Tesco Cucumber Cleansing Wipes
Advantages: cheap, effective
I purchased the Tesco Cucumber Cleansing Wipes for two reasons. Firstly they were cheap, and secondly I had read a fair few positive reviews of them, so I felt that they were worth a try.
The wipes come in a white plastic packet with green text and a border depicting cucumber slices. Whilst nothing special, the packaging doesn't scream 'budget' or 'supermarket own brand' which is a positive in my eyes - I want to save money, but I don't necessarily want everyone else to know that! I should also note that despite the fact I am down to the last two or three of the twenty-five wipes in the pack, the resealable tab has not lost any of its stickiness.
Tesco claim the wipes should suit all skin types and are moisturising as well as cleansing, which again is a plus point with me as I have fairly dry skin. The wipes are also formulated to remove make-up and, as stated on the packet that even includes waterproof make up.
Prior to using these wipes I was using Nivea wipes and as soon as I took these out of the packet, I did notice that these ones were thinner. That said, they're perfectly adequate and I can't imagine they are so thin they would rip or disintegrate easily.
The wipes have a scent I have come to associate with cucumber beauty products, but not necessarily fresh cucumber! They're actually quite perfumed and have a fresh, pleasant fragrance to them.
I have been using these wipes around three or four times a week and sticking to my normal cream cleanser and toner the rest of the time. Although I love the convenience of wipes, my skin doesn't feel thoroughly clean if I use them over a long period of time.
With these wipes, as soon as I use them, I find them very cooling on the skin, so they are quite refreshing to use. They are also very effective at removing make-up. Foundation and any powder based make-up - eye shadow, blush, face powder - is removed easily with no effort. When it comes to removing waterproof mascara, I was very surprised to find that these wipes are really effective. I hadn't actually expected them to work as to be honest, in the past most of the wipes I've used have been pretty poor at removing standard, yet alone waterproof mascara. The only downside is that you do have to rub at the lashes and no matter how gently I attempt to do this, I do find it a little uncomfortable, and prefer a liquid make-up remover I can just hold over my eye.
After using these, as well as leaving my skin clean and make-up free, I find that my skin feels very cool and soothed after using these. They don't dry my skin out or have any noticeable negative effects. I usually only need to use one or two wipes per use.
When I purchased these, approximately six weeks ago, I paid just 41p for a pack of 25, which is amazing value. I have just looked these up on the Tesco website and they are now showing at 99p which although still a good price, is quite a price increase!
Overall, I have been very impressed with these. They are cheap, effective and the fact they remove waterproof mascara is a real bonus. A definite thumbs up from me.
Summary: Surprisingly good
