Advantages: An effective product attractively packaged and priced.
Disadvantages: Not necessarily recommended for all seasons and skin types.
Pond's Cold Cream is one of those slightly vintage products that the papers like to slip into articles about cheap and old methods of skincare while you read sceptically thinking; surely this multi-billion pound industry has developed a bit since the 1920s. It's only natural, after all our grandmothers' beauty regime also included girdles and we've moved on since then. It would be entirely understandable to dismiss Pond's Cold Cream, it would also be entirely wrong. Sometimes things don't change because they don't need to. Pond's Cold Cream is one such thing. It comes, very reasonably priced, in attractive glass jars that have since found new homes on my desk holding paperclips and safety pins. Upon opening you are greeted with a pure white cream and an evocative clean smell with just a touch of old fashioned glamour (or perhaps I'm just imaginative). It's thick but easily spreadable and extremely effective; smooth it on, leave it for five minutes and then wash it and whatever make up you were wearing off. It leaves no traces but a pleasant clean sensation. Personally I use it almost as a mask. I spread it on before my bath, leave it on for ten to fifteen minutes and then wash it off with a warm flannel leaving my skin beautifully soft and smooth. The cream however can be a bit heavy during summer months or if you're prone to greasy skin, especially if you use moisturiser afterwards. The fact that it comes in a jar can also make it difficult to get all the cream out as you come to the end of the jar. Ultimately however it is an extremely reasonably priced and effective product; there are reasons the classics never die.
Summary: A classic everyday cream that's hard on your make up but easy where it matters (skin and pocket).
