips, not much is needed to give excellent results. The balm spreads across the area of skin with ease and does take a short while to absorb into my skin.
Whilst absorbing, a slightly greasy balm layer is evident on my skin. Once it has absorbed, the dry patches are left smooth to the touch and with regular use, I have noticed a very reasonable improvement in how often the dry patches flare up. My skin smells lovely after I've applied this too and the results are long lasting. I normally apply this to the really bad areas of dry skin and a regular body lotion or butter to the other areas of skin to ensure that all areas of skin are receiving a decent amount of hydration. It is easy to slick over skin and there isn't much need to massage it in as it is best left to absorb naturally. As soon as I feel my skin becoming uncomfortable or dry, I apply a small amount of this balm and it soon disappears.
I have had a positive experience with this Tender Care Balm. It has proven to be of a high quality and has fufilled the companies claims when it comes to protecting my skin. I find it to be more effective than the slightly cheaper Vaseline pots. I appreciate how adaptable it is to different areas of skin and whilst I wish the coconut flavour was a bit more evident whilst on my lips, this isn't a massive issue for me. I have used a similar multi purpose product from L'Occitane and find this one to be just as good but less expensive. I haven't experienced any irritation from using this product. All in all, I would recommend this versatile little balm.
Thanks for reading :)
