Normally I either love a product or I don't but not with this one, I'm in two minds but I just know it is not enough for my skin!
Price and Amount
I purchased this face mask as I had run out of my Clinique Turnaround exfoliating face mask. I wanted to try something new, and something much cheaper! The brand of Simple were on 3 for 2 at the time in Boots so I purchased a couple of other items that I like and have tried before. This item by itself is £3.99 for 75ml which in my opinion is a fantastic price but 75ml is not the largest tube I've seen, other face masks I have had have been 100ml.
So for price and amount I give this face mask 8/10.
What I like about Simple is that I know I have no problems with their products on my skin. I love that they have no artificial perfumes or colours within their products and that they are great for sensitive skins like mine.
Tube/Packaging and Instructions
I like the tube that this face mask comes in, it is very easy to squeeze out the desired amount. However the instructions on its use is very limited on the packaging. It almost seems like the tube should have come in a box which had an instructions manual with it, but it didn't. The tube states to apply it onto thoroughly cleansed skin and to leave on for 3 minutes and then rinse off with water. However I like to know whether you are supposed to put on a generous layer of it or just a thin layer of it. So I have used it according to what feels right to me and that is putting enough on so I can see it otherwise I don't feel like I have enough on for it to do its job. I don't use a face mask everyday just one a week (if I remember and have time) so I like to really feel like I have had the face mask on!
So based on the ease of the tube/packaging and instructions I give the face mask 7/10 (it has lost marks for its poor instructions).
What Is This Face Mask Doing For My Skin?
It is apparently deep cleansing which involves drawing impurities out of the skin, cleansing, and helping to eliminate dead skin cells. The ingredients used for this include natural clay, seaweed extract and bisabolol (which sounds very interesting!)
Well firstly natural clay is used in many face masks. It firstly conditions and nourishes the skin, and it extracts excess oil as well as impurities from the surface of the skin. Natural clay has also been described as giving the skin a natural glow. The face mask does have an iridescent look to it, perhaps the natural clay helps to create this. I did certainly notice that my skin looked slightly brighter after using the mask.
The second main ingredient of seaweed extract I have had in other face masks like when I tried the BB Seaweed Fresh Face Mask from Lush. I have also tried seaweed in a Body Shop face mask. So it is obviously a popular ingredient in face masks. Seaweed supposedly helps to clarify the skin as well as refresh the skin and draw out impurities. I would suggest that it is perhaps this ingredient that makes the face mask very cold when putting it on. I do like the coldness of it as it makes it feel more like you are putting on a fresh face mask.
The last main ingredient of the face mask of bisabolol is a new ingredient to me, I have not heard of it in anything else I have tried before. Having read up on this ingredient it is a main component of an essential oil from the chamomile plant. It helps to reduce flaking on a dry skin, and restore suppleness. Some important factors of this ingredient is that it is anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory (great for redness or spots), and it is a non-allergen. I would say from my use of the mask that I did notice that the flakiness around my nose was reduced after using it.
So hearing how great these ingredients sound I would give the ingredients of the face mask 7/10 (this is because they sound good, but yet they are not ingredients which suggest anything super fantastic over ingredients used in other face masks).
The Effects of the Ingredients
So overall the ingredients sound great and yes I did notice the effects of some of these. I noticed that my skin felt refreshed and soft after use. I also felt that it looked a little bit brighter and it prevented flakiness around my nose. But I did not notice any substantial results that are worth raving about sadly. It didn't seem to prevent oiliness in my t-zone and my skin didn't feel ultra revived after using it. I also have quite visible blackheads around my nose (and despite being realistic and knowing that a face mask doesn't just get rid of these) I didn't feel like it drew impurities out from my skin in order to help these. I think a face mask needs to be on for much longer or have some sort of exfoliating element to help this. I do not think that such a face mask can be called deep cleansing when it doesn't seem to be in the slightest. I also have some redness from spots and it didn't alleviate this in the slightest. But I did feel the face mask did more when I used my muslin cloth to take it off. But that is the benefits of the muslin cloth helping to exfoliate the skin, not the face mask.
So based on the effects of the results I would rate the face mask 6/10.
