I don't like using face products that have oil in them as my skin is oily enough as it is, so i like to use something that controls the oil without stripping my skin bare. These wipes do this and more.
I use these wipes on their own if i am feeling lazy, or after i have used a cleanser to make sure i have removed all of my makeup and dirt from my skin (its amazing what gets left behind after cleansing!)
As simple claim to be "experts in sensitive skin" i do like to use their products as my skin can be very tempermental and doesn't respond well to anything harsh. The wipes do not contain alcohol so my skin doesn't feel stripped, and as the wipes are fragrance free and PH balanced they are most certainly gentle enough for my sensitive skin.
When it comes to the oil balancing i believe the wipes do a very good job. They contain Zinc which is known to purify skin and Witch Hazel to reduce pores. After use my skin feels soft, clean and shine free due to the oil absorbing nature of the wipes.
My favourite thing about these wipes is they make my skin feel so refreshed. I get a light tingling sensation when i use these wipes like i know they are doing something good for my skin. I find them wet enough so they simply glide across the skin to remove my make up so i don't have to rub at my skin.
For eye makeup i do recommend using a seperate cleanser as these don't quite remove it fully, and i like to use something a bit more moisturising under my eye area anyway as i don't need to fight oilyness there.
The only downside for me is the price of the wipes. You only get 25 in a pack so not even 4 weeks worth, and they are normally around £3.20 for a pack. I normally wait until Boots has a 3 for 2 deal or some sort of offer on the wipes before i stock up, as i cannot justify the usual price for the wipes however good they are.
I do recommend these wipes for those with combination skin as they really do control my skin without being harsh. Just wait until there is an offer on!
Simple Oil balancing face wipes can be purchased from Boots, Superdrug and most supermarkets.
I use moist facial wipes most days, finding they work effectively at removing my make-up prior to cleansing my skin. I am not particularly fussy about which brand of wipes I use, and will often just buy whatever is on promotional offer at the time. I have been strict with myself recently, however, in that I have been trying my best to work through the huge collection of skincare/toiletry items that I have hoarded away at home, instead of continually purchasing more. One item that I unearthed in my vast collection recently was a package of "Simple Oil Balancing Cleansing Wipes", with this review outlining my experiences of using the product.
I purchased two packs of the wipes for the sum of £4 a while back, taking advantage of a promotional offer that was running at the time. The usual price of the pack costs around the £3 mark, so I was pleased at my bargain. Each package contains 25 individual wipes, which is fairly average for a product like this one. A whole host of skincare items from within the Simple brand is widely available from all good drugstores such as Boots and Superdrug, in addition to some supermarkets such as Tesco.
The packaging is quite simplistic, but there is something of a 'crisp' and rather 'fresh' appearance to be enjoyed, thanks to the pale blue-coloured plastic pouch and its plain white label, that details a sort of 'swirled' design in colours of blue and green. I have noticed in the past that the Simple range overall has a very 'crisp' appearance, and these wipes are really no exception to this. As with all similar face wipe products, the Simple Oil Balancing Cleansing Wipes are housed in a sturdy pack made of thin plastic, with the 'cloth' wipes being housed neatly inside. As with most other products like this one, there is a heavy duty sticky label 'closure' on the front of the pack that acts as a sort of 'seal' and this design allows the pack to be opened and closed easily between uses. I can't say that I have ever had any difficulties with using this label closure, nor has its quality proven insufficient or under par, which would possibly see the label losing some of its adhesive which no longer offers a secure and hygienic seal. This is a significant fault that I have encountered with many other brands of facial cloths that I have tried out before, and I have found that a closure of a poor quality will see the wipes in the pack losing some - or all - of their moisture, rendering them useless. This has not been an issue with the Simple Oil Balancing Wipes however, and I have been able to use every last wipe in the pack.
