Advantages: Left my skin feeling soft and velvety smooth
Disadvantages: Lack of exfoliating particles, poor scent and my tube split!
I regularly use exfoliating facial scrubs, which have played a big part in my beauty routine for well over thirty years. However, there seems to be a huge gap in the market, as I always find those to be affordable very limited in choice with the exception of the premium brand names. I cannot admit to being brand loyal and will always make my purchases when I see a special offer where I generally tend to pay around the £3 - £4 mark for each tube. I have tried and tested two different brands over the past few months with one belonging to the Tesco Clear Skin range, which is named Exfoliating Face Scrub.
I would describe my skin type as T-zone where I suffer with oily patches on my forehead and nose with dry patches on my cheeks. As a result, I take my time when choosing my products, particularly as I do not wish to use anything that will exacerbate the oiliness and a quick scan of the ingredients list informed me that the scrub is oil free and is suitable for oil skin types. The 150 ml of scrub is contained within a plastic tube that offers a clean and fresh appearance with its vivid blue packaging. Whilst I was not previously familiar with this range, there is a small sticker on the tube advising that the product contains an improved fragrance.
The reason I choose to use facial scrubs is because my skin doesn't feel sufficiently clean without them. In addition, the exfoliating properties are effective at removing any excess dirt and grime that has worked its way into the pores. As previously stated, I suffer with small patches of dryness on my cheeks where the skin can often offer a slight flaky appearance. Consequently, the scrub will gently remove the dead skin cells leaving the surface of the skin soft and smooth. The tube neatly sits on a flip top lid, so the scrub is easily stored when not in use. The lid offers a sturdy hinged area and unlike a few other brands I have used, it is easily flipped open with one hand to enable me to receive the product with the other.
The pearly white good consistency antibacterial scrub is easily dispensed and although Tesco claim that the fragrance is improved, I have to admit that I could barely detect any aroma, which I found bitterly disappointing. My initial impression was that the scrub would not be up to much, particularly as I could see only very sparse exfoliating grains, which were blue in colour. However, I pushed my negative thoughts to the side and proceeded to apply the scrub to my damp skin although it was not easily spread and seemed to clump in small areas, which reminded me of Ready Break.
Exactly as I had anticipated, the exfoliating particles were minimal and as a result, I did not feel that I was effectively applying over all of my skin, so I found myself using twice as much as I would have with any other brand. On a positive note, the scrub was easily rinsed away with the aid of warm water and left the surface of my skin feeling soft and smooth. In fact, I would go as far as saying that the scrub left my skin much softer than any other brand I have used and I would describe its texture as velvety. Whilst some brands of scrubs can be a little drying, particularly on my cheeks, I cannot report of any problems although I will always apply my favourite moisturiser as part of my daily skin care routine.
Despite not being particularly keen on the lack of exfoliating particles, I continued to use the scrub for a further week. However, this came to an abrupt end as whilst dispensing I ended up with the scrub all over the palm of my hand and on closer inspection of the tube I realised that there was an approximate 5 cm split located on the side. This was rather puzzling, particularly as the tube is made of a fairly robust plastic and I hadn't dropped it on the floor. As I did not wish to risk applying the product to my face due to any dust that may have made its way inside, I decided to use the remainder on my body rather than waste it.
Despite my few moans and groans, the quality of the scrub was fair although it did not offer the level of exfoliation that I require and as a result, my skin didn't feel as clean as I would have liked. For the reasons discussed above, I feel a three star rating is appropriate and I will not be making a further purchase. For those consumers who are not as picky as me, you may well like this scrub, particularly as it costs only £2 for a 150 ml, but unfortunately, it's just not for me.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.

Summary: A rather disappointing facial scrub from Tesco
