Advantages: All day protection

Disadvantages: Sticky, difficult to rub in

We all know too much sun can cause skin cancer but sun exposure is also responsible for causing 80% of all visible skin aging so if you don't want to look like an old leather bag then you need to start wearing a sunscreen. A lot of people use the same sunscreen on their body as their face but body sunscreen can be too thick and rich for the face and cause breakouts and reactions for people with sensitive skin so you should really wear a sunscreen designed especially for facial skin.

Soltan once face is a high spectrum sunscreen from boots that is designed to be applied once a day providing UVB and five star UVB protection meaning that not only will it stop the light that causes burning from getting past it but also the different light that causes the ageing.
Soltan contains optisol which is a titanium dioxide containing a small amount of manganese in the crystal lattice. Now I have no idea what that actually means but I know that regular sunscreens start to break down upon contact with the skin while optisol is supposedly designed to allow it to remain stable for longer which is how it offers 6 hours of protection.

The cream itself is actually looks like clay and has a consistency of something like sudacrem. When you apply it you don't need a lot to cover your entire face and neck but it is really thick and not the easiest cream to rub in and absorb. It has quite a powerful scent that I don't really find offensive as it always reminds me of holidays but it may be too overpowering for someone who doesn't like their products to be strong smelling.

A problem for men is when you are not completely cleaned shaven the cream sticks to your stubble which looks a little strange and no matter how much you try to rub it in it stays there.

Once you have managed to rub it in it leaves your face feeling really sticky and gives you a slight Casper the friendly ghost glow meaning that no matter how much you try rubbing it in you will still look like you are wearing sunscreen which is not a problem on the beach but not so good for everyday use.

On its performance I cannot fault it, I am really sensitive to the sun and while wearing this I have never burnt so it does its job on that score however I have ended up really tanned so it obviously doesn't block the rays completely so may be good for people who are wanting to tan without burning but not so suitable for those people who want their skin to remain looking like milk.

It is available in tubes of 50ml in spf30 and you can also get it in spf15/25 that contain a gradual tan so good for those milk bottles wanting to have a bit of colour while building the natural tan slowly underneath.
It is also waterproof for up to 40 minutes so gives you plenty of time for swimming but you do need to reapply if you vigorously towel dry.

Yes it has problems with not being the easiest to rub in and the ghostly colour it leaves on your face but I still use it due to the sheer convenience of being able to apply it in the morning and not have to bother again for the rest of the day, I can never be bothered to reapply sunscreen every 40 minutes so I can put up with its faults.

It is available in most boots stores and online for £9.25 and as its coming up for summer boots currently have it on buy one get one free.

Definitely recommended for those people who like me forget to reapply enough and come home that uniquely British lobster red colour but not really for everyday use.

Summary: Good high spf sunscreen that lasts all day long