The wipes themselves are a white colour, and their material is very soft. This is what I had hoped, and expected, as the Simple brand is marketed as being one that is kind to skin, so I'd have been surprised if the wipes' material had been abrasive or harsh. I needn't have worried, as the soft, 'woven' type fabric feels wonderfully soft and gentle on my sensitive skin. Furthermore, I find that the Simple wipes are not overly 'wet' as with some other brands that feel slightly 'sloppy' when rubbed over the skin's surface; the Simple Wipes, in comparison, feel much 'drier' than this which feels much more pleasant on my sensitive skin.
As with all other items in the Simple range, the Oil Balancing Wipes are free from perfume or colour, so there is no aroma present during the use of the product. I find that this is further reinforcement of the product's suitability for sensitive skin. The last facial cleansing wipes that I used had a very strong 'chemical' type scent to them that I can't say I was particularly fond of, so the Simple wipes' unscented cloths feel much more suited to my own tastes. In addition, I find the Simple product slots quite neatly into my evening skincare routine, as I prefer to use unscented products at the end of the day before bed, finding these feel more 'calm' and gentle on my skin at this hour of the day.
The Simple Oil Balancing Wipes feel as though they have a very 'fuss free' approach; using one takes a mere moment, and I find there is nothing difficult or fussy about doing so, which again, makes them the perfect accompaniment to my evening skincare routine. To use, I simply need to use one of the wipes over my face and neck, which leaves it feeling completely cleansed. I find they are effective too at removing my make-up, with the soft 'woven' texture of the wipes being completely capable for this task. All traces of eye make-up are removed too, with even the most stubborn eyeliner and hardiest of mascaras being wiped off in just a moment.
I don't wear waterproof make-up so can't comment on the wipes' suitability for removing this type of cosmetic, but certainly for my own requirements they have coped well with removing every last trace of make-up expertly and quickly.
After use, I can observe my skin's softness and spotlessly clean appearance; there is no tacky residue left behind, nor does my skin feel sticky or overly 'wet' - in actual fact my skin looks - and feels - quite natural. These wipes actually claim to "Control Shine" and whilst I couldn't say that my face suffers from excess oils, I am able to note a more 'subtle' shine evident to my nose and forehead, which are mildly affected by excess shine at times. Whilst this is not removed altogether by the Simple Wipes, I do feel that they help the issue, allowing for the oily skin to feel - and look - more 'balanced' and with the shine/oil controlled, as a result. I do feel, however, that this result would vary from person to person, and I'm not sure how these wipes would fare if my skin was particularly oily or greasy; I'm not sure that any brand of facial wipes would be the best 'tool' in overcoming this problem, to be honest. For me, however, I find the Simple Wipes offer an overall 'calm' to my face, and I therefore have no complaints or issues to raise.
Taking everything into account, I do feel the Simple Oil Balancing Cleansing Wipes are excellent, and I will definitely be repurchasing them again. They are one of the best facial wipes that I have used in a long time, and I do feel that although they are slightly more expensive than other brands that I buy regularly, their quality and effectiveness can not be overlooked.
I do therefore feel that they are worth paying more for, and they come with my full recommendation, together with top marks in the Dooyoo product rating score, as a result of my positive findings.
I like to use facial wipes in the morning once I am up and in the evening to take off makeup and freshen up. I usually tend to purchase what is on offer as I like to change which type I use as I don't want to restrict my skin and stick to one product. I tend to do this due to my skin get quite oily or dry if I stick to the same products.
I purchased these facial clear skin oil balancing wipes from boots. I was lucky enough to get them in the 3 for 2 offers on skin care so I have a variety of ones to try. This packet contains 25 wipes.
These cost me £3.20 but seeing as I got the 3rd packet free they ended up costing around £2 each. I have seen these on offer in local supermarkets around that price mark. I also earn my boots points on my advantage card and also got double point with the voucher I printed off in store via their advantage card machines.
These wipes are made by Simple. They are the No. 1 uk cleansing brand, as stated on the packaging. Simple use no perfume, alcohol, colours or oil in this product making non drying and non greasy. As there are no harsh chemicals in the product this makes it more gentle and easy on your skin.
