I bought this after my skin seemed to take a reaction to some of the face care products I had been using. My skin isn't particularly sensitive, but I did notice it would look a bit redder when I used products that were highly perfumed. Wanting to get rid of this, I decided to give Simple products a go as I knew they didn't contain any perfume and were supposedly good for sensitive skin.
I was surprised at the consistency of this, as any cleansing lotions I have used before have been quite thin and watery. This is quite a thick cream which cleanses your face effectively without drying it out. I don't use this as directed with cotton wool pads, but I dampen my face and spread a generous amount over my damp face, massaging it in. I then wash it off with a clean wash cloth. I have found this method works best for me and doesn't waste any cotton pads. My skin is left feeling clean and refreshed but not tight. I then follow up with a Simple moisturizer which I am loving equally as much and my skin hasn't looked this good in years!
Altogether a great basic product at a very affordable price. I have already got rid of all my other cleansing lotions since starting this!
I received this Simple Kind to Skin Lotion as part of a gift set at Christmas. The set contains the lotion, a bottle of toner, a light moisturiser, and a small cosmetics bag. I love Simple products, so this was a great gift for me, and gave me an opportunity to try some products that I haven't tried before.
There really isn't much to say about the packaging, as Simple products always have the same white bottle, green lid, and clear labeling. I've always thought that the packaging fits well with the image of the brand; the products themselves are simple and non-perfumed, and the packaging is simple and plain.
---Using the Product---
This cleansing lotion is supposed to be used by squeezing some onto a cotton pad and rubbing it gently over your face. I haven't tried using this as a standard cleanser with water, but I don't think it would work as well with water. It's best to just stick to the recommended method with this. I first tried using it with a piece of cotton wool pleat, as I didn't have any cotton pads, and it didn't work well at all. The cotton wool fell apart, so it's really best to invest in some cotton wool pads. You can find a big pack of these in Poundland, and they'll last you a long time.
The consistency of the lotion is very thick, and a little goes a long way. It does come out in one big blob, so I like to fold the cotton pad to evenly distribute the lotion, before putting it on my face. Before I did this, the lotion would end up in one big blob on my face, so I found that folding the pad made it easier to get even coverage over my face.
It's recommended that you use this product twice a day; once in the morning, and once in the evening. I do usually remember to use it twice a day, but sometimes I just use it before bed. If you only want to use it once, and make the product last longer, it's up to you, but if you have particularly oily skin, as I do, then it's best to use it twice a day.
As always with Simple, this product doesn't contain any perfume, and is perfect for sensitive skin. I personally don't have a need for a perfumed product just to clean my face with anyway, so having no scent doesn't bother me. That's what a bottle of perfume is for!
It's recommended that you use the Simple Toner after using the lotion, and I try to do this every time I use it. However, there have been times when I haven't used the toner afterwards, either down to laziness, or just forgetfulness. While I've found that the results are better with the toner too, the lotion does do a good job of cleaning by itself. It's also very soothing if you have dry or chapped skin, so it's great in the winter. In fact, the product description on the bottle states that it's perfect for drier skin, as it's so gentle.
I find that my skin feels cleaner since I've been using this product. It's very easy for my skin to breakout, so no product on it's own keeps spots away for good. Combined with a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water, this product has done wonders for my skin. It feels clean, smooth and just generally healthier. The product has even seemed to help moisturise, as my skin hasn't been as dry recently.
This lotion contains Pro-Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E. While I don't know a lot about important vitamins for your skin, I am familiar with Vitamin E being good for your skin, so it makes sense for it to be in Simple products.
As I got this as part of a gift set, I didn't know how much each product would cost by itself. After using the products and loving them, I did some research into prices for when I've run out. As always with Simple, the price is fairly low, with this lotion costing around £3-£4 depending on where you buy it. I've spotted it in Superdrug, Boots, Wilkinson, Savers, and many Supermarkets, so it's easy enough to get hold of.
The bottle is 200ml, and as you only need to use a little bit of product each time, I think this price is more than fair. There are products on the market that are a lot more expensive and considering how well this product works, I'm not tempted to fork out for a more expensive product at all.
I've been using this product twice a day since Christmas, and the bottle still feels heavy. I'm estimating that there is at least half a bottle still left, so it offers fantastic value for money. It's a definite favourite for me.