The face mask when squeezed out of the tube is very iridescent. It is not particularly thick and once blended it goes very thin very quickly. It went onto my skin very easily and it blended over my face nicely. After 3 minutes I removed it (as the instructions stated), it came off relatively easily with warm water, but I have ended up now using my muslin cloth as I think this takes it off more thoroughly and this helps to mildly exfoliate the skin too.
But I have not been blown away by the effects of this mask. The Clinique Turnaround Facial Mask I used to use I really felt did something for my skin, I could see improvements with my skin whilst using it. My skin looked brighter, it completely reduced any flakiness or dry patches on the skin and it made my skin look and feel clarified. However this facial mask was suggested to act like microdermabrasion (a technology that helps to buff away the surface layer of the skin) so it did do much more than a standard face mask. But I just don't feel that this mask being on for just three minutes can be doing a lot for the skin. I haven't noticed any dramatic changes in my skin like I did with the Clinique mask. Perhaps I am asking too much from a £3.99 face mask which is for sensitive skins.
I do usually love the face mask experience, popping it on and relaxing for more than ten minutes with it on. Whereas having this face mask on for just three minutes means it is barely worth me going to relax with it on as by the time I have sat down it is time to get up again to remove it. So no it is not a relaxing experience having this face mask on.
So based on the face mask experience I would have to give this face mask 3/10 (I give it 3 because like I said earlier I do like the cold fresh feel of it which is worth something).
Perhaps I am too used to face masks from premium brands like Clinique which are expensive which I seem to get great results from suggesting the money is well spent. Whereas with this face mask it is incredibly cheap at £3.99 and it gives some results, but as I said nothing mind blowing. Perhaps I should be satisfied with that but as I like my face mask experience which I do not find that this face mask gives I will from now on try a face mask from Lush again (as I remember fond memories of those). I do think in some respects that this face mask is falsely advertised when it called a deep cleaning face mask. It certainly isn't deep cleansing. Perhaps as the face mask and brand of Simple is for sensitive skins it can only go so far to be deep cleansing without being an irritant for sensitive skins. However it shouldn't be called a deep cleansing mask then as this does not compare in the slightest to other so called deep cleansing masks I have used. I would recommend this mask to somebody who just wants a quick-fix and refreshing mask to give them soft skin and for somebody who doesn't have the time to spend leaving on a 10-15 minute mask. Plus at £3.99 you are not breaking the bank, especially if you use other products from Simple and if you can benefit from buying face mask in a 3 for 2 offer. Perhaps another suggestion for this mask is for a teenager's skin who doesn't have any problems with spots, just to refresh the skin and do slightly more than a regular cleanser. But certainly for somebody past teenage years I do not think that this face mask does enough sadly.
So rating this face mask on every aspect it would be 5/10.
I will not be buying it again. It should teach me not to get sucked into 3 for 2 offers and pick up something that is on the spur of the moment. I am sure that there is a mid way face mask though between this one and the Clinique one I tried. It is just trying to find it, or sticking to the face masks from Lush.
I am a big fan of the Simple skincare range, which I've used since the age of twelve. I have really sensitive skin and this range is one of the few that I can use without my skin going red and itchy. Simple was first introduced with the aim of creating skincare suitable for sensitive skin, without perfume and colour. The first product was colour and perfume free soap, released in 1960, while the cleanse, tone and moisturise routine was brought out in 1978. Simple was never one of the trendier brands, but in the last couple of years I've noticed that it's undergone something of a resurgence - I'm always seeing the brand advertised in magazines or in-store, and they've revamped their range with a new look and a number of new products. Not bad considering they're over 50 years old.
Simple skincare is widely available in Boots, Superdrug, discount stores and supermarkets, but it was in Savers that I decided to purchase the Kind to Skin Deep Cleansing Face Mask one day recently. I really like Lush's range of fresh face masks, but they are expensive so I generally only get one when I have 5 black pots to take back in exchange. This Simple face mask was only £1 so seemed like a bargain. The white sachet with green writing fits in with the Simple branding and the packet states that this mask contains vitamin goodness for naturally healthy skin. It contains 2 vital vitamins: pro-vitamin B5 to actively restore, soften and smooth, and vitamin E to moisturise, as well as skin loving nutrients: natural clay to detox and purify, seaweed extract to cleanse, soothe and soften, and bisabolol (nope, I don't know what this is either) to soothe and calm. The mask has been dermatologically tested and approved, and contains no harsh chemicals to upset your skin. It is claimed that the product will draw out deep down dirt and eliminate dead skin cells.