These wipes do contain a natural zinc, this will help absorb the oil and grim from your face and phytosphingosine which help reduce blemishes.
Upon opening the packet there is a pull tab which is easy to open and closes very easy. It keeps the wipes nicely sealed and stops them from drying out.
They are easy to pull out one at a time so you don't end up wasting them or excess coming out of the packet.
The wipes are a good size and not stiff, they are very moveable on your face and easy to get into creases. They don't sting and clear make up and grim off your face.
I find it slightly harder to remove my waterproof mascara with these.
They leave my skin feeling soft and smooth and refreshed. Knowing that these will clear my face I can sleep in peace knowing my white pillowcase won't be left with foundation marks on in the morning. I will also awake to a lovely nice refreshed feeling on my skin. My skin on my face felt alive, it was clean fresh as amazingly soft. I must just note it wasn't like this after the first time I used it I am around 12 wipes into my packet and it has felt healthy and happier skin every day.
I like to use another one in the morning just to freshen up after having a shower before putting on my moisturiser just to make sure that I have cleaned.
I really like these wipes and get on with them really well. They leave no residue on my face and my skin doesn't feel dried out or tight a few hours after using them.
I do think they are slightly expensive for the size packet you get, seeing as I use 2 a day. This can get pricey, this is the only thing that puts me off. But the slightly better products do cost slightly more.
After having bought and fallen in love with Simple's Clear Skin Oil Balancing Moisturiser and been suitably happy with the results of the matching Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash, I decided to find out what I thought of the Oil Balancing Cleansing Wipes.
I tend not to use facial wipes as part of my daily skin care routine. They are more the type of product that I reach for when I've been on a night out with the girls and can't quite manage to take off my make up properly or when I am too exhausted from work to bother with cleansing my face properly. I never feel like face wipes cleanse my face in a complete way but I find that they are very useful for times like the ones that I've mentioned above.
What does it do?
The facial wipes comes a part of a collection that has been designed specifically for those with oily and spot free skin. The product promises to remove every last trace of your make up leaving it feeling fresh and clean, while toning it and feeding it skin loving lovely nutrients. The face wipes contain no oil or alcohol and no artificial fragrances or colouring so they should be ok to use on even sensitive skin.
How does it work?
The wipes contain Zinc which absorbs the excess oils from the face while calming and healing any angry spots that you may have. It also helps to draw out impurities from the skin so that no new spots can form. A Zinc deficiency can be one of the main causes of acne so any products containing the substance will be beneficial for your skin.
The wipes contains Phytosphingosine, a form of yeast, which helps the skin to maintain a healthy level of moisture which prevents it from getting dry and aging prematurely. It also works with the Zinc to fight against spots that you already have and to prevent new ones from forming.
Witch Hazel is included which is a fantastic ingredient for dealing with acne. It is an astringent which tightens the pores and tones the skin. As the pores are tightened, the skin produces less oil meaning less spots can form and your skin will remain shine free.
How do you use the product?
The product is supposed to either take the place of cleansing or to be used as before cleansing so that your skin is extra clean. The product is simply to be wiped gently over the face to remove make up and impurities from the skin.
If you are not wearing make up, it can be a nice way to freshen up and clean your skin while at work or on a hot summers day. Obviously, if you're wearing make up then it can't be used for this purpose because all of your make up will come off.
Packaging and Price
The product comes in an aqua coloured soft packet. It has a flap that lifts up to reveal the wipes inside and it is resealable so that the wipes don't dry out. When pull on the wipes, one comes out at a time and I haven't experienced any bunches of them accidently being pulled through together.
The product costs around £3 for 25 wipes and can be bought from most department stores and supermarkets. It can also be bought from many different websites and the price may vary a little bit.
These wipes are very gentle on my skin. They don't sting or make my face uncomfortable and they feel very natural on my skin. My face can feel a little tight after use but I guess this means that the toning aspect is working but it does give you the urge to moisturise afterwards. My face also gets a little tingly but in a cool and refreshing way.