**SIMPLE PURIFYING CLEANSING LOTION REVIEW***
If you have read any of my other reviews you will know i am still plagued with adolescent spots and blackheads.I also find my skin is very much combination, sometimes super dry and sometimes (more with make-up on) super super oily. There is very little balance. Due to this in the past I have tended to go with skincare brands such as Clearasil or Freederm but have found they are too harsh on my skin and actually tend to bring me out in more redness. Also, these kinds of spot specific brands are really pricey. Recently however I have grown more accustomed to the Simple brand. I have tried their "Spotless Skin" range which is pretty good. But I find their "Oil Balancing" range fits my skin more. Although I am not a massive fan of their oil balancing moisturiser!!
Due to my skin being quite spotty and red I tend to use much more cover up make-up than most people. I use a few layers of primer and foundation, then conceal spots with a tea tree concealer and then I finish with a light pressed powder. On particularly bad days I will even use a BB Cream also. Although, as I use this much more face make-up it takes ages to remove it at the end of the day. For me though it is crucial to ensure all make-up is removed before i sleep or I will wake-up with more spots - like a lot of people out there find. I used to remove my make-up with a simple cleansing wipe (for face and eyes) and then I would use the simple oil balancing exfoliating wash with warm water. After using this I would tone with cold water and apply the moisturiser that I mentioned earlier which i don't like. I found though doing this I assumed my face was make-up free when actually it wasn't. I found my spots were getting worse and worse.
This is where the simple cleansing lotion comes in. I purchased it on a whim by accident thinking I was picking up a moisturiser.I didn't see the point in taking back to the shop so thought it would give it a go. The product says to apply the lotion to a cotton wool pad/ball and rub in upwards circular motion over your face to remove make-up. For me though I used slightly differently. I first used a cleansing wipe to remove the top layer of make-up as well as eye make-up. I then used this lotion. I went over my face once and found the cotton pad came out a murky orange colour. I then repeated until the pad came off pretty clear. To finish i cleansed with warm water and then a simple cleansing gel, toned and moisturised. Honestly, I wasn't sure this would have made a difference but boy was i wrong. My skin certainly felt cleaner as well as more soft and supple.
I continued doing this for a few days and found it was really making a difference to my skin. it felt nicer and I found less and less spots were coming through. On days that i don't wear any make-up. Such a a Saturday (unless leaving the house) or when i have a day off from college. I miss out the exfoliating step and simply use this lotion. It saves me time and actually works better as by using warm water and exfoliating it dries my skin out meaning my pores produce excess oil to compensate but when using this I am simply removing excess oil and dirt but not unbalancing my skin.
I have been using this now for about 2-3 weeks everyday and my skin is great. make-up is easier than ever to apply and I actually use less as I need less because my redness and spots have reduced hugely. I am now prone to just a few breakouts a week. Obviously,my skin is different to a lot of people but if like me you suffer spots or find taking make-up off a big chore then you need this product. It saves time, makes your skin look better and isn't harsh at all. If you have sensitive skin I would also recommend greatly as the product truly is Simple as it says. it removes the nasties but stays true to your skin
The product like much of the Simple range comes in simple clean packaging with product information printed on the front and back. This lotion comes in a white bottle printed with the simple logo in green. It comes with a small amount of graphics ( green lines - looks like trees/branches) which give it a professional look which is not tacky at all. The bottle is topped with a green easy open lid which is strong and durable. I have found some bottled skincare products are made form cheap material which breaks/cracks easily. For Simple though their packaging is great I have never had an issue with it. My bottle has the flip up cap but i know they also produce this with a screw cap. You just need to find the bottle which suits you best.As the packaging looks nice and clean it fits well on a bathroom shelf and looks expensive when in a matter of fact it isn't.
The bottle the product comes in pretty large. I have been using (large amounts) for 3 weeks now and I would say from looking at my bottle I could get a good month out of it yet. I purchase the standard size but you can buy travel size versions from places like Asda. I purchased my said bottle from Boots for £2.99 at the time. I used my advantage points for this so got it free really. However, i have seen pretty it pretty cheap is supermarkets. Asda in particular often do £1 deals on these kinds of items so look out for that. Superdrug too often offer a 3 for 2 on Simple. On average the product is £2.99 which isn't too bad at all. For the size it is a good price. Compared to Freederm which I used to use this product is almost half the price. I will though add that to use the product you need to have some face pads/wool balls in the house. These though can be fairly cheap. I use Morrisons baby wool sheet in a bag which costs about 49p. This I break up into pieces and use for all kinds of things such as this to removing nail varnish. It lasts a good few weeks. Alternatively, when i ran out for a few days when I couldn't get to the shop i used a couple of sheets of wound toilet paper. It does rub and break but works for a short while.