The instructions state that you should apply the mask to thoroughly cleansed skin avoiding the eye area, and leave for three minutes before rinsing thoroughly with clean water. The mask should be used once a week on dry skin and twice on normal to oily skin. However, though my skin is slightly oily, I can rarely be bothered to use a face mask more than once a week!
The sachet is easy to tear open without the use of scissors and it's easy to get the product out, although it can be slightly messy. The mask is white in colour and quite thick which means it shouldn't drip everywhere. I found it quite easy to spread a layer on my face and I didn't use the entire product - in fact it lasted me for three uses.
The mask doesn't have much of a smell, only a very faint 'fresh' scent, and it doesn't irritate my skin at all which is only what I expect from a Simple product. Unlike other masks I've used in the past, it didn't dry hard on my face, but was still soft when I came to wash it off. In fact, after washing off the mask, it didn't seem to have had any effect at all - beyond the fact that my face felt clean and fresh, there wasn't much of a difference in the way my skin felt. I sprayed some toner on my skin and applied my usual moisturiser before going to bed.
Despite thinking this mask hadn't had much of an effect, I was soon proved wrong. The next, day, I got up, got ready and went to work as usual, feeling tired because I hadn't had much sleep the night before. Throughout the day if I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror I was constantly surprised to see that I looked refreshed and awake, and my skin looked in really good condition, radiant and even-toned. I was trying to work out how this had happened - normally I can really see the effects of tiredness on my skin - but then I remembered I had used this face mask the night before!
My skin looked better for a good few days before it seemed to go back to normal. As previously mentioned, I got three days' use out of this face mask so it lasted me three weeks in a row.
I really can't fault this face mask in any way. It's cheap, suitable for sensitive skin, and really effective. I can't give it any less than five stars and I will certainly be buying it again. It also comes in a 75ml tube for £3.99 which offers even better value, and I think I'll go for this one next.
I bought this on the weekend, I love using facemasks but I rarely have the time to wait the full 15 minutes that a lot of them require, this one only needs to be left for 3 minutes which made it sound ideal. I bought a sachet which contans 15ml from Tesco and it costs £1. I have seen this in a larger tube too which contains 75ml and costs around £4.
The mask is described as 'deep cleansing', it contains clay, seaweed extract, pro-vitamin B5 and vitamin E. It is said to draw out impurities from deep within the pores, remove dirt and cleanse and exfoliate while helping to protect your skin and keeping it in good condition. Like other Simple products the mask is not perfumed or coloured.
To use the mask you need to cleanse your skin first. I always use just water before I use a mask. You then apply to dry skin avoiding the eye area. Once the mask is applied you then leave for 3 minutes. One thing I did notice with this mask is I didn't need to use the full sachet, because of this I simply folded the top of the sachet down and stood upright on my bathroom window ready for use again later in the week. The mask can be used twice weekly, this is recommended for best results.
The mask itself didn't smell particularly nice, it smelt of clay. The mask was really creamy and easy to apply it spread really easily over my skin. The mask did tingle on application to the skin. This mask doesn't dry either, I prefer this as some masks that dry I find are too harsh on my skin. After 3 minutes had passed I rinsed the mask off as directed using warm water. The mask did take a little while to remove, I found it easy to use a flannel as using only my fingers seemed to spread the mask more and to cover my sink with a layer of white clay.
After the mask was rinsed off I finished with a splash of cool water and then dried my face. My skin felt really clean and looked really healthy. I could feel when the 'gunky' pores around my nose had been cleansed. I have dry skin and a few blocked pores on my nose normally a lot of masks leave my skin tight and uncomfortable, this one didn't. I have used this again and I am really pleased with the results, my skin felt conditioned and soft.
