“ Brand: Montagne Jeunesse / Type: Face Mask / Suitable for: Face / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types „
The Sensuous Spice Self Heating face mask from Montagne Jeunesse is a fairly new addition to their range, but one I absolutely adore and used regularly throughout the long winter we had this year - I've continued to favour this mask even now the weather has warmed up (kinda). It smells very warming due to the fact that the scent is cinnamon and ginger, the main fragrance being the cinnamon with the ginger adding a spicy warmth rather than actual aroma. It actually reminds me of Christmas due to the lovely sweet spicy fragrance, I remember applying it on Christmas Eve to help push myself into a festive countenance - it worked, so will be forever known as a Christmassy mask. Even in June.
As it's a self heating mask you need to apply it quite quickly; it has a creamy but very slightly sticky consistency, the mask feels lovely as it goes on and seems to always apply fairly smoothly. You're advised to wash your face using water only, but I like to cleanse properly with a gentle cleanser as that seems to give even better results in terms of leaving my skin feeling spotlessly clean. Rinse it off well and leave your face wet before applying the mask, it'll start warming up as soon as it comes into contact with your skin and heats quickly and evenly. I personally find this Sensuous Spice face mask gets hotter than any of my usual chocolate-based masks, never overpoweringly hot but much warmer than other masks of this type - part of this effect is subconscious I'm sure as the mask smells so warm, but the heat generated is incredibly soothing and relaxing.
The mask doesn't dry so is easily rinsed off, it's probably the quickest one to remove of the whole Montagne Jeunesse range actually and can be rinsed away with warm water within a couple of minutes. It remains creamy for the duration of the time you wear the mask and feels very moisturising as it sits on my skin - my only criticism is that the mask stains everything it touches with a grubby orange hue, so don't be using your best towel while using it! I dripped a little of the rinsing water on my dressing gown a while ago and despite numerous washes (both with and without Vanish) I've never been able to get rid of the stain completely.
After rinsing my skin instantly feels amazing. My pores are visibly reduced in size and feel totally clean and clear, the overall appearance of my skin is clear and almost luminous as it looks so healthy. A twenty minute session with this mask leaves my skin tone more even, I'm always impressed by how soft and smooth my skin feels immediately after using this mask and these effects last literally for days. My make-up looks flawless after I've rinsed the mask off, it doesn't redden my skin so I can apply my make-up straightaway and I absolutely love the look of my skin when made-up immediately after using it. I'm also impressed by how the warm cinnamon scent lingers on my skin for a while, cinnamon (and generally 'spicy' smells) are amazing to me - this is absolutely one of the nicest and most natural smelling of all.
Montagne Jeunesse say this Sensuous Spice face mask is suitable for people with normal or oily skin, and I'd agree with this. The spiciness makes it quite drying in places; my skin is normal and it suits me well, moisturising and smoothing as it settles on my face. However, I have a small odd patch of dry skin and this area becomes quite tight after using this particular mask - I can live with this as the overall effects are so impressive, but if your facial skin is all-over dry you may find this is a little too drying and look towards another mask from the range.
At £1.20 a mask I'd say this is pretty good value, even better if you can control yourself and get two applications from each sachet. This is possible but I find the level of fragrance suffers unless you use the full contents of the sachet, I'd rather not eke it out to save a few pennies and instead enjoy the rich spicy scent in its entirety.
The other week my sister went for a facial and for a good week after her skin looked absolutely glowing and I was so jealous! I had used a self-heating face mask from from Superdrug brand which was actually really nice so I decided to treat myself and use the montagne jeunesse brand self heating masque as in my local 99p store I saw a packet and it seemed cheap and cheerful!
*** About The Face Mask ***
It comes from the Montagne Jeunesse range and is the Sensuous Spice Self-Heating Mask. It has ingredients of cinammon and ginger to brighten and tighten the skin and cleanse the pores. As I had tried a self-heating mask before I knew I'd enjoy the experience and it was highlighted that it is suitable for all skin type so I didn't worry about any irritation. The face mask comes in a 10ml sachet and is made of plastic and is easy to tear open and get to work!
