      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A product that leaves skin exfoliated, soft and smooth from a trusted brand

I am a big fan of Simple products and regularly use their wipes, cleanser, toner and moisturiser. I also like to use a facial scrub on a regular basis, and for a good many months, probably well over a year, this 'oil balancing' variety has been the one that I use. I have very oily skin, which is why I tend to use this variety.

      Availability and price:

I usually find this product fairly easy to get hold of, although sometimes stores stock the normal cleansing version but not this 'oil balancing' type. I tend to purchase mine from either Boots or Superdrug, where they can currently be purchased for £3.99 for a 75ml tube. I find £3.99 to be a little on the expensive side but I often find that Boots have a 3 for 2 offer on Simple products, and Superdrug currently have a buy one get one free offer on this product, and so I often wait until there is a deal available and then I stock up.

      Packaging:

This facial scrub comes in a blue tube, blue being used for all of their oil balancing products. It is has an easy to open flip lid, which I have also found to be fairly secure once shut, as the product has never leaked when being transported around in suitcases. The scrub claims to 'remove dead skin cells, dirt and impurities', and to reduce blackheads in 7 days, which is something they say has been clinically proven. It also claims to control shine, which is something that would be very helpful to me with my very oily skin. Like many of their other products, this facial scrub doesn't contain any perfume, colour or harsh chemicals, and so it should be fine to use on sensitive skin. It has also been 'dermatologically tested and approved'. Anyway, enough about what it doesn't contain, here is what the back of the tube tells us it does contain: witch hazel to help reduce blemishes, natural zinc to absorb excess oil, rice powder to exfoliate and smooth, vitamin e to moisturise and pro-vitamin B5 to restore, soften and smooth.

      Application:

In order to get the best results from the facial scrub, it is advised that you 'apply a small amount to damp face and neck. Gently massage in circular movements with fingertips avoiding the eye area. Rinse away with plenty of water.' We are also advised that the product is gentle enough that it can be used daily.

      My use of the product:

I don't use this scrub every day, but I do use it every other day, using Simple's cleanser on the days in between. I first tried using a facial scrub over the sink but I found that it gets a bit messy, and you need to make sure that you properly rinse all of the product away, so that it doesn't go in your eyes, and so I prefer to use it in the shower where I find it is a lot easier to rinse it all off. A word of warning: surprisingly enough, you really don't want to get this product into your eyes. I am always very careful to keep my eyes firmly shut until all of this product is rinsed away, but the other week I somehow managed to get some into my eye and ouch! I could feel the little particles rubbing away at my eye, and my eye was very sore and red for a good few hours afterwards. So you have been warned!

      My thoughts:

The scrub is white with no noticeable smell to it, which is exactly how I would expect it to be when we are told it contains no perfume or colour. I have found a few scrubs in the past haven't had my exfoliating beads within them and so I haven't felt like they have done a great job of exfoliating my skin; this facial scrub on the other hand contains loads, and so I really feel that it is effective at exfoliating my face and getting rid of all the dead skin cells and rubbish that builds up in my pores! Because of how many little exfoliating beads there are in it, I only use a small amount of the product and so one tube lasts me for a good few months, even though I use it once every other morning. I have to say, I'm not sure about the claim that this product controls shine, as on the days that I use it I still end up as shiny as the days that I don't. It may help very slightly to control shine, but any improvement certainly isn't noticeable. I only tend to pick this version over the normal 'cleansing' one because they're usually the same price and I think maybe I should choose the product thats suited to my skin type. This facial scrub certainly does help to remove blackheads, and while it in no way gets rid of all of mine, it does make them look a hell of a lot better, which is a big plus for me. My skin also feels nice and smooth and really soft after using this scrub, and so I feel that it does look after my skin.

      Conclusion:

A facial scrub from a trusted skincare brand, which exfoliates well and leaves skin soft and smooth with blackheads a lot less obvious. I would recommend this product.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Not yay, but not nay either.

I am always on the lookout for new beauty items for various reasons, even when I already have five of the same sort of thing, I still like to try more just to see how they work.

One day in Boots I came across the 'Simple' facial scrub, and decided to give it go as it was reasonably priced compared to other products I have used such as Clinique etc.

The main reason I decided to give it ago was because I suffer a lot from spots and blemishes and seeing as it was advertised as a clear skin treatment I had nothing to lose. It cost me no more than £3 a couple of months back and to me, it was worth the money. Ut also states that it has been clinically proven to help reduce appearance of blackheads and blemishes.

