Origins A Perfect World Moisturizer
Advantages: skin feels silky smooth and looks healthy and radiant
Disadvantages: keen on smell, no SPF (although there is an alternative available), expensive
Back in April Origins ran a promotion where you could bring back a used tube of any moisturiser and in exchange they would give you a 50ml tube of one of their moisturisers. For those that don't know, Origins is a premium skin care brand, and their counters can often be found in department stores and large branches of Boots. The offer was absolutely fantastic as the 50ml is a full sized product worth £33! To be honest I was just expecting a sample tube of the moisturiser so was really chuffed to receive a full-sized amount. These types of offers crop up from time to time - last year Clinique were offering a small tube of mascara in exchange for an old one. It's a great promotion and for this reason I tend to hang onto old cosmetic tubes just in case another offer comes along.
The cream that I received was "A perfect world". This is an antioxidant moisturiser with white tea and is suitable for all skin types. White tea has recently been shown to be a potent antioxidant that has anti-aging properties. The higher levels of pollution associated with living in a city means that there is a greater potential for skin damage so I am always on the lookout for a product that can protect against this. There is not a lot of information on the tube but on the Origins website (www.origins.co.uk) there is more detail on how white tea helps maximise skins moisture barrier, hydrates the skin and helps it to remain firm. The product is described as "best for age protection" as it helps to minimise lines and wrinkles as well age spots.
The cream comes in a white coloured tube with the Origins tree logo on it. The tube stands on a black lid that flips open. The tube is made from 30% post consumer plastic and the cap is made from 100% recycled products. I find this kind of information makes me feel much more positive about the ethics and responsibilities of the company. Talking of ethics I always like to know a little more about the company that I purchase cosmetics from in terms of their ethics and "naturalness" of their products. Origins mission is to create high performance natural skincare that is powered by nature and proven by science. They use potent plants, organic ingredients and 100% natural essential oils and avoid the use of parabens, dyes and mineral oils in their products. This particular cream also does not contain any animal ingredients so should be suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Origins also state that they have a long-standing commitment to protect the planet, its resources and all those who populate it. Their products are tested on a panel of volunteers and they do not conduct any animal testing. Further information can be found on their website - www.origins.co.uk which does make interesting reading.
Now back to the cream itself. I tend to follow the instructions on the tube and apply this every morning and evening, massaging it into the skin of my face and neck. The cream is white in colour and has a nice, thick consistency, though not too thick as this rubs into the skin effortlessly without leaving it feeling greasy or heavy. Once applied my skin is left feeling amazingly silky and so smooth. I really am impressed with this as no other cream that I have applied to my face so far has made my skin this silky! My skin looks healthy and radiant and feels really moisturised. I have applied make up onto the skin straight after applying the moisturiser and despite how soft my skin is I have had no problems with patchiness or foundation not sticking.
This leave me with a bit of a dilemma really as although it makes my skin feel amazing I really don't like the smell of this cream. It smells quite strong and citrusy and catches the back of my throat. The scent also does last a fair amount of time which is not great for me! Having said that I seem to be in a minority as many of the reviews I have read on this product have commented on how lovely this smells so don't let me put you off trying this!
The second niggle that I have is that this cream does not contain any SPF factor, although there is another cream in this range with SPF available at the same price. Although I am not enamoured with the scent I don't think I would let this put me off using this again - I think the price would do that! It's certainly not something that I could afford to buy on a regular basis despite how lovely it is. I will be adding this to my birthday/Eid list in the hope that someone buys this for me again and will also keep an eye out for any future promotions, although I would go for the cream with SPF in it (hopefully this smells different too!).
Overall I really do like this product. It makes my skin feel amazingly soft and looking really healthy. I am not too keen on the scent for which I have taken off a star. Recommended!
Summary: A great little moisturiser from Origins