I don't think any wipe could truthfully remove every last trace of my makeup. Not unless you use the whole packet, at least not the amount of make up that I wear. But I think that these wipes remove as much as any wipe could and it makes a good go of even removing my eye make up completely. Sometimes I find that I need to use two wipes to deal with my night time make.
The wipes are very moist and do not drag my skin at all and they don't feel rough against my face. They never cause any new spots to form and when used in conjunction when the other products in the range my skin has become as clear as my skin is ever going to get. The wipes smell incredibly fresh and the aroma remains on the skin for some time after use.
All in all, I think that these wipes are gentle enough not to sting and clean the skin as well as a wipe can. They are refreshing and prevent new blemishes from developing and successfully remove traces of oil from the skin. I don't think they clean the skin well enough to replace your normal cleanser but they work well in addition to it or for on those nights when you just don't have the energy to clean your skin properly.
Much to my annoyance, my skin needs just a teeny tiny window of opportunity to breakout into mountainous spots so I have to use products designed to reduce oil and blemishes. This normally involves a separate cleanser, exfoliator, toner and moisturiser to keep up some resemblance of normal skin.
As I am in the habit of falling straight to sleep without going through the motions with all these products after a night on the pop, I decided to buy some wipes to keep within arms reach of my bed so I can quickly remove my make up and be promptly transported towards sleep (and my hangover) all the sooner.
Which brings me to these wipes...
The wipes are packaged in a light blue plastic packet with a sticky resealable tab. I find these sticky tab things abhorrent, they never chuffin' work. I personally would rather pay a bit more and have the wipes packaged with some sort of opening that clicks into place than have to spend another 3 quid on a new pack of wipes when they dry out.
***Price and Where to buy***
A pack of 25 wipes can be purchased from Boots stores for £2.99. These are also available at some supermarkets so may be cheaper there. As far as facial wipes go I find think this is a reasonable price for facewipes.
***My Skin Profile***
I'm in my early twenties and my skin tends to be Normal/Combination and I suffer from quite frequent breakouts mostly around my chin and nose. I tend to have shiny/oily skin in my T-Zone too and I find that my skin has the tendancy to look a little dull from timer to time.
***About the wipes***
The blurb on the website states:-
"Control shine and thoroughly cleanse with our Clear Skin Oil Balancing Cleansing Wipes. They revive, tone and remove make-up, leaving your skin clean and fresh"
"Zinc PCA gently absorbs excess oil for pure clear skin
Natural Antibacterial helps reduce blemishes and freshen skin
Witch Hazel helps tone and tighten pores
100% alcohol and oil free so are non drying, and leave skin soft and supple with no greasy residue
pH balanced so maintains natural balance for healthy skin"
I decided to go for these one as I thought they would be most suitable for my skin type.
***Using the wipes***
To use simply remove a wipe from the packet and sweep gently over face and neck. I found the material of the wipes not to be as smooth as I would like. They seem to have a slightly grainy quality to them. They have a very gentle, almost non-existent scent which I liked very much. I am not a huge fan of overly scented beauty products.
They removed most make up, mascara was a bit of a problem as I still woke up with panda eyes but that could just be because of my inebriated state rendering me useless. They were gentle enough to use around the eye area though which is always a plus. I suffered no irritation from the wipes at all.
The only big issue I do have with the wipes is that I was left with a light, sticky residue on my skin after use despite Simple claiming that there would be no greasy residue. This is only a small issue and is more than likely due to the fact my skin doesn't like to absorb anything.
As mentioned above, I do have to stick to my skin care routine quite religiously in order to preserve my skin and whilst these wipes mean that I can at least remove my make up, I still tend to wake up the next day feeling a breakout brewing. I'm not going to say that the product is not good as it is more likely my skin is the problem and not the wipes themselves.
Overall, not something I would recommend to someone with a similar skintype to myself, perhaps better for someone with Normal skin.