I use it once a day when I go for my daily shower or bath and wet my face first and then apply a small amount onto my fingers and rub into my face. I give it a good scrub to make sure that my skin is even as I seem to get a lot of 'bobbley' bits on my face, especially my nose which makes makeup application a bit uneven and harder to apply. Once it is rubbed in good and proper I rinse my face to make sure it has all been removed and jobs a good'en.

When my face is dry, it feels really soft and suitable for toning.

So what does it look like?

The tube itself is blue and stands up by using the lid as a base, so its upside down and easy to squeeze out of the tube. The tube isnt completely see through but has a nice colour tone to it and looks professional but also very clean looking which I liked. On the front it says 'simple' in big type and then says what it is underneath, so in this case an 'oil balancing, clear skin, face scrub'. It also includes a little bit more information on the back like how to apply and such.

The scrub itself is pale blue and white colour with tiny blue beads which are used to exfoliate the skin, but not big enough to irritate or hurt like some others i have tried- See my review on Lush's Ocean Salt to see what i mean by this. There is a slight smell to it but it is unperfumed, so nothing has been added to it scent wise and therefore is good for people with sensitive skin like myself.

So has it worked for me?

It has definitely helped me even my skin out, however I do still get spots on my face so doesn't completely prevent them I am afraid. However I shall keep searching for the perfect scrub, or even still use this and find a different face wash. its all trial and error at the end of the day.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A really good face scrub that if lathered slightly I would absolutely love

I suffer from mild Rosacea and I need to use products that aren't too harsh on my skin. Simple is always a brand that I trust because of their appoach to their products being gentle and nourishing.
Lately I have been suffering from a few breakouts and greasy skin so I went to Boot's looking for something that would help and when I came across the simple rangle of oil controlling products that were on a 3 for 2 I decided to buy them and see if they would help my skin. If you want to jus buy the scrub then it is £3.99 which is a good price but be warned a tube will not last long.

I got the face wash, moisturiser and the face scrub which is supposed to help unblock the pores and it goes so far as to promise a reduction in the number of blackheads on the skin by up to 64% in only 7 days. As I don't really suffer from black heads this wasn't really a selling point to me but I surmised that if it was so effective in combating blackheads then it was also bound to unclog my pores and help stop my break outs.

The scrub comes in a bluey green tube and is surprisingly small and compact looking compared to other scrubs which are usually a little bigger for the price.
It has a flip lid to help keep water out of the product and it can be stood up straight on a shelf or shower cubicle for easy access.

The scrub itself is white and creamy feeling and the particles that scrub away the dead skin and unclog the pores are really fine. It took me a little while to get used to the fineness of the scrub because I am used to really sloughing the skin away but I know that you are not really supposed to do that and this one is much gentler. The bottle does say that you can use the scrub every day if you want but the problem with this for me is that it just doesn't feel as though I have washed my face when using this.

The scrub doesn't lather so when you apply it to your face and rub it in there doesn't seem to be enough product so I end up having to use some more which means the tube really doesn't last very long.
It is really easy to wash off the skin as the scrub sort of melts with the hot water so it only takes a couple of splashes to remove it.
Even though I always feel like it hasn't cleaned my face enough when I wash it off my skin is lovely and clear looking and it actually looks matt straight away and it feels as though there is a fine layer of powder on my skin which I like.

Surprisingly for a simple product it is scented but it doesn't contain perfume or colour so the scent must come from some of the natural ingredients that are used such as the which hazel and the smell is quite botanical and pleasant.
I found that within a few days of using the products combined that my skin was looking much better and although it doesn't clear my spots up completely it does leave my skin looking good and also the fact that it leaves my skin completely matt and shine free for hours is a massive bonus.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Simple does it again!

I've used Simple products since I was a teenager, as I've always had sensitive skin and Simple is pretty much the only brand guaranteed not to bring me out in a rash. However, the cleanser, toner and moisturiser I've always used hasn't been as good for me lately - when I was a teenager I had quite dry skin, but as I grew older I began to get a few spots, and now in my mid twenties I have combination/oily skin, which is a bit of a pain. Therefore I decided to have another look at the Simple range to see if there was anything else suitable.

While browsing the shelf in Boots, the Clear Skin Oil Balancing Facial Scrub caught my eye. It cost £3.99 for a 75ml tube, which is a bit more than some other products from the range, but it's still pretty cheap overall and Simple products are often on special offer anyway. Like other products in the Oil Balancing range, the tube is a blue colour rather than the green of standard Simple products. The tube is clear, which means you can easily see how much product is left.

Simple state on the packaging: "Our oil balancing facial scrub is a perfect blend of active ingredients and exfoliating goodness to remove dead skin cells, dirt and impurities. Clinically proven to reduce blackheads and blemishes in just 7 days. Perfect for even sensitive skin".

