This is another of my recent skin ceuticals purchases. I would say this is one of the products I am moderately happy with. It is the lower end of the price range within the brand (which was probably part of the appeal) and I do love a face mask so I knew I had to try it.
The design of the product is rather simple, like most of the items in this brand. I like the fact that they focus more on the product than the way it looks because this gives me faith that the product will be of a high quality. The pot is lightly frosted with a silver metal lid that twists on and off. I like the jar design as it makes it really easy to get all of the product out of the container. I also think the lid is very good as it feels secure and I would not be nervous travelling with it. I also like the simplicity of the design, it looks expensive without being gimmicky or gaudy and would certainly make an excellent looking gift for someone.
The masque uses mostly natural ingredients, kaolin clay and bentonite are some of them, to help reduce oiliness in skin and create a fresh, youthful effect. It is very effective in terms of leaving your face feeling fresh and healthy. I'm not sure I can comment at the reduction in oiliness as I do not suffer from oily skin. However, the product does leave my skin feeling dry afterwards so I would imagine it does work as it says. After removing the masque my skin does feel tighter and perhaps a little dry. I do generally moisturise straight away afterwards to combat this and it doesn't really present a major problem for me as I only use the product once a week. I think if you used it more regularly you might find it leaves your skin feeling a little dry and dehydrated, but then I wouldn't advise using it this regularly if only because of the price. It makes my skin feel instantly smoother and gives me a lovely even complexion. I found it sensitive to my skin which can sometimes be dry and irritable. I would advise testing the product if you do suffer from sensitive skin as the price means it is quite an investment. However, based on my experiences I never found it to irritate my skin.
I was a little apprehensive before using this product that the clay might make it particularly flakey and would basically create an absolute mess. I was pleasantly surprised to find a very smooth creamy consistency to the product that dries hard but does not flake. It is very easy to apply to your face and can be left for anything between 5-20 minutes depending on how deep you want your skin cleansed. It washes off very easily although it does take a couple of goes with some water to remove it all.
The product is roughly £28 for a 60 ml pot. This is probably where my problem with the product lies. I do think it is a quality product but I know for a fact there are cheaper face masks on the shelves which offer probably a similar level of quality. It doesn't stand out enough for it to warrant such a high price and that is very disappointing.
So, overall? I wouldn't buy it again but I am happy I tried it.
There is a wonderfully cleansing feeling I get when using this clay mask from Skin Ceuticals which is a good job really because at £29.99 you expect a quality product and this one does not disappoint.
It combines Kaolin Clay and Bentonite that cat to absorb excess oils in the skin and also remove dirt to leave my skin feeling very healthy and refreshed. Partly this is because using the mask helps to improve blood flow beneath the skin so giving it a more healthy glow to it. I find my skin is a little bit tighter after using this product and that also helps to contribute to the smooth feel that I get and the healthy glow. The product also contains Aloe Vera which helps to mositurise my skin although after use I always use a moistuiriser of some sort to complete my health care regime. The Aloe Vera is also effective at ensuring the skin does not react to the mask so this product is suitable if you have sensitive skin as mine can be at times.
The texture of the product is a little gritty which gives it a very smooth clay feel. It is not crumbly though like clay, rather a rich cream with little bits of grit in it. It is easy to apply and given the price you want to apply it sparingly to make it last as each jar has 60ml of product.
Before applying I always cleanse my skin and then I apply a smooth layer to my face and neck and leave it for 15 minutes to work its magic. For me it is a once couple of weeks operation and it is recommended to use it a maximum of twice a week. The packaging is nice and simple, a frosted glass jar with a silver screw top lid. The only downside for me is that it does not smell very nice. To remove you just use warm water and a cloth and it comes away pretty easily but can be a bit messy.
This product has a wonderful cleansing feel to it, I would probably not recommend it for those with dry skin as it could be a bit too efficient at extracting oils from the skin. I tend to use it if my skin has become greasy after wearing lots of make up.
