Another of my recently purchased and reviewed Skin Ceuticals products - and this one if a firm favourite. I actually don't tend to use a toner regularly and I think the fact that I liked it so much anyway reflects well on the product.
The product comes in a white plastic bottle with black spray pump and clear lid. The design is inoffensive and functional. The fact that the product has such a simple design and yet such a large price makes me immediately assume all the money is spent of refining and perfecting a great product. This isn't a gimmicky product designed to make you spend more than you need to, they create a simple design and great product in the hope that once you've tried it you'll be hooked, and I think I am.
My immediate reaction to the toner is the smell - it is described as fragrance free but I don't think that is strictly true. It does have a smell though not one that is easily distinguishable, it smells synthetic almost and this is probably due to the different chemicals used in the product. I don't actually find the smell particularly offensive but I think for a more expensive product they could probably do with adding a light floral note to it just to make it a little more pleasant. That said, it did not put me off using the product at all.
The spray pump is very effective at dispensing the toner mist over your face. I think it is far easier to use than other similar products because all you need is the spray, rather than an array of additional things to apply it with. I liked the feel of the product, it is not at all oily or greasy and feel very light and refreshing. It is a great product for summer or holidays but I think if you used it in winter it might dry out your skin. It absorbs into the skin pretty quickly leaving you with soft skin that can have other products applied to it within 5 minutes. Overall I really like the effect if has on my skin. It seems to visibly reduce pores, and this is not even a problem I particularly suffer from. It also makes my skin look younger and brighter and gives me a great even base upon which I can apply my makeup. Like many of the skin ceutical product I find them good for sensitive skin, I often have quite dry skin and this product did not irritate any broken parts. I think if you do have sensitive skin it is always advisable to test the product before purchasing where possible because if you invest in this one and it does irritate your skin you have paid quite a lot for it. That said, based on my experience I would say that it is sensitive to irritated skin.
The price for this product is £28 for 240ml. There is no denying there are cheaper products on the market but I have to say having never really used a toner consistently before because I've never found a good one this is definitely a more effective product. You are paying for quality which in this case I am happy to do.
I would buy it again because it does wonders for my skin.
This is the final item out of the Skin Ceuticals goody bag I won back in July, I'm not much of a toner kinda girl but I used it to (hopefully) help with some enlarged pores that had developed after I used a particularly scratchy face scrub.
It has a typical Skin Ceuticals smell, clinical and unisex but strangely pleasant. The toner comes in a spray bottle and dispenses a fine mist across your face - more hygienic than using your fingers and saves rooting around for cotton wool! The spray leaves your skin as damp as any other product, it's ready to apply foundation over after around five minutes and dries to leave no residue or tackiness. I actually think this is a great way to apply toner, it's not only a novelty but the mist seems to revitalise and refresh my skin immediately after spraying - just remember to close your eyes before spraying as it bloody hurts if this stuff gets in your eye!
The toner has surprised me as it really does make a difference to the appearance of my skin. The enlarged pores closed up within a week of me starting to use it, this was impressive as I'd tried several products to combat this problem with no success. My skin looks brighter immediately after using the toner, although this effect only lasts for a couple of hours so you do have to recognise the best time to use it. I can't say I've noticed any difference in the tone or feel of my skin, but then again I never can when it comes to toners - I remember when they used to be called astringent (as some still are), astringents would always make the skin of your face feel pleasantly tight but this one (and the majority of modern toners) don't do this anymore.
This toner feels gentle and soothing, it was lovely in the summer as the mist is cool and refreshing - not so much now the mornings are getting colder but it's liveable! There's no sting or 'nasty' feeling after using the toner and afterwards my skin does feel slightly more nourished than it did before I sprayed this across my face and neck.
The price for this toner is excessive at £28 for a 240ml bottle, the mist is so fine that a bottle lasts for ages - but that's still too expensive for what it is in my opinion.
In my quest for facial skincare products that don't irritate my sensitive skin but still remove the excess oil and prevent spots I came across this Skin Ceutical Toner. I had already tried a couple of their cleansers and once I realised that the calming cleanser was best for me I started trying to choose a toner. This was the first one to be recommended to me and I paid around £22 for a 250ml bottle. I bought mine online and I think there seems to be quite a lot of variation in price, so it's definitely worth shopping around for the best price.
The packaging is quite plain, like all of the Skin Ceuticals products I have so far used. A plain white bottle with a black pump action lid and the standard logo. It's nothing fancy and some people might think that it looks like a bugget product, however, I think it looks quite classy and sophisticated and am more than happy to have it on my bathroom shelf.
To use the product I just squirt a small amount onto a cotton wool pad after cleansing my face and sweep it across my face and neck. I don't ever need to use any more than this so the 250ml bottle has lasted for well over a month. It doesn't have any fragrance, which is what I look for in a product for my face. I use the product morning and night and it hasn't had a bad reaction with my sensitive skin. I have also found that my pores seem to be reduced and I haven't had a breakout of spots since I started using this. On a morning I feel quite refreshed after using it, on an evening it removes the remains of any cleanser and I feel like my skin has been cleaned properly.
The ingredients list includes both aloe vera and witch hazel, so that explains why it is soothing for my sensitive skin (the aloe) and also such a good toner (witch hazel). There are also a whole other load of other botanical ingredients, which is something I like about the Skin Ceuticals range.
All in all a really great toner, I can't recommend it enough!
We all know the importance of cleansing and moisturising our skin but one important step in facial care that is often overlooked is toning. Toning is especially essential if you have been cursed with having oily skin as it can bring quick benefits.