The scrub contains '3 skin-loving nutrients': witch hazel to help reduce blemishes, natural zinc PCA to absorb excess oil, and rice powder to exfoliate and smooth. Two 'vital vitamins', vitamin E which moisturises to improve the condition of your skin, and pro-vitamin B5 which actively restores, softens and smoothes, are also included. Like all Simple products, the scrub contains no perfume or colour. The product claims that it controls shine and produces healthy, clear skin, also that it is gentle enough to use every day.

To use, the instructions are: "Apply a small amount to damp face and neck. Gently massage in circular movements with fingertips avoiding the eye area. Rinse away with plenty of water. Gentle enough to use daily".

When opening the tube, you see that the scrub is white and colour and has a vague, mild, fresh scent - presumably the natural scent of the product, as no perfume has been added. It is reasonably thick and coarse in texture, though not as much as a body scrub. I found that I couldn't use the product at my sink, as the exfoliating particles were very difficult to rinse off, and I ended up getting them in my hair and all over my towel! Therefore I started taking it into the shower in the morning, meaning that I could rinse it off much more easily. I used my normal cleanser and toner at night.

I've been using the product for about a month and have about 1/5 to 1/6 left. Overall I'm impressed. My skin looks more toned and even, and has fewer blemishes. I was having trouble with a few small spots under my nose that just wouldn't go away, and they have vanished. The pores and blackheads on my nose are definitely reduced, though there hasn't been a 64% reduction as claimed by the packet. My skin hasn't been irritated at all, so I can definitely confirm that the product is gentle enough for everyday use.

I am really pleased with this product: I'd certainly buy it again, but I'd also like to try more products for oilier skin in the Simple range.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Probably better than most face washes, and full of natural ingredients

I use this wash every morning before Simple Kind To Skin Soothing Facial Toner and Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturiser and am perfectly happy with it. I've found that some cleansers make my skin very dry, but this product causes no dryness whatsoever while still being able to get rid of excess oil. The wash contains little exfoliating beads which feel pleasing against your skin, although I doubt they actually do anything much. They certainly haven't managed to get rid of the few blackheads around my nose, but I've yet to find an exfoliator which does. After using the wash my skin feels very clean, supple and not too tight, and it has never caused any irritation.

We all known that Simple is keen on natural products, which is great, but as a result the scent of this product is a little... unique. It's not unpleasant at all, but it's certainly not the fresh fruity scent that you might expect from a face wash. It just smells a bit like plastic. This doesn't really bother me, but if you're more a peach blossom and zingy lemon type of girl (or boy) this mightn't be the face wash for you.

This product only doesn't get five stars because it is, after all, a fairly standard face wash which gets your skin clean but doesn't do anything truly remarkable. It's a decent product and I certainly recommend it.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A good scrub at a good price

I actually bought this product as a mistake, but I have decided to review it anyway. So, there was a '3 for 2' offer on the Simple skincare products at Boots. I was in a bit of a rush and needed a cleanser, toner and moisturiser. I picked up my cleanser and toner and instead of picking up the oil balancing moisturiser I picked up this oil balancing facial scrub. I guess it was an easy mistake to make because the tubes are almost exactly the same. I need to be more aware when shopping and read what it says on the front of the packaging!

            *Packaging*
I really like the packaging of this facial scrub. The products of Simple's Oil Balancing range seem to be a lot more interesting than their usual green and white colours. The tube is a see-through blue colour, which fades to a darker blue towards the bottom. There is a blue and green line pattern which makes it look more attractive to the customer. On the front we are told the name of the brand and product and a brief description of what the product does and contains. On the back we are given a more detailed description and all the ingredients and how to use the product. Everything you need to know is on the tube. There is a flip-top lid which is easy to use. The tube stands on the lid so when the bottle is almost empty you can still get the last bit out.

            *Using The Product*
You just use this like any other facial scrub- apply to damp face and massage it onto the skin and then rinse. It's gentle enough to use daily, but I only use a scrub a few times a week. There is no fragrance to the scrub so it's suitable for those with sensitive skin.

            *The Results*
I'm very impressed with this. I didn't expect such good results. I thought it wouldn't exfoliate enough because it's for sensitive skin, but it surprised me. My face definitely feels smother and looks brighter after using this. It also keep my skin looking matte for longer.

            *Conclusion*
Even though I bought this as a mistake I am very impressed. Simple is a brand that never fails to amaze me. All their products are perfume and colour free and they contain nutrients to help keep your skin looking healthy. Simple's oil balancing facial scrub reminds me of Clinique's 7 Day Scrub but a lot cheaper! It only cost me about £3 or £4, and you get 75ml. I would recommend this to anyone with oily, combination or sensitive skin.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            A absolute must have.