Much to my mothers dismay, I have never been good at any skin regimes she has ever tried to enforce upon me. Daily facial cleanse? Nightly make-up removal? Daily facial scrub? Bi weekly face wash? Weekly face wash? Any wash?
Yeah, I am terrible at anything relatively time consuming to get rid of spots/reduce pores. I am terribly impatient and find it all a bit faffy, and generally don't see any results, which just annoys me to no end! If I am gonna spend 5 mins plus splashing around with cleansers/toners/pore decreasing products I want it to be 5 minutes well spent. Not 5 minutes I will never get back again.
Luckily, this has all changed now after these wipes! After years of nagging to 'remember to wash your face!' 'you should use that pore reducing stuff sitting there' and 'you really need to sort out your spots!'..... there is an eerie silence when my mother looks me in the face. No longer does she need to waste her breath. Simple to the rescue!!
These wipes have really made a big difference to my skin. I have an oily T zone and dry areas of my face aswell, which makes cleansing very difficult, as I can't usually find a product which accomodates all these annoyances! However this product has ticked all the boxes.
I do agree with most the points they make about their product:
Control shine - yes, my sking definitely is more matt in problem areas such as my nose.
Revive - to an extent. My skin feels much better and hydrated after using these wipes, however I think only diet can change skin.
Tone - my skin definitely appears more even and normal.
Remove make-up - Well to be expected of most wipes! Does so well without irritation.
Leaves skin clean and fresh - the wipes certainly clean, and do leave your face feeling fresher. You can see the wipes lifting actual dirt from the skin - not just your layer of foundation.
However, there is one thing with these wipes, despite their claim of clean and fresh feeling, after the moisture from the wipes has dried on the face, skin can feel dry and crispy almost, so I often have to moisturise afterwards, which is good I suppose as my skin gets some proper treatment, but when I am dying for my bed, the last thing I want to be doing is standing in front of a mirror with my eyes half shut having to lazily apply moisturiser after having struggled getting to sleep 'cause of how my face felt.
Overall - the difference made to my skin is great. I can really see a difference in skin tone and spot reduction, however, the dry feeling after use is undesirable.
Would reccomend above any wipe as it actually does what it says on the packet!
By bedtime, there's only one thing I want to do: fall into bed as quickly as humanly possible. Bed is warm and cosy, and all of those jobs you need to do before you can snuggle in - the face washing, the contact removing, the hamster feeding, the alarm clock setting - are nothing but trouble.
So don't do them.
Okay, so feed the hamster, or the RSPCA will be onto you. And set the alarm or you'll *wish* the RSPCA were onto you. But face washing? Don't waste your time - the few pounds you'll spend on wipes equate to a few minutes of extra sleep every week (especially if you wait to see what's on offer when you're buying), and when they clean you up as well as soap but without getting water everywhere they're worth every penny. The addition of Zinc, a natural antibacterial, gives the wipes a lovely fresh aroma and should also prevent you from getting spots, although one look at my skin proves that claim may be somewhat spurious...
Not only do they clean quickly, they clean well, removing grime and makeup with few problems - even removing mascara from around my super-sensitive eyes without causing an allergic waterfall of tears.
And yes, all extra sleep aside, you *will* feel a bit guilty flinging a wipe in the bin every day. It is, after all, extra landfill, regardless of how good a job it does. But if you use the wipe until all of the cleaning fluid is used (and not just on you: they seem to also be good for wiping dust from plant leaves. I give the plant on my dressing table a wipe every evening once my face is done, and not only hasn't it died, it hasn't developed any spots, either...) you can almost justify them to yourself. Almost. Well, it umm, saves on, err... facecloth washing?
And the all-important part of any review of a wipe, be it for babies, faces, floors or doors, is the sticky tab: does it stick back down again, or will your whole pack of wipes dry out after one use? Well, I'm pleased to report that the stick factor on this package is high, and not a single wipe has been lost through drying. Success!
I like Simple Face Wipes, I can't say I'm overtly enthusiastic about them but they do their job better than any on the market at the moment and after using them I genuinly feel less oily (although I can't say this feeling lasts for long!)