All in all on this section I would conclude by saying the product is pretty cheap for the amount. The packaging is clean and simple and is easy to use.I couldn't fault here.
**CLAIMS- SIMPLE THE BRAND**
Something I love about Simple is that it mentions the use of vitamins/nutrients in the products. it claims to be simple and madee of nature derived products. I cannot confirm this at all but the idea of it really appeals to me. This product in particular claims/says:
1 Vital Vitamin
Pro-Vitamin B5 actively restores, softens and smoothes
2 Skin Loving Nutrients
Bisabolol soothes and clams
Allantoin softens and protects
0 - No Perfume, No Colour
No Unnecessary Ingredients and
No Harsh Chemicals so it won't upset your skin
Simple skincare contains no animal derived ingredients
I can confirm that the product does restore, soften and smooth the skin (from my experience). i can also tell you it is perfume free. it has no scent really. just that clean smell you get from fragrance free beauty items. it's lovely. However, i am not a scientist so cannot guarantee that there are no harmful ingredients or vitamins. I can though say that from my use that the product seems simple and full of goodness that certainly isn't harsh on my skin. i really like that it says it contains no animal derived ingredients. i am by no means an animal lover but it is nice to know I am not harming an animal but cleaning my face. This of course would be a big appeal to the likes are dedicated vegans/vegetarians.
Overall, i am so pleased with the product. it cleans my skins really well and removes excess make-up. It has solved an issue I had for sometime and I hope with increased use my skin will clear up completely. More so than already. (For anyone interested i will update this in a few weeks and let you know how I got on further with use). I am also happy that the product is cheap in cost and doesn't need replacing very often meaning I can splurge on other things instead!!
I would 100% recommend this item to anybody that wants clean, fresh nourished skin. Especially those who like me struggle with the complete removal of face make-up. it makes cleaning your face more of a treat and less of a chore!
Please comment on here what you think of the product yourself or the review i love to hear others responses. Likewise check out my other reviews if you've enjoyed this one.

Hey ladies (and maybe some men). As you may notice, wearing makeup and not removing it can cause damage to the skin in the long run. Just going out for a today (if you live in a city which is busy) and being exposed to dirt or pollution can clog our pores with debris. The obvious solution is being able to cleanse the skin, leaving it feeling soft and subtle!
I have been using this Simple Purifying Cleansing lotion for the past few years, I was attracted to the fact it was simple and kind to skin with no fragrance (shame) and ingredients GREAT for the skin compared to other brands. Simple has a good reputation for this!
Just apply a small amount, either onto your skin or cotton wool/pad and massage all over your face (& neck). It removes makeup or build up. Don't use if you have super dry skin (especially too frequently) otherwise it might strip you of your natural oils (BUT -it's obviously better than using a harsh soap). Can be used daily. I don't tend to use it if I have spots (fear that they will get moisturized and worsen as I avoid any product ie make up, moisturizer when I have a breakout).
Overall does a fantastic job, leaving the desired results - a light, fresh feeling of cleansed CLEAN skin which can breathe without any makeup clogging it. Part of my daily pre-bedtime routine.
Cons: the only problem I experienced is the bottles not exactly handy to carry around in your handbag if Im going away for a night and want to travel light - usually just transfer into a dispenser. AND NOTE: does NOT work on waterproof mascara ( I use Nivea Eye care for that - see my other review)
Hope that helped :D
I have always suffered with really sensitive skin so am always quite wary when buying or trying new products I need to make sure that it won't affect my skin.
The simple range is something that I have used in the past. It was actually my grandma that recommended it to me years ago and I have used some of their range ever since. A few months ago I was looking for a new cleansing lotion and saw this in my local Morrison's so thought I would give it a go. The simple range are now widely available in most supermarkets and also in chemists so you are not limited to where you can get them.
The simple range looks as you would expect quite plain and a bit boring really but I suppose it wants its packaging to look as plain and clean as possible and it certainly does that.
The product says that the lotion has vitamins which cleanse your skin leaving it smooth and soft. This is just what you would want from a cleanser so I thought id give it a try. It also says it contains B5 which is supposed to restore skin.
Due to the fact that the range is for sensitive skin the great thing about simple is that it does not have lots of perfumes or ingredients added so you can be sure you are getting something that is very pure.
I paid £3 for my cleanser so quite middle of the road for price I would say. The bottle was 200ml so it will last me ages as I don't use much. I normally just cleanse my skin in the evening before I go to bed. Boots sometimes do offers on simple products so it is definitely worth keeping your eyes open if you do like them as you can get a bargain.