Wondering around Boots a couple of weeks ago now, I came across a promotional offer in the Simple's range. I have to confess I very rarely go into Boots as I have always associated the shop with high pricing, so I was pleasantly surprised to find a huge range of products all reasonably priced as well as some lovely promotional offers.

I should say at this point that I would never be biased about a product on the basis of its brand name, it is however only natural to be drawn into trying new products from a brand you have had good experiences with in the past. This doesn't of course mean that they will always live up to expectation.

The promotional offer consisted of 3 simple products for the price of 2, which was handy as I had just run out simple's body wash (the only bodywash that seems to help my sensitive skin) so I was pleased to find it in amongst the simple products on offer. I decided to purchase two bottles of the bodywash as well as Simples Clear Skin Oil Balancing Facial Scrub.

            A BIT ABOUT SIMPLE

Simple's parent company is Simple Health & Beauty Group Ltd and their core business areas are skincare, toiletries and soap. Simple claims to be the leading brand for sensitive skin in the UK, and are continuing to grow. Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes are the biggest selling facial skincare product in the UK.

            Simple says:

            * They never use harsh chemicals, colours or perfumes.

            * Settle for only the purist possible ingredients.

            * Trust all the natural ingredients in their products.....even on the most sensitive on skin.

            * Natural beauty comes from goodness.

WHAT IS SIMPLE'S CLEAR SKIN OIL BALANCING FACIAL SCRUB?

Simple say that their Oil Balancing Facial Scrub is a perfect blend of active ingredients and exfoliating goodness to remove dead skin cells, dirt and impurities. They state that the product is clinically proven to reduce blackheads and blemishes in just 7 days. In fact simple go as far as to claim that their scrub can reduce the appearance of blackheads by up to 64% within the seven day time frame. Unusually for an exfoliater simple that theirs is gentle enough to use each day. Simple state that all their products are perfect for even the most sensitive of skin.

            PACKAGING, PRICING AND PURCHASING

The appearance of simples packaging is always very neutral in colouring, perhaps conveying its leaning toward natural ingredients through the use of colour. The 75ml tube appears as the picture above shows with its sea blue colouring. The packaging also contains all the necessary ingredients the consumer will want to know. You should expect to pay approximately between £3 and £4 for this product, from Boots, Superdrug or Tesco's.

            INGREDIENTS

Simple also boast some of the key ingredients on the packaging:

            (Skin Loving Nutrients)
            Witch Hazel helps reduce blemishes
Natural Zinc PCA gently absorbs excess oil
            Rice Powder exfoliates and smoothes

            (Vital Vitamins)
Vitamin E moisturises to improve skin condition
Pro-Vitamin B5 actively restores, softens and smoothes

            No Perfume, No Colour
No unnecessary or harsh chemicals so it won't upset your skin

            APPLICATION AND PRODUCT TEST

It is fair to say I have used many exfoliating products in the past with very little success, I have found that the ingredients used is often very harsh for my sensitive skin or the grit used to exfoliate has been very sharp, scratching my face. Therefore I was obviously cautious about using this product.

As I have explained before in other reviews, I do have particularly sensitive skin. I have suffered with out breaks of acne in the past and although I don't tend suffer so much now days, I still get the odd spot or two. I also suffer with millia (little white bumps under the skin usually around the eyes, also known as whiteheads) on my cheeks, whilst no one ever seems to notice these annoying little things, I am never the less frustrated by them at times, particularly when I wash my face and I can feel the bumpy texture. Although Simple do not make any claims about reducing the appearance of millia, millia is effectively just a blackhead that is more deep routed. Therefore theoretically the product should reduce this ailment.

Many people are unaware that acne can cause depression, though we won't all suffer with depression as a result of this, I am sure we are all in agreement that, acne, spots, blackheads and millia can all contribute to a lower self esteem. Therefore it isn't unreasonable to suggest a healthy skin care regime with products best suited to our skin type can be of real benefit in our lives.

            Application:

Apply a small amount to damp face and neck. Gently massage in circular movements with fingertips avoiding the eye area. Rinse away with plenty of water. Gentle enough to use each day.

Because simple claim that this product is gentle enough to use each day and that it can reduce the appearance of blackheads within a seven day time frame, I will be using the product once daily for a period of seven days to start off with. Simple doesn't state how long the product should be massaged into the face so I will be doing so for a period of 30 seconds to one minute per time.

