Advantages: Gentle enough for daily use, good for use as a makeup remover, Soap free
Disadvantages: A little pricey for 150ml, but only need a little so should last a while
I'm really fussy when it comes to what I use to remove my makeup with. Face wipes never get makeup off completely, Cleansing Milks/lotions I find to be to thick, heavy and inconvenient, oil-based cleansers make me fear mass breakouts, and recently I decided using an alcohol based cleanser and cotton wool too harsh to use on a daily basis. However is still required for keeping my skin spot-free. Therefore my only other option is using a face wash, but one that is gentle enough to not dry out my skin.
So that's how I came across this product. The Simple Moisturising Face Wash comes in the classic Simple white and green packaging. I know some people have complained that their packaging is boring, but it's more interesting than plain black and white. Besides, I'm more interested in how well the product works not the packaging it comes in. You get 150ml of product for around five pounds. This does seem a bit expensive but Simple usually have a 3 for 2 offer on, so it's not as bad. Plus I can imagine it would last a while as you don't need a lot. Also it is perfume, colour and 100% soap free. Not to mention the usual combination of several skin loving nutrients and vitamins. Sounds good?
I read a few people complaining that 1, it didn't remove their makeup like they thought it would, and 2, it didn't do anything other than wash their face. In response to the whole none-makeup removing thing, I just thought is say that I wear several products on a daily basis. This usually consists of foundation, concealer, powder, eyeliner, and mascara. I don't use any other product to remove my makeup other than this face wash and I'd say it does a very good job at doing this. And I know it does because I usually use a spot fighting cleanser to tone my face afterwards, and theres rarely ever a trace of makeup on the cotton wool pad. The way I use this face wash, is I quickly wash my face with warm water first, and then lather a 10p sized amount of the Simple face wash into the palms of my hands and gently rub all over my previously wet face. Taking particular attention around my eye area and nose, whilst keeping my eyes closed of course. My mascara and eyeliner aren't waterproof but they usually take some rough rubbing to get every last bit off with an ordinary cleanser. This face wash does that so effortlessly, and gently. After a minute or so of rubbing the product onto my face, I simply wash it off and pat dry with a towel. After using this you would never have guessed I'd been wearing eye makeup. For those who say it didn't remove theirs, I don't know what to suggest...
Also the whole doing nothing thing, I think ikr does. It claims to wash your face without drying it out (hence the soothing and Moisturising nutrients) and that's exactly what it does... So can't really complain. Some people complained that it didnt do anything for spot control etc. But it doesn't claim to do that, so not really a fault of the product for only doing what it promises to do.
I only use this at night time to remove my makeup as a more gentle alternative to the traditional cotton wool and cleanser. and is much quicker and more convenient too! It does a good job of what I need it to do, and does what I expect from it - to wash my face while keeping my skin's natural moisture. Admittedly I do think it is a little expensive for a face wash, but it'll last me a while and until I find a cheaper version, I'm happy with this one.
Summary: Gentle face wash that promises to thoroughly clean and keep in skin's moisture - does exactly that!