I use the cleanser after I have had my shower so my face is always freshly washed. I normally just pour a little bit out onto some cotton wool and then wipe it over my face and neck. When I first used this product I was really surprised by how much dirt was on the cotton wool when I had finished especially considering I had just washed it!
I was very impressed by the way the product worked and my skin felt so much cleaner and smoother after using it.
There is also a toner available in the same range so I am going to try that next to see if that works as well. I have been very pleased with the cleanser and will definitely recommend it to other people.
I bought the simple purifying cleansing lotion a few months ago when it was on offer in Boots. I paid £2.00 for it, however normally it retails for around £2.99 in most drug stores.
The simple purifying lotion comes in a 200ml sized bottle. The packaging mimics all of the other products in the simple range, with the majority of the bottle being in a white colour with green font used for the writing. The bottle has a green flip top lid making dispensing the lotion quick and easy. The plastic bottle also has some give in it, meaning you only have to squeeze it gently to release some of the cleansing lotion. On the back of the bottle, you can find a list of the ingredients used in the lotion as well as directions for use and details about how you can contact simple if necessary.
The lotion itself is white in colour and has a very neutral odour to it which I really like. The last thing I want is anything too strong smelling on my face. It has a medium consistency, and isn't too 'gloopy' which is in my opinion perfect. I also found that you only need a small amount on the cotton wool pad to apply to the whole face, a little really does go a long way.
It is advised by simple to use the purifying lotion both morning and night, which is what I have been doing. Even though normally I am a bit lazy and would only use it before bed. I have noticed my skin looks a lot brighter and 'alive', especially after a long day at work or studying. It is also excellent at removing the normal build up of daily dirt on your face and even removes waterproof make-up with ease, which is an added bonus.
Simple claim that the lotion gives a gentle, thorough cleanse even around the delicate eye area, this is definitely true. My skin can be very sensitive as well, but using this purifying lotion twice a day did not irritate it in any way, there was no redness or itching.
I have also not experienced any greasiness with this cleansing lotion, which is one thing I have found with many other cleansing lotions in the past. I have even come out in spots when using cleansing lotions in the past, as when they have been followed by moisturisers as advised, they have left my skin very unhappy indeed.
Overall, I really like this cleansing lotion. As mentioned it is non greasy, easy to apply, lasts a long time and doesn't irritate the skin. It is also a reasonable price, as some cleansing lotions can be really expensive. And as a student, I can't afford to spend lots of money on products that aren't up to scratch.
I prefer to use cleansing wipes to remove my make up just because I find it quicker and easy (lazy I know!) but I always like to have a bottle of cleansing lotion stored in case I run out of wipes or decide to give my face a thorough cleanse before a home facial.
The product comes in a white plastic bottle with a green plastic flip top lid. On the front is the Simple logo and in green writing underneath it tells you that it is kind to skin purifying cleansing lotion with vitamin goodness. The back of the bottle tells you a bit about the product, application directions, the ingredients, bottle size (200ml), shelf life (12 months) and some contact information for the brand.
The product itself is a white lotion. It is perfume and colour free and has a usual lotion consistency. To apply simply open the flip top lid and squeeze the desired amount onto cotton wool and gently cleanse with upward an outward movements until all traces of make up are removed. The bottle says to follow by using a soothing facial toner and use morning and night.
- No perfume or colour
- No harsh chemicals
- Dermatologically tested and approved
- Contains pro vitamin B5 which restores, softens and smoothes.
- Contains no animal derived ingredients
- Suitable for sensitive skin
- Contains bisabolol which soothes and calms
- Contains allantoin which softens and protects.

Price and availability.
It is available from most beauty stores, on line and supermarkets and usually retails around £2.99 for 200ml. Superdrug currently have it on offer at £2 and Boots currently have a 3 for 2 offer on.
This is a great cleansing lotion. especially if you have sensitive skin. It cleanses skin well and leaves it feeling soft. 5 stars.
On another three for two offer on the Simple range, I decided to try out Simple's purifying cleansing lotion. I saw it as merely another lotion, and decided to use it as such, before realising that it is not exactly meant to be a body lotion. The instructions on the back of the bottle advise to use a toner after applying the lotion, which is usually used before you apply a lotion. I have therefore come to think of it almost as a moisturising body wash.
The cream is white and thinner than the Simple Derma body lotion. It is contained in a plastic squeezy bottle with a flip-top lid. The cream itself is quite cool upon application and spreads quite easily across the skin. It has not irritated my skin, and is therefore suited to sensitive skin as it claims to be.