            CONCLUSION

I really wasn't expecting such a huge improvement to my skin using this product. I was hoping for a small improvement but the product far reached my expectations. It has to be said I didn't have bad skin in the first place but those little blemishes always seem far worse to you than to anyone else.

I cannot recommend this product enough; It really has been an absolute god send in my skin care regime, my only disappointment now is I wish I had found it sooner.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

A lovely gentle but effective scrub

I bought this facial scrub as I've been a bit lazy with my skincare regime recently, and I felt I needed to get back into the habit of regular exfoliation. The only reason I chose this particular one was that I spotted it on a bargain shelf in Boots for just £1!

It comes in a light blue plastic tube which stands on it's lid so that the product is always ready to dispense from the tube and there's no need to spend ages squeezing it from one end of the tube to the other before you can use it. The lid has a flip top which fastens nice and tightly so shouldn't pose a problem if you wanted to take it travelling with you.

The scrub is a lotion type consistency with a smooth, creamy feel to it. When you first apply it to the skin it feels really cool and soothing on the skin. As you massage it into the skin you can feel the little grains in it, but they do not feel harsh or scratchy on the skin. The scrub has a scent of witch hazel but it's not strong or overpowering, and just gives it quite a fresh scent as you use it.

You don't need to use much at once as the scrub lathers slightly when you add water and it's easy to massage over the whole of the face and neck, so a little really goes a long way. It's easy to rinse off and instantly you can feel that your skin feels much smoother.

After using it my skin feels soft and smooth and really deeply cleansed. It easily removes all facial makeup without the need to pre-cleanse, and my skin feels like it's had a really good refreshing cleanse, which it really needs to keep it in top condition. It doesn't irritate my skin at all like some exfoliators do, and rather my skin feels soothed and calmed after using it.

After using it regularly 3 times a week my skin is looking so much brighter and healthier than it had done previously, and it feels much softer and smoother to the touch. I'm very impressed that such a gentle exfoliator could give such great results, and I may try this one again, even at the usual price of £3.75.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

Great facial scrub for oily and combination skins

Being a 'sufferer' of combination skin, finding skincare products that work to effectively tackle oiliness without bringing the drier areas of your face out in a flaky panic is often a difficult and almost impossible task. Like most combination skin people, I suffer from an oily t-zone, particularly on the forehead but also around the nose and chin area, but find that my cheeks can easily become quite dry. Most products designed for oily skin I find can be way too harsh for my skin and strip the drier patches of the moisture it so desperately needs. Simple have produced a range targeted at those with oily / combination skin which is gentle enough for everyday use, while still being effective at reducing oiliness. The range includes a cleanser, moisturiser, and the Clear Skin Oil Balancing Facial Scrub, to gently exfoliate and remove dead skin cells while at the same time targeting oil and combating breakouts.

Simple pride themselves on not adding any harsh chemicals, fragrances or colours to their products and attempt to use the purest ingredients, making their products suitable for the most sensitive of skins. Simple is almost 50 years old, having produced their first perfume and colour free soap way back in 1960 and now has an extensive range of skincare products including a men's range, baby range, sun care, anti-aging products, haircare, and oil balancing. Their tagline is "We believe in Goodness" and the whole feel of the range places the emphasis on natural, from the ingredients used, to the green and white colour scheme.

Exfoliating is one of the most important steps in a skincare routine and one that is often neglected due to the cleanse-tone-moisturise 3 step routine that we all learn as little girls. But as the dead skin cells build up, it can leave your face looking dull and your skin tired and can even lead to breakouts. Regular and gentle exfoliation ensures that the skin renews itself regularly and leaves the complexion fresh, clear and glowing and in my opinion is one of the most important steps in your skin care routine. In fact, because of the great results that exfoliating gives, it's very easy to become a little obsessed and addictive about it - one of my friends recently asked me if I thought it was ok to list exfoliating as one of her hobbies on her CV! I think she was joking...!

I bought this facial scrub about a month ago when I had been suffering from a mini breakout from the heaps of stage makeup I had been wearing during a show which had clogged my pores. The oiliness was back with a vengeance on the forehead and come along to join him were 3 lovely red spots - 2 on the forehead and one on the chin - and a couple of mini blackheads. Simple claim that this facial scrub will reduce blackheads by 64% in just 7 days - quite a bold claim and one that drew me to the product. I was also attracted to the scrub when I saw it contained Witch Hazel which is a natural anti-bacterial - if there's one thing I remember from my teens, it's how effective Witch Hazel is in calming down red spots and irritations on the skin, so this seemed like exactly what I was looking for to get my skin back to normal.