I would certainly recommend this to those with greasy skin as it does work at improving the condition of my skin.
I was not very familiar with the SkinCeuticals brand, but a friend recommended this mask to me after I was complaining about my skin.
It is a clay mask that combines natural high quality clays to cleanse your pores and remove impurities from your skin. There are also other ingredients designed to help soothe and calm your skin.
The mask is designed for weekly use, however I would tend to use it less often that this as I really only use it when I notice my skin breaking out, probably once or twice a month.
You put a thin layer of the mask on your skin and leave it on for about 10-15 minutes. The mask does not dry hard like other face masks. This is good as your face doesn't feel tight and dry when you're wearing it. However this can take a bit of getting used to as I tend not to time my masks and just take them off when they feel dry.
After using the mask my skin felt smooth and it looked very clear, the major plus with this mask is its long lasting effect, your skin feels great for days.
The mask costs about £25 for a 60ml pot but as you only need to use a thin layer each time, it will last for a long time.
Skinceuticals is still quite a new company in the wider scheme of things, having only started trading since 1997. Despite this fact, it has already become one of the leaders of the higher end of the beauty market and is widely respected by experts. It uses both scientific knowledge and natural ingredients to solve the beauty dilemmas of all skin types for both the face and the body. I had bought one of their toners before and was very impressed so I wanted to try another product and I chose the Clarifying Clay Masque.
What does the product do?
The product is designed to perform a complete and thorough cleansing action on the skin, removing all signs of impurities and excess oils. It promises to leave the pores unclogged and the skin able to breathe while natural ingredients calm and heal any imperfections. It claims to leave the skin in a better condition, purified and glowing with health.
How does the product work?
Both Kaolin Clay and Bentonite are ingredients which are frequently used in facial masks because they are incredibly absorbent substances. The clays effectively act like little hoovers and suck all of the dirt, impurities and excess oils out of the skin, leaving it clear and clean. They also improve the bloods circulation meaning that your complexion will look healthier and more oxygen will be pumped into the skin cells. The clays also leave the skin feeling much softer.
Glycerin is present because it is a humectant. This means that it draws any moisture into the skin and allows it to be retained even in the deepest layers. By keeping the skin hydrated, it means that wrinkles and fine lines won't form and that the skin can hold onto its elasticity. The product also contains 5% Hydroxy Acids which banish any dead or dull skin cells from the surface of the face and leave the complexion brighter, while reducing the chance of pores becoming clogged and blemishes forming. It leaves the skin feeling softer and also reduces the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.
Zinc Oxide is included because of its ability to tone the skin, reducing the size of the pores and therefore the amount of excess oil that is produced. It helps to soothe the skin, heal acne and calm down inflammation of the skin. Aloe Vera also performs a healing and soothing action on the face while moisturising it deeply. It prevents the skin from prematurely aging and nourishes it with vitamins. Chamomile is present for much the same reasons while Mixed Fruit Extracts act as antioxidants and leave the skin in a better condition.
How do you use the product?
The product is to be applied to skin that has already been cleansed in order for the masque to work its way deep into the pores. A thin layer is to be smoothed onto the face and neck, and even the chest although I have not used it on this area yet. If you are using the product on the neck you'll need to tie your hair up first as I ended up getting into a right mess. The product needs to be left on the skin for fifteen minutes and then rinsed away thoroughly. It can be used as a targeted treatment and applied directly to oily, spot prone areas or on top of a blemish. The product should be used no more than twice weekly.
Packaging and Price
The product is packaged within a frosty glass jar which has a silver screw top lid. The packaging means that the masque can be easily accessed and you can control the amount of product that you want to use so that there will be no wastage. On the jar, there is just the name of the product and a little bit of information so it is quite plain but it still manages to look expensive.
I bought mine for £30 and for that money, I got 60ml of the product so it is fairly expensive but as it is not to be used daily, then it should last you a long time. It is available from a few online websites but I haven't ever seen it being sold in the shops so I don't think the price will vary much from the price at which I purchased it.
