“ Brand: Skinology / Type: Cleansing Wipes / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types / What it does: Cleanses, „
I'm a huge fan of facial wipes, particularly as I find them quick and easy to use on those occasions when I'm feeling hot and need to freshen and cool down my skin. I cannot admit to being brand loyal and whilst I've tried some of the more premium ranges, I have found very little comparison with the cheaper brands that I can pick up for around a £1. One of my recent purchases is the Skinology brand, which belongs to Wilkinsons and this review discusses my experience with using their Tea Tree Deep Cleansing Facial Wipes. It was the pale green packaging of the 25 wipes that caught my eyes, which gave me the distinct impression of clean and fresh and I favoured the fact that the wipes contain tea tree, which is known for its highly effective properties with treating skin ailments. The upper section of the packaging offers a pull back sticky tab, which is effortlessly lifted to reveal a good size opening to enable the wipes to be removed. The 20 cm x 17 cm white coloured wipes have been partially folded in such a way that they can be singularly removed, as opposed to half a dozen or so following suit. Whilst the wipes offer sufficient moisture they are a little thinner than I had anticipated and when holding up to my eyes they were almost transparent. They offer the refreshing tea tree aroma, which I find extremely favourable although I'm aware that some people dislike the aroma, so if you don't like tea tree these are definitely not for you. I found that one wipe was sufficient to entirely cleanse my face, but an issue I experienced is that it did not smoothly glide over the surface, as the fabric tended to continuously gather up into a ball. I found this rather disappointing and a little strange, as I've never experienced this with any other brand. I overcame this problem by using one finger to hold the wipe where I applied pressure with my finger tip, which enabled me to access any hard to reach areas, such as the corner of my nose. Due to the tea tree inclusion I initially experienced a slight tingling sensation, which I found pleasant, but I cannot report of any stinging or discomfort when using. The moisturise remaining on my skin was rapidly absorbed leaving my skin feeling thoroughly cleansed and free of any grease and grime. I would describe my skin type as T-zone where I suffer with oily patches on my forehead and nose with dry areas on my cheeks. As a result, I had expected to experience a little tightness in my cheeks after using these wipes, but fortunately, this was not the case. Tea tree products can normally be a little drying and whilst my skin was not moisturised, I did not feel the need to apply a hydrating product after use. Located on the reverse of the packaging is a warning that the wipes should not be used on the eyes, so obviously these are unsuitable for removing eye make up. The wipes should be disposed of with normal household waste with the plastic packaging being suitable for recycling. Unlike other brands I have used, there is no "use by" information contained on the reverse of the packaging, but I experienced no issues with the remaining wipes drying out due to the fact that the pull back tab offered sufficient stickiness, so I was able to reseal the packet after each use. I found these wipes highly effective although the problem with them gathering into a ball when using was a real frustration and for this reason they receive 3 stars from me. You can purchase Skinology Tea Tree Deep Cleansing Facial Wipes from Wilkinsons where they are priced at £1 for two packets with each containing 25 wipes.
