Purity Regenerating Overnight Moisturizer
Advantages: Moisturising and inexpensive.
Disadvantages: No fragrance but that is the intention.
Regular readers of my reviews may know that I am always looking out for new paraben free cosmetics and toiletries. Recently it is so pleasing to see these products in high street stores with everyday price tags. Although there are some beautiful products in this category available from specialist stores, they are simply too expensive for many to purchase. Even receiving these as gifts raises a question - that being a love affair with these items may develop causing a dilemma when the item is finished, as repeat purchases can be costly.
I have recently been trying a night moisture cream which is sold exclusively by Superdrug called Purity. This cream is part of a range designed to provide natural skin care at a price most of us can afford. A real step forward in my opinion.
Researching the company I also found elements which I really liked. They have a philosophy which is to use organic ingredients in their products, and to make them with sustainability and ethical considerations at the forefront of their mind. The price is pegged low, and they achieve this by making the same core ingredients the basis of all of their range.
They are 100% British, and all the products are fragrance free and are intended to be used especially by those who are sensitive to the ingredients in mainstream products.
What shines out to me from this is that at last there is a skincare range easily available and affordable, all elements of the range fall between £4.99 and £8.99.
The products are split into two categories, morning and evening, and the product I am reviewing is designed to be used before bedtime and falls into the latter category. It is named "Regenerating Overnight Moisturiser"
Part of the way these products are kept in the inexpensive range is that they have simple packaging. This night cream is presented in a lilac and cream screw top pot and retails for £7.99 for 50 ml. As mentioned previously there is no scent at all in the product. I suppose for myself this is a disappointment as I normally choose those which have a delicate rose or violet fragrance. However this is not the intention of this product, which is catering for simplicity, and so contains the minimum content of potentially allergy inducing ingredients.
The cream is made from Almond Oil from Spain, Shea Butter sourced from West Africa, Beeswax sourced in France, and Aloe Vera, and has vitamin E and an ingredient called Ceramide 3 which helps to seal in moisture. This ingredient is a naturally occurring skin lipid or fat which ensures that the cream provides a barrier, allowing the complexion to retain its natural dewy look in the morning. Due to the beeswax in this cream sadly it isn't suitable for vegans, but some of their other products are. The almond oil is a good moisturising agent, rich in essential fatty acids and B vitamins, and aloe vera, which they obtain from the Dominican Republic, has soothing properties. Some of their other products contain lovely ingredients including those obtained from coconut and avocado.
What I really love about this company is that their website is simple and presents facts in a clear and understandable way. It is noted on there that each day the average person will use 12 beauty products exposing themselves to 160 chemicals. Their mission is to replace these with those which have been gathered from nature, thus reducing the exposure each person may be receiving to ingredients with unknown risks, and to reduce the possible interaction between many chemicals.
Using this cream was a delight. It isn't greasy at all but is a rich and creamy white moisturising product which is easily absorbed, and I found it to leave my skin so soft. Waking up I really noticed that this softening attribute had lasted all through the night.
I would say this product is ideal for mature and sensitive skin in particular.
Using this product has really impressed me and I will be trying all the range now, and everything about the products from the way they work through to the ethics of the company behind them is so impressive. The price is brilliant too!
The range includes:
Facial Wash, Conditioning Cleansing Lotion, Facial Exfoliator, Facial Moisturiser, Anti-Aging Moisturiser, Regenerating Overnight Moisturiser, Anti-Aging Serum and Mask.
To date these are available only by mail order from www.purityorganicskincare.co.uk, or from Superdrug Stores. If you visit Superdrug two points will help you to save money. It is a little known fact that there is a cash-back site called Greasy Palm which offers high street cash-back when you pre-register your card with them. Visit www.greasypalm.co.uk. Having done this you will receive 3% back when you use your card to purchase items in store. Furthermore each time you shop you will also be given a short questionnaire, which if you complete online you will then be given a code which you take back into the store. This completed form allows you to benefit from 10% back when you spend more than £10 within the next 28 days, or 20% if you purchase Superdrug own label products. This survey has saved me so much money. I get into the routine of completing it as soon as I return from a shopping trip, and then put the code into my bag ready to use again. It makes Boots points so much less attractive, and Superdrug really is trying to give organic companies a chance to get their products known, which I really like and admire. Online shopping at Superdrug is also possible and a cash-back site such as that at www.topcashback.co.uk will yield 9% back on purchases.
The website at Purity is also a source of information about ethical living, and has links to other websites and ideas for environmentally friendly products and ways to save the planet in general. I really love this cream, it is an outstanding product for a fantastic price.