The product has a thick, rich and creamy consistency that is slightly gritty to the touch. It covers the skin well and it is easy to apply the product to the face without getting yourself in too much of a mess. The fragrance of the product is fairly unpleasant but it is subtle and faint enough not to make the process of having it so close to your nose for fifteen torturous.
While the product is on the skin, it feels comfortable and there is no tingling sensation, stinging or itchiness. This must mean that this product is good for use on those with sensitive skin as it didn't cause me any discomfort whatsoever. This mask doesn't dry or become solid as some do so you don't have to worry about keeping your face still to prevent it cracking.
The masque is fairly easy to remove. I use a warm flannel to get the majority of the product off and then rinse away the rest with warm water until I am sure that it has all gone. After that I splash my face with cold water to ensure that my pores are closed again. When the product is removed, my skin doesn't feel tight or irritated but there is a little redness, although this dies down fairly quickly.
The first thing I noticed about the condition of my skin was that it had dried out patches of my face. I have oily skin but there are little patches on my forehead, nose and chin that are often dry and this product made those areas flaky. I think this masque would be too drying for those with a dry skin type and anyone who uses it will need to follow it up with a good moisturiser.
Because of this reason, I tend to use the masque as a targeted treatment, applying it only to those areas of my face which have enlarged pores and those areas which become oily. I will also sometimes use it directly on top of a blemish in order to banish it more quickly. When used in this way, the product is fantastic.
The masque is extremely cleansing and my face feels really fresh after use. It deeply cleans my pores and reduces them in size and this is visibly noticeable when looking up close. It has made my skin much clearer and less blemishes are forming, although I have to say I don't get an awful lot of spots anyway. My skin is less oily and remains so for quite a few hours and my complexion looks much more healthy and radiant. It feels really soft and smooth to the touch and it looks like it is really clean.
The only other disappointment with this product, other than the drying action, is that the results are not long lasting. My skin looks clean, fresh and radiant but it is back to normal by the following day, as is the oiliness of my skin. Because this product is not a daily treatment, I find myself using it for special occasions when I need my skin to look at its best.
All in all this is a really good facial mask that is best suited to oily skin. It leaves your skin really clean, clear out the pores and reduces oiliness and the formation of blemishes. It leaves the skin looking healthier and radiant, and leaves it feeling soft and smooth. It can be too drying for some people's skin type, however you can use it as a targeted treatment. I am very happy with the results that it has given me and I will be repurchasing the product once mine has all gone.
Eventhough I bought this my mum I still steal it on occasion not because I particularly need it as I already use high quality products on my skin I just like using it for a change to break up my routine, I'm one of those people. You can purchase 60ml of this product from anywhere to £23-36 online it really does range from site to site I bought it from eBay though as I recall it was the cheapest at the time.
The product is a weekly use clay masque and includes the same main ingredients of all the SkinCeuticals products. This Clarifying Clay Masque is a non-drying masque that combines kaolin and bentonite, high quality natural earth clays, & is meant to be suitable for all skin types but would probably benefit people who suffer from acne best as it helps to decongest pores.
The botanical extracts are of aloe and chamomile to provide anti-inflammatory properties aswell as calming and soothing the skin with the acids to also exfoliate dead skin cells.
I apply the masque without cleansing or toning eventhough it advises you to do so because as I said before I only use the masque when I'm tired of my usual daily skin regime. I apply a thin layer to my face and neck but leave out the chest although you can do this area too, I choose not too though. You avoid the eye and lip areas as with all clay masques and then leave it to set for 10-15 minutes. After waiting the advised time I rinse the masque off with warm water.
I don't use it weekly because it does take longer than my usually skin routine but if I have the time I will apply it to break up the monotony. I do notice my skin feeling just as clean and calm as when I use my cleanser and toner and it can get to those deep pores that may be alittle blocked. A really good product & if you're into clay masques it's certainly one to try!