Following the instructions on the back, I used toner afterwards, but then had to use more moisturiser as the toner removed most of the lotion. The whole process just felt a bit messy. It felt as though there was just too much on my face, and it did not make a difference to my skin. Having to use extra moisturiser just did not make much sense. Since then, I have decided to use it simply as a moisturiser for my body. The lotion is too thin to use on my face, even though it does not irritate, and therefore more applications are necessary, so I am sticking to using the Derma body lotion or hand cream on my face, and the cleansing lotion on my body. I apply it onto my skin after I have a shower, and my skin does feel moisturised, soft and fresh. For my naturally dry skin, the moisture usually lasts a couple of hours, before reapplication is needed. A pea-sized amount is not enough, a nice big blob on each limb and body will do the trick.
The cream has no added fragrance, but does have that lotion smell to it, which does linger on the skin. The top does get a bit messy, but not as messy as the derma creams do, so you won't have to worry too much about cleaning the nozzle. This cream is available in a 200ml bottle which can last around two months if you only apply this once or twice a day. Overall this is not a bad lotion, but is still not one I would recommend with enthusiasm, it will do if you can't find anything else.
I tend to use a cleansing lotion each morning and evening for my face, using a face wash just occasionally as I find this is better for my skin.
In Waitrose a few months ago they were offering Simple cleansing lotion with a toner for £3 (the normal price for just the cleanser!) so I thought I would try them.
Simple is a brand which is apparently "simple" in the terms that it has no colour or perfume added to it and is supposed to be kind to the skin with no extra chemicals or ingredients that aren't deemed essential to the product. They also state that none of there ingredients are animal derivatives and although they don't state on the packaging they do not test on animals, on there website they clearly state the do not. They apparently do not want to be listed with organizations that inform people of who tests and who doesn't as they don't want to be connected with any particular other company and not another.
***** THE PACKAGE ****
The cleanser comes in a plain white 200ml bottle with a green flip top lid and green writing. Very simple to match it's name and is clear to see which brand it is amongst the others on the shelf. The bottle is a solid white colour and so the only downside is that you can't see how much is left, but it is easy to squeeze and the flip lid is substantial enough that when coming to the end, you can stand it on it's top.

They cleverly high-light words in darker green that your eyes pick out, like vital vitamin and purifying, the words that you want to here when looking for a product to try - and it works it drags you in and gets you to read the rest. I am impressed with the information not too much but enough to say it is a product that claims t soften and protect whilst cleansing away the dirt and grime of your day. Which to be fair is all a cleanser needs to be really.
They do give a list of the ingredients and a set of instructions on how to use, which basically is with a cotton pad in upward and outward movements, this way you don't go over bits or re-wipe grime into your freshly cleansed face!
The address is given, made in the UK and the website www.simple.co.uk

Pure white in colour, which is good seeing as it's not supposed to be coloured! It squeezes out well and is not too runny but is a thick lotion in my experience which I like as it stays on the pad and is easily manipulated around your face where needed.
Works very well on removing daily grime and is pleasantly refreshing after a night's sleep as there is no strong smell to contend with. You will be surprised at how much dirt comes off your face onto the wipes even when you think you haven't done very much!
With regards to make-up I find it removes mine no problem even water proof mascara although I do go over it a couple of times. It has had no affect on my skin, which can be a little sensitive at times. No redness or irritation from this product so I believe it does live up to its claims. No greasy residue left on my skin but a soft sheen and my skin does feel soft but I tend to use the toner afterwards, which they recommend to give the full package of cleansing.
The product is normally priced at around £3 for 200ml which I feel is a good price as the bottle lasts me a few months with twice daily, most days usage.
They also do a variety of other products like make-up remover and facial wipes along with moisturizers.
In my opinion this is an excellent cleanser that I would be happy to recommend and use again.
Review posted on ciao and dooyoo under the same username.
It is no surprise that I am in LOVE with simple products. I love the brand, the products, the way they make my skin feel and everything they stand for. But this isnt a reveiw of simple in general this is a reveiw on their cleanser....
I originally bought this a while ago because it was on offer and it was my first simple purchase, I have since gone on to buy nearly their whole range which should tell you how pleased I was with it. Still want more details? Ok then.
The cleanser is 200ml which lasts me ages! The bottle is white with a green lid and all the main information on the front, the brand, what it is etc. Then like on all simple products it has the 3 main points: 1 vital vitamin, 2 skin loving nutrients, 0 purfume or colours. On the back of the bottle it gives you more information on the product and how to apply it and the ingredients.