Us oily skin sufferers have the tendency to have a face scattered with enlarged pores and over enthusiastic sebum glands that just don't know when to stop. By choosing a good toner, we can tighten our supersize pores, making our skin look smoother and removing the excess oils and dead cells that are lurking on our skin and could otherwise have led to blemishes developing. But which product should you choose?
The Equalizing Toner by SkinCeuticals is a good place to start. This brand is still a relatively new company that only started trading in 1997 but has jumped straight to the upper end of the beauty product market. The brand promises to produce products that improve and maintain the skin's health through the use of science. Sounded good to me!
SkinCeuticals has very kindly created the Equalizing Toner specifically for use on Combination to Oily skin. Using natural ingredients, it promises to tone and tighten the skin leaving it feeling softer and refreshed. It also claims to remove dead skin cells and impurities leaving your skin glowing with health and free from spots and blackheads. The product is safe to use on even my sensitive and spot prone skin because it is alcohol free, oil free and fragrance free.
How does it work?
The product contains Hydroxy Acids which is a natural substance that is a lot more gentle than it sounds. Its purpose in this solution is to act as an exfoliant removing dead skin cells that are dulling your complexion and works deep into the pores ensuring that they are completely unclogged. It reveals the healthy new skin cells underneath, giving you glowing complexion and allows your skin to breathe.
Witch Hazel is also included which acts as an astringent, tightening both the skin and the pores, leaving your face looking more toned and youthful and giving it smoother surface. It helps to remove redness and give a more even skin tone and as it is an antioxidant then it will fight against free radicals and prevent premature aging. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory, calming puffy skin and strengthening the skins barrier which prevents it from losing moisture.
Rosemary is present in order to rejuvenate the skin, improving the bloods circulation and leaving your skin feeling smoother. It also helps to treat acne because of it anti inflammatory and anti bacterial properties.
Also included is Aloe Vera to cool and soothe the skin. The natural substance helps to heal damaged skin, fights against bacteria and forms a protective barrier in order to prevent further damage. It relieves inflammation and redness and as it is rich in Vitamins, it also nourishes the skin and keeps it looking younger.
Gentle Chamomile is swirled into the mixture in order to soften the skin as well as to reduce puffiness and blemishes. It has an antiseptic quality and enables the skin to heal quickly, leaving it strengthened and in a better condition.
How do you use the product?
The product is be used after cleansing and applied to dry skin. I spray the product onto a damp piece of cotton wool. The reason I dampen the cotton wool is because I find it stop me dragging the delicate skin on my face and because the cotton is already saturated with water, it prevents the product from being totally absorbed into the wool and therefore prevents wastage. I smooth the product all over my face and neck being careful to avoid the eye area and lips. Also occasionally, with my eyes and mouth closed, I spray the product directly onto the face and then wipe it off with cotton wool.
The product comes within a plain white bottle which reflects the purity of what is inside and a similar type of packaging is used throughout the SkinCeutical range. It has a clear lid which is to be removed before use and the product is released via a spray motion when you push down on the top of the bottle.
The product does not come cheap costing around £26. I think in this case however, you are paying for the quality, not just the brand name and you get a fairly hefty 250ml for your money too. The product is available from many online website and you will find it for much cheaper if you take the time to shop around.
This product is incredibly gentle on the skin and yet it still works. It never leaves my skin feeling dry and there is only a slight tingling which accompanies it which is not uncomfortable and shows that it's working. With continued use, my pores look noticeably smaller and therefore my skin is becoming less oily throughout the day.
It doesn't sting or irritate my skin and leaves me with a healthy and smoother complexion and gives me a lovely base on which to apply my make up. The consistency is just right and almost like water, so it leaves no greasy or noticeable sheen on the skin after use. It has helped to clear up my skin and I seem to be developing fewer blemishes. It leaves my face feeling fresh and clean.
I like to use mine first thing in the morning as the product really seems to reduce my puffy morning face and makes me look more awake. The cooling sensation is also very stimulating so I leave the house looking much more alert than I actually feel.
All in all, this product is expensive but it will last you a very long time and it a high quality product. It serves many purposes by preventing and healing spots while exfoliating, nourishing, softening, tightening and cleaning the skin that it makes it work the high price tag in my opinion.
I bought a 240ml bottle of this toner online for only £29.50 but I've found some since on eBay for around £18. I'd bought this toner after trying SkinCeuticals gentle cleanser which is fantastic (see review) and purchased this for after cleansing.
I bought this particular toner because I have combination skin normal/oily if I had dry skin however then I would have bought the revitalising toner which is around £18-25. The toner includes like the cleanser hydroxy acids and botanical extracts of witch hazel, aloe, rosemary & chamomile. The Aloe Vera and Witch Hazel are two plants that I swear by (see reviews) so I was really happy to buy a product that included them both. The formulation of the acids and botanical extracts are supposed to soften, soothe, tone and provide an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal property that would keep skin fresh, balanced and restored.
I only use the toner once a day in the evenings after I've cleansed eventhough it says use twice daily but my skin doesn't need it. When using the toner I apply one spray on to a cotton ball and spread it over my face, neck and chest. Before buying the toner I did use the cleanser on its own for a couple of months before using a toner afterward. When it came to that time of the month I did use the cleanser twice daily as my skin produced more oils but since using the toner after each cleanse my skin however felt balanced for longer. So in the end I stopped cleansing twice daily for that one week and it saved me using extra product which is great as it quite expensive.
My skin is very toned after using the product daily for several months and I will continue to use it as my pores are hardly visible & my skin is looking a lot healthier aswell as being very smooth & soft. Highly recommended, for quality, overall effects and for how long the product lasts!