I would give this 5 out of 5.
I'm a big fan of Simple products with their no colour and no perfume products-perfect for sensitive skin. I have never had a problem with any of their products and this face mask is no exception.
As will all their products the mask contains essential vitamins and nutrients to help maintain healthy skin including natural clay and seaweed extract.
The mask it self is a clay one which you apply to your face, leave for some time to work its magic and then wash off. It is white as I expect from Simple products and the only smell is that of the natural clay and seaweed. My one complaint is that the mask is quite runny for this type of product. It is fine to spread over your face and you can put on a layer without any problem but I find that if I try and use a thicker layer as I prefer to with face masks it is not possible. Having said that it spreads easily so you find you use relatively little so it does work out fairly economically.
Having the mask on your face while it drys a bit is lovely and you can practically feel it making a difference to your skin. It recommends that you leave it on for 3 minutes but I usually leave it on for about 5.
The thinner texture of the mask makes removing it much easier than other mud masks I have tried and it washes of quickly and cleanly.
My skin is left feeling throughly cleansed and looking wonderful. I always follow any cleansing treatment with Simple Moisturiser although even without using any my skin feels soft to the touch.
I absolutely loved this product and would recommend it to anyone who wants a quick to use and effective face mask.
I was going through my try every face mask phase, hoping that something would be a miracle worker and make me have a beautiful face! I picked up this brand whilst it was on special offer in Tescos, and I'm really glad I did as it is the best face mask I have tried, and will continue to buy it (although I will stock up while on special offer as it is cheaper that way).
Simple face mask comes in a signature white pack with green writing on. All their products are packaged this way and indicate a nice easy 'simple' wholesome lifestyle. The product is in a tube which is easy to squeeze out. To make sure you get the all the product out you can squeeze it to the very end easily, which is definitely a good thing. The amount of products I buy where you have to leave half the product in the end of the tube!
The product is not strong smelling, which is nice, it smells a bit like plain showergel. It is smooth and creamy and easy to spread over your face. It is a wash on wash off product, which I never thought I would like, but it actually works very well. I leave it on about ten minutes, then wash it off and it leaves my skin shiney and smooth, and it feels spot free. It doesn't leave my skin tight and stripped but this feels much nicer.
I would definitely recommend this product as it is a great face mask and leaves your skin feeling fantastic. Stock up while its on special offer, otherwise it doesn't work out as the cheapest of face masks.
This is one of my favourite face masks and try and use this every week if I can as it really keeps skin healthy and radiant. It comes in a plastic packet rather than a bottle and you can usually get a couple of applications out of it. It is a deep cleansing face mask so is good if you suffer from blocked pores or just want to give skin a deep nourishing clean. Some of the ingredients are pro vitamin b5 which is in many of their products and this helps to soothe skin and soften the skin aswell. Vitamin E really helps to put vitamins back into the skin and moisturise the skin. This vitamin is used a lot in simple skin care and really does help to hydrate the skin. The main ingrdient of this face mask is natural clay and this is the colour of the mask aswell, clay helps to detoxify and purify skin and is a natural cleanser. As always in simple products there is no fragrance, perfume or soap and no alcohol or chemicals which can aggrevate the skin. I simply wash my face as usual and pat dry then apply the mask onto cleansed skin and put quite a thick layer all over my face, making sure to not get it inot my eyes, nose or mouth. I usually leave it on for about 10 mins to really get the ingredients to work and nourish deep down, then simply wash away with warm makeup. The key to this is to then splash face with cold water as this helps to re close the pores and ensure no dirts gets back into the pores. A fantastic face mask, as my skin stays clear, smooth, looks brighter and feel softer, it is a miracle worker!
I use a lot of Simple facial products and always find them to be very effective and kind to my skin, which is a bonus as I suffer from dry skin regularly.

***DIRECTIONS FOR USE***
Apply to thoroughly cleansed skin avoiding the eye area. For this I normally use a Simple facial wipe and then Simple Cleansing lotion to ensure a through clean before applying the mask. It doesn't tell you how thick/thin this mask should be applied but I always apply a thin layer, but enough so you can see the mask on the face. I apply this mask using gentle strokes, avoiding the eye area of course.