It says you should use it morning and night and I found I got the best results from using it like this.
The thing I love most about simple products is the way it makes my skin feel. The cleanser gets so deep into my pores that it gets rid of any dirt or leftover makeup that washing or make up wipes dont. I like to use a make up wipe, and then cleanse and tone just to remove the last few traces of foundation or dirt.
It leaves my skin feeling smooth and soft and prevents me from breaking out in black heads. I always follow up with a toner and moisturiser just to get the best results.
I would recommend this to anyone and the perfect thing is it can be used on even sensitive skin. I would and have bought this again cannot recommend high enough.
Simple Products/Cleansing Lotion

I have been using Simple products for well over 8 years now and the reason for this is that their products are always kind and gentle to my skin. None of their products contain perfume, colour or unnecessary ingredients or no harsh chemicals. That's means their products are suitable for people with sensitive skin like me. I use a wide range of their products which can be purchased from most supermarkets, pharmacies and local shops as well. Their products are packaged in very simple packaging which stands out from other brands.
The cleansing lotion has a blend of active ingredients and vitamin goodness to gently cleanse drier types of skin to keep it smooth and soft. This makes the product perfect for even sensitive skin. The Cleanser itself contains Pro-Vitamin B5 which actively restores, softens and smoothes skin. It also contains 2 skin loving ingredients which are Bisabolol, which smoothes and calms and Allantoin which softens and protects skin.

This can be purchased online or in store from Boots for £2.99 which is for a 200ml bottle of the Cleansing Lotion. They often have the Simple products on offer in Boots so I always try to stock up on the products during the offers.

The Cleansing Lotion comes in a tall white bottle which is very plain looking on the front is states that the product is made by Simple and is kind to skin. On the back of the bottle it gives you a list of ingredients and some more information about the product itself. It tells you how to use the product for best results. The lid to the bottle is great with Simple engraved on it. This flips open to reveal a small hole in which the lotion can be squeezed out. The bottle is made from plastic and is slim rather than rounded.
Using the Product
= = = = = = = =
For best results use the product morning and night by applying to a cotton wool pad and gently cleanse the skin in an upward and outward motion. Follow with the Simple Kind To Skin Soothing Facial Toner.
I use this product every morning and evening as recommend. I squeeze a small amount of product onto a cotton wool pad. The lotion comes out quite quickly so you need to be careful how hard you squeeze the bottle. The lotion is a white colour and looks thick, but not as thick as moisturiser. It doesn't have any kind of smell to it. I swept the cotton wool pad over my face as suggested. The lotion felt cold against my skin; how-ever it felt as though it was doing a good job of cleansing my skin. After doing this, I then looked at the cotton wool pad and was surprised at the dirt on the cotton wool pad. The lotion was really kind to my skin and didn't cause any irritation or reactions to it. My skin felt smooth & soft and it felt cleansed. It also felt a little refreshed as well, due to the lotion being nice and cold.
= = = = = = =
After using the cleansing lotion I could see how much dirt was left on the cotton wool pad which surprised me. I have to admit that I also do use the Facial Toner as suggested after using the cleansing lotion. I find that these products together leave my face feeling cleanser, smooth, soft and refreshed. I use this every morning and every night without fail along with the toner and I don't ever, really have any break-outs which tells me that the product is doing a fantastic job at cleansing my skin as well as when I see the dirt on the cotton wool pad afterwards. I have been using this product for well over 5 years now and have never been disappointed with it. Even though I use it every morning and every night the bottle lasts me at least a month, if not longer. I highly recommend this product in the Simple range and would suggest others to use it. You can choose whether you want to use this with the toner or not, I chose to because it recommends it but you don't have to. This is another great product from Simple and deserves the full 5 stars!

**The cleansing lotion**
I thought I would try the simple range as they have few chemicals to be kinder to sensitive skin. At around £3.50 a bottle it is not overly expensive and they have a large range of products to choose from. The simple range is available from most stores including supermarkets, boots and Superdrug. They are often on promotion I brought mine as part of a 3 for £5 offer. It has a simple squeeze bottle that dispenses the product slowly and as the lotion is rather thick meaning it does not just spill out of the bottle.