The product also cites on its list of ingredients natural zinc, which is renowned for its ability to absorb excess oil, and rice powder as the exfoliating ingredient, which soothes and softens the skin, making this a gentle but effective product. It also contains vitamin E and Pro-vitamin B5, both of which aid healthy skin.

The product comes in a small 75ml plastic tube which will set you back around £3.75 from Boots and has a bit more of a funky packaging style than Simple's usual ranges, using a bright turquoise blue and white colour scheme. It stands up on its flip top lid, meaning that it's really easy to dispense as the liquid naturally falls to the bottom. To use, you simply squeeze out just a 20p sized blob and massage gently over a damp face for about a minute before rinsing thoroughly with warm water. When you squeeze the scrub onto your fingers it feels silky and soothing instantly. Although there is no fragrance added, you can smell a faint whiff of Witch Hazel, which gives it a soothing but slightly medicinal feel. As you massage it over your face you can feel the exfoliating grains which are slightly bigger than lots of exfoliators I've used, but seem somewhat softer, meaning that it gives a very gentle exfoliating effect and won't irritate the skin. Simple claim that it's so gentle that it is suitable for everyday use, and if my skin feels like it's about to break out I do use it daily and find it's more than gentle enough to not irritate my skin. However, generally I use this 2 or 3 times a week as I don't normally feel it's necessary to use a scrub more often than that. It feels quite cooling and soothing as you massage it and it is a good cleanser as well as a scrub, removing makeup and dirt effectively. The big test of how well something has cleansed for me is when I use my toner afterwards to see if it manages to remove any dirt the cleanser has left behind - well full marks here! Not a spec of dirt left, so I often use this in place of a cleanser, making this a good 2 in 1 product.

I love the way that Simple's scrub leaves my skin feeling - unlike lots of scrubs it actually works really well to soften my skin, leaving it smooth and strokeable, and without feeling like I need to run to apply the moisturiser. The Witch Hazel works effectively to reduce existing spots and I found it worked especially well on reducing redness. Despite being initially sceptical of the bold claim about reducing blackheads, I did find it effective in this area, although I'm not a huge blackhead sufferer. After about a week of using this scrub daily my red spots had disappeared, blackheads had vanished, and the oiliness on my forehead had been neutralised without drying out the rest of my face. It worked well to control the shine throughout the day as well, the Witch Hazel having a mattifying effect on any oil. But what I was most impressed with was how gentle the product was on my skin. Unlike some other products designed for oily skin, it didn't seem to strip the skin of its natural oils and dry it out - rather it works to absorb the excess oil and nourish the skin, leaving the skin feeling soft and looking clean and fresh. I like to use this as part of my morning routine to ensure my skin is fresh and clean for the day ahead.

Other products which Simple recommend using with the facial scrub are the Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash and the Oil Balancing Moisturiser. For very oily skin I would imagine these will be lifesavers, but for me, I find that with my combination skin, just breaking out the facial scrub if things are getting a bit oily is more than enough to do the trick.

                Summary

I love this product. Simple seem to have really got to grips with what oily / combination skin needs and created a product that is effective but gentle. Premium brands like Clinique could learn a lot from Simple, as I found their products for oily skin just seemed to strip the natural oil out of mine and dry it out. This scrub has helped me out of a bad patch, cleared my complexion, and is one I will always turn to when I feel a dreaded breakout coming on. I thoroughly recommend this product for anyone who suffers from oily or combination skin - at £3.75 it's well worth a try. Simples, as our friend from Compare the Meerkat would say!

                  The 'Simple' Company

Simple has been around now for almost fifty years and has the proud claim that they produced the first perfume and colour free soap to be recommended by doctors for people with sensitive skin. Their tag line "We believe in goodness" runs true through all their products which are free from harsh chemicals and added colours and perfumes.

                  Why Exfoliate

Exfoliation is the removal of dead skin cells on the skin's outermost surface, and has been used for many years to help maintain the skin. Regular exfoliation prevents the build up of the dead skin cells which can result in the skin looking dull and lifeless and breakouts of spots.

                  The Science Bit

Of the ingredients listed below the really important ones are Witch Hazel (a natural anti-bacterial and good for reducing blemishes), Natural Zinc PCA (Absorbs excess oil), Rice powder (to exfoliate and smooth the skin), Vitamin E (a moisturiser) and Pro-Vitamin B5 (restores, softens and smoothes the skin). As with all their products there are no added colours or perfumes so if you have sensitive skin like mine this product is perfect.