*** Directions ***
The directions are really straightforward and are as follows:
Splash face with warm water only and leave wet. Then, apply the face mask evenly over face and neck with fingertips, avoiding eyes and lips. It is then recommended to leave the face mask on for 10-15 minutes and embrace the warming sensation! Once finished, rinse the mask off with warm water and pat your face dry.
*** My Experience ***
As I had used a self-heating mask from the Superdrug brand before I knew what to expect so it was really straightforward. The face mask itself is rather thick and creamy, and distinctly caramel-ish/beige in colour. As soon as I opened the pack I could smell the cinnamon straight away and it did smell quite exotic and spicy and very rich compared to the superdrug branded version. It's a lot thicker and so easier to apply as the version I used before was runny.
The mask warming on my face was a lovely feeling again, and I liked the warmth and heat on my face as I laid back for probably 20 minutes! It didn't sting or irritate and I made sure to not put it anywhere near my eyes as last time I got a bit in there and it stung like s@*!
Removing the masque was easy to do with a warm, damp flannel to nicely wipe the face mask off. The mask came off quite easily and was not sticky or gooey but a simple thick liquid. After taking the face mask off and then giving a little rinse again with warm water I did feel that my face was a bit softer and felt a lot tighter which I think is attributed to the ginger in the mask. Undoubtedly my face was not as clear and gleaming as my sisters did after her facial but I felt quite refreshed and rejuvenated so it was a good deal at 99p!
*** Overall ***
I did actually really like using this face mask and it was as good as the superdrug version so in that case was no better even though it was actually cheaper. I did notice a nice difference in my face and whilst it is no miracle worker it makes for a nice treat in the evening to rejuvenate my face!
I love using face masks and recently picked this mask up in my local Asda when it was on sale for £3, it was previously £5, which is a bargain in my opinion. The mask is designed to be suitable for normal skin and oily skin. It is self heating and smells divine.
The mask is made from cocoa, cinnamon, ginger, Mediterranean Clay, argan, avocado and Lavender (and other ingredients). It is designed to cleanse your skin and remove oil and impurities from deep within your pores, this is done using the unique ingredients and the fact that it is a self heating mask so it opens up your pores more than a not heating mask. It should leave your skin thoroughly cleansed, soft and refreshed. The cinnamon in the mask is supposed to tighten your skin and the ginger is to uplift your senses.
The product contains natural ingredients but you are advised to do a patch test on your arm to make sure you do not have an adverse reaction to the mask.
The mask comes in a multi use tube, the tube states that the natural ingredients in the face mask may vary in colour, is best kept out of reach of children, to avoid your eyes, to test for irritancy before use (I did not do this) and that it is for external use only. The product is thick and creamy in texture and brown, slightly red in colour. To use the mask, I just squeeze the desired amount out of the tube and apply to my cleansed face and neck. I then relax in the bath or lie on the bed for 15 minutes. As soon as you put the mask onto your fingers to apply it to your face you can feel the heat start to work and it feels pretty warm to start with. The heat effect last for a few minutes before it starts to wear off and it makes your face a bit tingly, the mask is quite sticky and I find a little tricky to remove, I tend to use a damp face cloth as I find it easier to remove all traces
As soon as you open the sachet you are greeted with a strong scent of cinnamon and ginger, it goes onto my face well and the scent helps me to relax, the scent stays around for a long time even after I have rinsed it away, which is nice. The mask does not dry. After I used the mask for the first time, I did get a couple of blemishes appear on my chin, though I have now used this mask a few times and this no longer happens. My skin is always left feeling soft and hydrated and also nourished after using it. I have never experienced any skin irritation, my skin is combination and can be quite sensitive.
Overall I would recommend this face mask to others as it smells great, I love the fact that it heats up, its well priced and it actually makes an improvement to my skin.