There is 25 wipes to each packet, which although it doesnt feel like loads, they still manage to last for ages. The smells is quite nice and fresh, not really perfumy like some others, and they also don't feel particularly heavy or soaking in liquid. In fact, compared with some others I would say these wipes appear quite dry, espeically at the end of the packet, however they still do their job!
The wipes do cleanse my skin and take away any excess oil on the face. They also take off make-up which is a god send, even waterproof mascara! This is with only the same amount of rubbing normal eye make-up remover would take. The also don't sting the eyes, unlike other Simple products I have had in the past. Overall, they do their job and although theyre not cheap, they are definatly worth a buy, especially if you have oily skin.
Much to my disdain, my face is still a little prone to break outs. If I fall asleep with make up on for just one night, you can guarantee that I'll be peering at a nice spot or two a few days later. Not that I think anyone would look at me and think "ooh, acne", but I when I get a few spots, they do tend to be very obvious to me and my blemishes do tend to lead to scarring. So, obviously I want to try and minimise the risk of getting breakouts. I think a good skincare regime that's suitable for my skin would contribute to minimising this risk (but, really, I've realised that diet, water intake and exercise also goes a long way to help... which is where I've been going wrong lately methinks). Anyway, I'm babbling, but I think you can get the picture of the type of skin that I have...
For a while now, I hadn't used or bought any face wipes for cleansing my face. I'd been using Dermalogica Anti-Bac face wash (have reviewed this separately) which has been great for controlling oil and feeling like it's giving my face a good old clean. However, the reason that I decided to buy some face wipes was so that I could take them to a 4 day festival. Face wipes are really convenient for quick and lazy face cleansing - perfect festival skincare companions!
Now I'd bought lots of different types of skin wipes before, mainly for removing make up before a gym session, and have got on with some more than others. Some felt too rich and oily, not too great for my skin - especially in the humid summer months. However, more recently, I've really avoided using these as I don't think they are quite as effective as the more labour intensive methods of face cleansing. Basically, I believe, you're trading off effectiveness for convenience.
Looking at all the face wipe products at Boots, it can be said that there are plenty of brands and options to pick from! Interestingly, none of the higher end skincare counters offered wipe-based face cleansers. So, if you're looking to buy wipes, don't go to the counters... walk straight past these and to the skincare shelves.
After a bit of mooching around, I spotted these. I thought to myself - perfect! You see, most face wipes seem to be more formulated for normal/dry/combination or sensitive skin. These seemed to be better suited to my skin type. They claim to control shine and thoroughly cleanse. They are also supposed to revive, tone and remove make-up, leaving skin clean and fresh.
Some listed ingredients also caught my eye:
Zinc (gently absorbs excess oil for pure clear skin)
Natural Antibacterial helps reduce blemishes and freshen skin
Witch Hazel helps tone and tighten pores
Also, the wipes are 100% alcohol and oil free. They are pH balanced.
At £2.99 for 25 wipes, they weren't the cheapest but weren't the most expensive either. Based on the packaging info and Simple's reputation, I decided that these ticked the boxes for me and dropped a packet into my basket.
So, how have I found them? Well, very convenient for one. Perfect for festivals and going away anywhere. Using the wipes, they left my skin feeling suitably clean, removing make up and leaving my skin feeling soft without a greasy residue. There was no drying either.
Now that the packet's finished, will it replace my Dermalogica Anti-Bac skin wash? Well, in a word... no. I did seem to get a few more spots than normal once I'd returned from the festival. However, I suspect that this could have been due to a number of factors, other than the wipes (e.g. increased alcohol intake/poor diet seems to make my skin worse), so I don't think that I can pinpoint it to this product.
Also, another minor niggle is that the reseal tab loses its stickiness so the wipes can dry out a little.
Although these won't replace my skin wash, if I needed to buy skin wipes again for the convenience factor, then I would probably choose these ones - unless, of course, something even better comes on the market!