As mentioned before this cleanser is really thick in consistency. This threw me a little as I expected it to be more of a liquid than a cream but it does make for easier application. I find you only need a little bit of the product and it really does spread over the skin easily. It does work to remove makeup but is useless against waterproof mascara but I have only ever found a few cleansers that are able to remove it with ease. As you only need small amounts at a time my bottle has lasted forever I do only use it now and then but it has still lasted well. To use you are advised to place the lotion on a cotton wool pad and gently cleanse upward and outward morning and night. I find this cleanser a little heavy for day to day use as it feels more like a moisturiser than cleanser. It does feel soothing but not at all like it is cleaning my skin the cotton buds tell a different story and you can see that it picks up any dirt on your skin. I just find as it is more of a cream it sits too heavy on my skin and using it as part of s skin routine leaves my skin feeling blocked up. The outside of my skin feels smooth and refreshed while feeling hydrated but I just find it does not feel like a deep clean like other cleansers I own do.
There is a residue left behind after you apply this cleanser no matter how little I use it feels clammy and sticky. My skin does feel soft but the residue feels strange on my skin evening after rinsing my face I can feel it sitting on my skin. I find it takes a little while to sink in to my skin even if I use a tiny amount I can still feeling it as it is an almost a greasy result for up to 20 minutes after I apply it. There is no visible difference to my skin maybe a little shine but that is about it. I do find this a little better in the colder months as it moisturising my skin and adds moisture but the residue left behind really puts me off. The main reason I use this cream is when my skin has a breakout. Although I do not really like it for day to day use if my skin flares up and I add some of this lotion to the area I find it works extremely well. It helps reduce redness straight away and the cool cream sooths the area. Then any redness is reduced within minutes slowly reducing until it disappears. I always make sure I have a bottle as I love it for this reason.
I like this cleanser for using on breakouts but other than that it is far too heavy for day to day use. I do find that as it is a thick consistency my skin does just not agree with it. It is simple and sensitive to skin with no un needed chemicals or fragrances meaning there has never been any irritation to my skin which is great. It is widely available with a lot to choose from in their range. I would recommend this cleanser but for occasional use rather than day to day. I have combination skin and this is maybe why it does not work too well for me but other skin types may have a better reaction.
When it comes to cleansing lotion for my face I usually buy Tesco own brand, it is one I have used for a while now and it has always suited my skin, however I recently went to purchase another bottle to find that they had run out. After having a look around for an alternative I decided to buy Simply Purifying Cleansing Lotion, it is a brand I used several years ago but for some reason stopped and switched brands, I knew that this suited my skin so I purchased a bottle.
The Simple Purifying Cleansing Lotion comes in a white plastic bottle, it has a transparent green lid on top with the cap being made from a dark green plastic and has the name Simple on it. The bottle has the name Simple written at the top with the words "Purifying Cleansing Lotion" written just underneath, there is further information about the cleansing lotion written towards the bottom of the bottle, all of this information is written in various shades of green. The back of the bottle contains all of the product information including statements about the product, the directions for use and the ingredients, again all of this information is written in green. All of the information on both the back and the front of the bottle is printed on a clear label meaning that it stands out against the white background.
The Cleansing Lotion
The Cleansing Lotion is white and of a reasonable thickness meaning it does not run off of the cotton wool when you squeeze it on. The Simple range is described as being kind to skin and is ideal for sensitive skin, it contains vital vitamins, skin loving nutrients and no colour or perfume, this cleansing lotion contains active ingredients which will gently cleanse drier skin leaving it feeling smooth and softened. There is a small box on the back of the bottle stating what each ingredient does, this includes
* Pro-Vitamin B5 - actively smoothes, softens and restores.
* Nutrients Bisabolol - Softens and calms.
* Nutrients Allantin - Softens and protects.
* No perfume, colour, harsh chemicals no unnecessary ingredients so it will not upset your skin.
* Dermatologically tested and approved.
As stated the lotion has not smell or colour to it at all so I was confident that it would be ideal for my skin, whilst I don't actually suffer with sensitive skin I do find the skin on my face dries out from time to time so I was hoping that its creamy texture would help with this and smooth and soften the dry patches.
Directions for Use
The directions of use are clearly printed on the back of the bottle, although how to use the cleanser is pretty much the same as any type of facial cleanser, however the directions stated that this product should be used both day and night by applying a small amount onto cotton wool and gently cleansing you face in an upwards and outwards motion. Simple does suggest using Simples Kind to Skin Facial Toner afterwards, personally I do not use this product. I find just a small amount of the cleansing lotion is needed on a piece of cotton wool at a time.
Price and Availability
Personally I have purchased my Simple Cleansing Lotion from my local Tesco as I had been planning on purchasing a different brand, however this product is also available in most supermarkets and shops such as Superdrug and Boots. The 200ml cost just £2.00, this is a bit more expensive compared to the brand I usually buy however I do still personally think it is very good value for money, it is a lot cheaper than some other brands available and I do find the bottle to be very long lasting, in fact it does last a bit longer than my regular brand.
