Origins is a brand which I have just started to use. I have never been drawn to it when I have wondered past it in a store however; I have been drawn to their magazine advertisement. A couple of months ago I saw in a magazine an advertisement for a free sample for popping to the Origins counter and having a complimentary skin consultation. I pulled out the magazine page and popped it into my purse in case I wondered past it one day soon. I did happen to be stuck in town waiting for somebody one day in Exeter and I popped into House of Fraser to the Origins counter, I was sat down and asked some questions to determine my skin type and my concerns. Then finally I was given a 50ml sample of a product. I was blown away by the size of the sample. I tried this sample only 2 weeks ago and I absolutely loved it so I popped into Origins and bought it and whilst I was there I was also tempted to buy this product... the Brighter By Nature High-Potency Brightening Peel Pads.
Brighter By Nature?
Brighter By Nature refers to three products in the Origins skin care range. There is a skin tone correcting moisturiser and serum and then these exfoliating pads. I was recommended to use these products together but I explained to the lady that I did not have a major concern with uneven skin tone but I just wanted something to exfoliate my skin that was more advanced than other products.
This product uses a fruit-acid complex which includes a mix of fruits such as blueberry and grape seed extract which helps to sweep away dead skin cells, as well as dirt and oil from the skin's surface. It is a high-potency brightening peel which helps to uncover a brighter and more refined looking skin. The high level of exfoliation works to reduce uneven skin tone such as, age spots and past blemish scarring. Age spots also known as pigmentation are dark patches on the skin produced by the overproduction of melanin in the skin. This overproduction can be causes by hormones, genes and UVA and UVB rays. The melanin is a form of protection to the skin to prevent further damage to the skin. So this product would help to disperse the melanin making it less visible by exfoliating it. Other ingredients such as caffeine and basil leaf help to soothe and comfort the skin to prevent any irritation or redness. The main exfoliating ingredient in these pads is salicylic acid which seems to be in most exfoliating products. The pads are oil free and can be used for a sensitive skin despite them being fragranced. I certainly had no problem with them.
I have also used Clinique's version of a microdermabrasion kit in their Turnaround range which they have now discontinued and this came with a comforting cream to put on afterwards which I found too greasy for my skin. So I absolutely love that this product comforts the skin whilst exfoliating it.
What is this product?
This product contains 40 very thin circular pads which exfoliate the skin. They are to be used twice a week on cleansed skin prior to moisturising the skin. When I first used one I peeled off two together and wasted one so I realised I had to be careful in future to ensure that I only peeled one off the pack (this is because they are so thin). The instructions stated for them to be used in a circular motion which was what I did once over the skin. I experienced a slight tingling sensation from the pad but the lady at Origins had already told me that this is normal. After putting my moisturiser on I felt how soft and clean my skin felt. But it wasn't until the next day that I felt how nice my skin felt and my make-up went on so much better without my skin flaking at all. Despite having an oilier skin my skin can flake very easily (a very difficult type of skin!)
A tip regarding the circular pot these pads come in is that after using a pad ensure that the lid is tightly screwed on to ensure the pads do not dry out because they are very wet when you take one out.
What can I compare these to?
The only item that these are similar to in my opinion are the Clearasil Stayclear Pore Cleansing Pads which I used several years ago. They feel quite similar and I know there are other versions on the market, but it gives an idea as to what these pads look and feel like.
These pads smell very similar to the Clinique Clarifying Lotion (an alcohol and chemical smell) however, it also has a slight fresh fruit smell added to it which makes it a little bit nicer to use.
These pads retail at £29.00 for 40 of them which makes each pad a massive £0.73 each! So I hoped they'd do the job for that price! Luckily I was pleasantly surprised!
Out of 10?
This product scores 4 out of 5 stars for its comforting and exfoliating benefits, but it loses one star for the price of the pads because I feel like this is a little bit excessive despite them doing a good job. The Clearasil version (despite this being directed for reducing pores and blemishes) is £4.00 and you get far more pads. This I guess is just a more advanced premium brand product version.
I would certainly recommend this product to somebody who already uses the Origin range, I would not go out of my way to buy this if I was not already buying something else from Origins. I would also recommend this product to somebody with excessively oily skin and to somebody who feels they have a concern with uneven skin tone. However, if you have a main concern with age spots (as previously described) I would say that you would need to use the other products in the Brighter By Nature range to see results from them.