                  Ingredients

Aqua, Propylene Glycol, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerin, Oryza Sativa Germ Powder, Polyethylene, Dimethicone, Panthenol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Cetearyl Alcohol, Zinc PCA, PEG-100 Stearate, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Methylparaben, Benzophenone-4, Camellia Sinensis Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana Distillate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Dipropylene Glycol, Phytosphingosine, Sodium Benzoate, Anthemis Nobilis Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia Oil, Sorbic Acid

                  The Look

This white silky cream comes in a pale blue 75ml tube that stands on it end so you can squeeze out every last drop. The pale blue colour with simple wispy lines along the front conveys images of purity and cleansing that are very eye-catching when on the shelf.

                  Does it work?

A statement on the tube claims "64% less blackheads in 7 days". I guess that is a little hard to test, but after 2 weeks of using the cream I was pleasantly surprised to find the results were noticeable. I have always been quite lucky in that I don't really suffer from spots, but I do have blackheads across my nose that have significantly cleared up (though not altogether gone) and my skin feels soft and looks healthy. To use the cream a small blob is applied and massaged into the skin for around one minute. Almost immediately your skin feels cooler and calmed and the exfoliating effect of the rice powder makes your skin tingle. I've also found that it's great for removing make-up after a night out, leaving your skin feeling refreshed in the morning even if your body doesn't.

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

A simple way to lovely skin

                  Clear Your Skin

I came across this product last weekend when my daughter and I were doing some shopping in town. I am a fan of skin products as we all know when you get to a certain age things don't seem to be as perfect as they used to be. My skin is always usually pretty good but I still used toners and face masks when I can to give my skin a little helping hand. I don't often wear make up either which helps my skin to look more natural, I only wear abit if I am going to a special occasions and even that is a very little amount. My daughter also likes all these products and as she uses a lot more make up than I do she does buy a lot of facial scrubs and toners. As we browsed through Boots on Saturday we came across this scrub from Simple. I am a fan of the company and have tried many other products of theirs before so thought that this wouldn't be disappointing. As my daughter has slightly sensitive skin she picked up this as it clearly said on the tube that it is perfect for even sensitive skin and has no harsh chemicals. After we got back from shopping, we both tried the product and were not disappointed by the reputation Simple has for its products.

                  Simple

As previously mentioned my daughter and I both use Simple products are have been impressed with them in the past. For those who do not know about this company, Simple is a leading brand in the UK and are called Simple Health and Beauty Group Ltd. They provide products covering health for your skin such as toiletries, skincare products and soaps. Simple have connections with the biggest retailers in the UK such as Boots, Superdrug and all supermarkets so you cannot miss their products. They have a high standard of selling and a very good reputation for selling good quality products.

The Simple Company have a motto if you like to call it that on their products and their website which is-

Simple Says- never use harsh chemicals, colours and perfumes.

                  - Settle for only the purest possible ingredients
                  - Natural beauty comes from goodness
                  - Trust the natural goodness in our products and even the most sensitive of skin can use them.

Their tagline which is used everywhere is- 'We believe in Goodness'.

The Simple Company was founded in 2000 so they are quite new compared to other leading brands but they follow the theme of natural beauty and goodness which I think is a very catchy theme.

                  The Product

                  Looks and First Impression

When we found the tube on the shelf I was attracted by the bright colour of it. The bottle or tube is a kind of sea blue colour which goes with the natural good ness theme and it made me pick it up out of all the other facial scrubs on the shelf. It comes in a 75ml tube which is in the flexible plastic so it is easy to squeeze out like many of their products. The company Simple logo is found on the front in slightly bold letters and is clear and easy to read which is good for those who already are familiar with the company to find their range.

There is not too much information on the front so it is not bombarding you with too much at once. I liked what it did include on the front though, the clear writing of- 'Oil Balancing facial Scrub' gives you a simple and clear description of what it is. There is also an ingredient name included at the top of the tube which is helpful in making people choose the product and promote their natural awareness. 'Witch Hazel Goodness, for healthy clear skin', this to me sounds refreshing, healthy and natural, as Hazel is very good for you.

Although I do not suffer with blackheads for those that do the tube offers another method to pull you in which is that they have a fact at the top saying that - '64% less blackheads in 7 days? I know this would be an ideal advantage to many teens and others who need to get rid of blackheads.

When I turned the tube over it had a few more reasons why you should buy the product. Promoting the goodness of natural health it clearly states that it includes Witch Hazel which I said previously is good for the skin and blemishes and it has a list of all the vitamins included which really helped me decided that this was a good product.

                  Using the Product

That evening when my daughter and I tried some we were very impressed.
As I squeezed out some of the product I instantly felt how cold and soothing it was on my hands. The liquid is silky and creamy and when I applied this to my face you feel an instant cooling on your skin. Has the product has no harsh chemicals it was very gentle and calming. The product is easily rinsed off with some cool water and I instantly felt that my skin was fresh and clean.