After leaving the mask on for 3 minutes rinse off with water. I always find that some damp/wet cotton wool pads remove the mask very easily and then a final splash of water to the face to get rid of any mask on your face which you may have missed. When leaving the mask on for 3 minutes, it didn't even feel like I had a mask on as it didn't make my face tingle and I didn't have any other effects whilst the mask was on which is good.
The mask itself doesn't smell too pleasant as its not perfumed as coloured, but it didn't smell unpleasant either. It's a smell I could put up for 3 minutes once a week, which is the recommended use for this mask if you have dry skin. If you have normal/oily skin, its recommended you sue this twice weekly. The mask is a white colour and just looks like a white moisturiser but probably a bit thicker. It goes onto the face easily and easily washes off using damp/wet cotton wool pads.
As I was removing the mask with the cotton wool pads I did notice more dirt coming off my face which made me cringe, but as it was now on the cotton wool pad and not my face I figured this was a good thing! My face immediately felt much more cleaner and softer as well. After this mask, I did pat my skin dry and did apply moisturiser which has made me skin even more softer and it feels thoroughly clean, a lot cleaner than it did before.
This mask didn't leave my skin feeling dry & tight like some other masks have done in the past. I was very pleased with the results and would not hesitate using this mask again. In fact it has become part of my facial routine and I will now be using this mask once weekly as recommended.
***WHERE TO BUY/PRICE***
This cost me approx £3.59 from Superdrug, but is also available in boots for around the same price. You can also buy it from good supermarkets and pharmacies as well. This is normally located with the other Simple Facial skincare products.
***OTHER PRODUCTS IN THE RANGE***
Simple do a large range of skin-care including Facial Wipes, Toners, Moisturisers, Eye Balms, Facial Washes, Masks, Exfoliating Scrubs and a lot more. This is a very popular well known range due to the products having no added colour or perfume, which means the products are kinder to the skin.
Simple cosmetics are brilliant for those amongst us who have sensitive skin as they contain no perfume and no colouring. The Simple Deep Cleansing Face Mask is no exception to this! This review is my personal opinion of this product, I hope it is helpful to you!
This deep cleansing face mask contains natural clay which aims to detox and purify skin; seaweed extract which cleanses, soothes and softens skin and is pH balance so "works in harmony with your skin". According to the information on the back of the pack it aims to reveal fresh bright loking skin by removing deep down dirt and eliminating dead skin cells
HOW GOOD IS THIS PRODUCT?
I have combination skin and like many people in the UK the weather has a massive effect on my skin. So once or twice a week I try to use a face mask to freshen up my skin and help unclog any pores. I usually by the little 99p face masks but this time the Simple Deep Cleansing Face Mask caught my eye because a) it was on promotion in tescos (£1 off i think) and b) it was in a 75ml container so should last a while.
So after severe cleansing (e.g make up and eye make up off!), I pin back my hair and apply the face mask all over my face with my fingertips using small circular motions. The pack does not say how thick it has to go on but after some experimentation I have found that a thin layer (roughly the same amount used for moisturising) is plenty, although do not rub it in too much ensure it can still b seen. So once it is all on your face will look shiny and for a tiny little 3 minutes you can relax! It does not harden like other face masks, it sometimes tingles ever so slightly. After 3 minutes you can wash the mask off your face using fresh clean water i find washing it all off then splashing your face with cold water helps to create a lasting effect
The face mask - as stated on packaging - leaves face feeling fresh, makes skin look brighter and helps to close pores. I find it is great to use last thing at night as this means you are probably not going to put anymore makeup or products on your face so it gives your skin time to completely relax and be refreshed!
It comes in either a 75ml container or a small 15ml pack (as featured in picture). Available in most supermarkets and boots for under £3. Well worth the buy for fresh looking skin!
Due to it not having any perfume in it, I find that it does not have the nicest smell...it is not a bad smell by any means its just not overly nice!
I recommend this product for all skin types. Reasonable price, active benefits in ingredients and it has made me tempted to try some more of the simple skincare range
Thank you for reading my review