I have been using the Simple Purifying Cleansing for a few weeks now as my regular cleansing lotion hasn't been available and I have been extremely pleased with it, it has successfully kept my skin cleansed, it removes any make up that I am wearing and after I have used it my skin feels clean, fresh and soft especially if my skin is feeling a bit dry. The fact that the cleanser has no perfume or fragrance is ideal as I know that it is unlikely to cause me any irritation, I had no problems using this product at all. I found the Simple Cleansing Lotion very long lasting making it excellent value for money. This is definitely a product that I would consider purchasing in the future and would recommend it to anyone.
This is the cleanser I use every night after using the Simple eyemakeup remover which I have reviewed on here previously. It is called a Purifying cleansing lotion but I don't really understand why this purifies the skin more than any other effective cleanser would. I can't see any result from the 'purifying' element of the cleanser.
It comes in a 200ml bottle and costs £2.99 which is a very reasonable price to pay for a cleanser. The bottle is white and plastic and the writing on the front is green. If you're familiar with other 'Simple' products then you would recognise this to be part of their range. There is a flip top lid which is easier to open than a screw top lid. It is easy to flip the lid open but I will say that little bits of cleanser can gather around the hole that it comes out of which can get sticky over a while. I just remove this with a tissue if there is a build up, but it is worth pointing it out.
The cleanser is a bright white colour and is quite glossy looking. It is a fairly stiff cream when it is squeezed onto a cotton pad but it goes a long way on your face. I think this is a very effective cleanser as if I try and cleanse my skin a second time, with another cotton pad and the cleanser, no make up goes onto the pad which proves it got it all off the first time.
It does not leave a greasy appearance on your skin and it is quite hydrating although I always follow with a moisturiser anyway. It has a nice, fresh aroma to it too.
I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a cheap, effective cleanser, suitable for all kinds of skin due to its delicate nature.
It is available in Boots and most supermarkets.
While I prefer to use a foaming face wash, I also like to keep a cleansing lotion around for days when my skin feels very dry and sensitive, as I find cleansing lotions to be more gentle on my skin than foaming face washes. As my Clean & Clear cream wash was almost finished, on a recent trip to Boots I picked this cleansing lotion up.
What Simple Says
Our Purifying Cleansing Lotion is a perfect blend of ingredients to gently cleanse drier skin to help keep it smooth and softened. Perfect for even sensitive skin. Our special blend of Simple cleansing goodness containing Pro-Vitamin B5, Bisabolol and Allantoin, helps to soften and gently cleanse the skin.
No perfume, no colour. No unnecessary ingredients so it won't upset your skin. Dermatologically tested and approved.
The cleansing lotion comes in a standard Simple bottle-opaque white bottle with a green screw on lid. Once you remove the lid, there is a small hole through which the lotion is dispensed. There are two problems that I have with this packaging: Firstly, it is not possible to see how much of the product you have used up/have left. Secondly, since the bottle is upright and doesn't rest on its lid, it's difficult to get the product out of the bottle when you don't have much left. The bottle is quite simple and nothing fancy.
The Cleansing Lotion
The consistency of the lotion is different from what I expected-I was expecting a somewhat thick, creamy lotion, but the lotion is actually quite runny, so you do have to be careful when dispensing to make sure you don't dispense too much. To use, I just squeeze some onto a cotton pad and then wipe over my face. After that I apply toner to get the remains of the cream off of my face. It removes make-up very effectively, and you can see your make-up come off onto the cotton pad. The one problem I have with this cleansing lotion is that I can feel it on my skin after use, which is not the case with regular face washes that you rinse off, and so my skin doesn't feel 100% clean and almost feels greasy. However, that probably is not the case as I have not had any breakouts while using this. It doesn't dry my skin out like foaming face washes sometimes do. In fact, my skin feels quite soft after using this.
Price and Availability
The 200 ml bottle can be bought at most supermarkets and chemists, and I bought mine from Boots where it is currently retailing for £2.99 and is also on a 3 for 2 offer.
I do like this cleansing lotion and I would purchase it again as it does a good job of cleaning my skin without drying it out, and hasn't irritated my sensitive skin. It also removes make-up really well. I don't really like the way my skin feels after using this, but this is just a personal thing, and other people might not feel this way. The price is quite reasonable, and the product is occasionally on offer. Bottom line is, it works well so I would recommend it.