                  Ingredients

Aqua, Propylene Glycol, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerin, Oryza Sativa Germ Powder, Polyethylene, Dimethicone, Panthenol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Cetearyl Alcohol, Zinc PCA, PEG-100 Stearate, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Methylparaben, Benzophenone-4, Camellia Sinensis Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana Distillate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Dipropylene Glycol, Phytosphingosine, Sodium Benzoate, Anthemis Nobilis Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia Oil, Sorbic Acid

As mentioned on the back of the product it explains what some of the ingredients can do for the skin. The product contains natural Zinc which absorbs all the excess oil on the skin. The witch hazel helps reduce all of those blemishes and the rice powder which sounds odd I know, is the part that helps with the soothing and makes your skin feel soft and fresh.

                  Why Choose Oil Cleansing?

Oil cleansing provides you with clear, refreshing skin and helps fight against blackheads, blemishes, cysts and pimples. Washing away the dead cells and oil from the skin brings up the natural new clean skin and keeps those nasty spots away. The oil method is a great way to go and this product does not take away all of your oil as some products do. This product balances the oil levels so keeps the healthy oil needed and gets rid of the excess you don't need.

                  Results

Both my daughter and I were very impressed and happy with this product.
After using this, every day for two weeks my skins feels much cleaner and softer. My daughter says it is brilliant for cleaning dirt and removing any make up left on your skin. It leaves your face feeling soft, glowing and healthy and I would defiantly recommend this product to everyone even those who do not get blackheads like me. The product does more than that and it can just help you keep your skin in a tip top condition. I generally use this at night time before I go to bed to remove the dirt from the day.

                  Other similar products

Simple do a whole range of these products which can be found on their own website and I also had a look at the range on the Boots website. The Exfoliating Was comes in a 150ml tube and also does the same as this if you wanted another product to go with this one.

                  Availability

As mentioned before Simple products are one of the UK's leading brands so they are very accessible in local shops and supermarkets. I brought the 75ml tube in Boots for £3.75, but you can find it on the Simple website found at the bottom of this page and super markets such as Tesco's and Asda.

                    Disadvantages

Great facial scrub which reduces appearance of blackhead

I've been using the Simple range cleanser and toner for a while now and I needed some new eye make up remover and a face wash and so thought I'd get the same brand to complement each other. I went to Boots and they had a 3 for 2 offer on the Simple range and I saw this clear skin oil balancing scrub and thought I'd get that as well as I could do with a new scrub.

                    The Brand

Simple has been around for almost 50 years and pride themselves on using no perfumes or colours in their products to make their range suitable for even sensitive skin. They first started producing soap and then moved onto skincare products and now have bath and body products along with a men's range.

                    Packaging

It comes in a 75ml tube that sits on it's lid so it's easy to squeeze the product out. It's an opaque blue colour so you can see how much you have remaining. Its states the product name with Witch hazel goodness for healthy clear skin and controls shine written underneath, it also says that you can have 64% less blackheads in 7 days.

On the back it states it contains 3 skin loving nutrients; Witch Hazel which helps reduce blemishes, natural Zinc Pca which gently absorbs excess oil and rice powder which exfoliates and smoothes. It also has 2 vital vitamins; Vitamin E which moisturises to improve skin condition and Pro Vitamin B5 which actively restores, softens and smoothes. It also contains no perfumes or colours and is great for sensitive skin.

                    The product

They recommend to apply a small amount to damp skin and gently massage in small circular motions then rinse away. They also say it is gentle enough to use everyday.

The product is like a thin white cream with no smell at all. I use about a 10p piece blob and rub over my face, it feels like it is really scrubbing off my dead skin cells although to me it does feel a little harsh to be used everyday so I have been using every other day. It rinses off easily and my face looks healthy and glowing.

                    Results

I have been having some bad skin days recently and suffering some breakouts, this product does appear to have calmed this down and I haven't had a new spot for weeks. My skin does feel lovely and smooth and I would say that I have a healthy glow. The big claim for me was the blackhead one as I do suffer with these on my nose and I'm really impressed, as my pores do look so much clearer. It leaves my complexion looking great and doesn't leave my skin feeling tight or dry at all, although I would still recommend moisturising after use.

I would really recommend this product if you suffer with blackheads as it has really improved the appearance of mine and left all the rest of my skin looking better too. I believe it was just under £4 in Boots, which for a 75ml tube may not be great value but they often have offers like 3 for 2 on so it's worth waiting til then.
