I bought this because I had used the facial wipes and the moisturiser previously and I really quite liked them especially because they were so cheap. The facial wash however was a completely different story and it isn’t something that I wouldn’t even remotely recommend.
The best thing about this face wash is the fact that it is cheap. It only costs £1.50 for a 150ml tube so if it was any good then it would have been great value. I also quite like the packaging as it doesn’t make it look horrendously cheap. The smell is also really good as it smells clean and fresh and completely neutral so suitable for both men and women.
It has a gel like consistency and it lathered well though not as much as I would have liked. I was quite pleased with how this initially felt on my skin as it was easy to massage around my skin and it felt like it was getting into my pores and cleaning them out.
It was only after rising this off my skin that the problems started as it really affected my skin making it red and itchy which took absolutely ages to calm down. I do have slightly sensitive skin but I am ok with most products but there was something in this that really didn’t agree with my skin and it looked awful for absolutely ages after using it.
On top of this reaction I also found it to be really drying on my skin to the point that it left the skin on the side of my nose extremely dry and flaky and it took a huge amount of moisturiser to get it back to feeling normal.
It is a shame that this reacted so badly to my skin because I like the price and the smell but for me it is just something that I wouldn’t risk using again after how it made my skin look and feel.
I often have several different face washes on the go at once as I think changing mine every so often stops my skin getting used to one in particular. It might sound a little odd but I think that if my skin gets used to the ingredients in a product it might not work as well as it does when I first began to use it, so I switch between a couple that I know are reliable and aren't harsh on my sensitive and dry skin.
At just 74p for a 150ml tube in Tesco's I thought this cucumber face wash would be worth a try to add to my small collection. Like a lot of people, I tend to judge quality on the price. High end skin care brands often work well (not always) but also have the price tag to match, so I'd much rather save my money and find something cheaper by a bit of trial and error and also reading reviews to guide me on my way.
The tube for this face wash is pretty basic, it's plain white with grey and green detailing and writing on the front. Crisp white always catches my eye as a fresh and natural product, which is what I hoped this would be. The lid is easy to open and allows just the right amount of product out of the tube for each use. I found that the clear gel product had just a nice consistency to it and wasn't too runny at all.
Being enriched with vitamin E and also being a cucumber face wash which is generally meant to soothe irritation and give a bit more of a radiant look to your skin, I was hoping I was onto a winner with the new found bargain...how wrong was I?!
I used an average amount of the face wash (the same as I'd use with any other) and found it didn't lather up very well. I continued to apply it to my face in circular motions as instructed on the tube and massaged it into my skin. After rinsing it off I could feel a tightness in my skin straight away and it also felt very drying to my skin. About 10 minutes after use my skin went a little blotchy, red and left me with a slight burning sensation on my face. I do have sensitive skin and react to a few things, so I don't know whether it was just my skin type or the product itself. Just to make sure that it wasn't anything else that my skin had reacted to, I tried it again on another occasion paying more attention to what I'd put on my skin beforehand but still found that it had the same affect. It definitely is not suitable for me and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else with sensitive skin either!
Maybe the 74p price tag does have a downside. It was worth a try I suppose.
I always love the smell of cucumber or tea tree so when I saw the cucumber range in Tesco I bought myself the facial wash and facial wipes to try. The facial wash costs 74p for 150mls of the product which I personally think is excellent value.
The product like is say is one of Tesco's own so you can only buy it from them either in store or online, the product comes packaged in a soft plastic tube with a flip top lid on it which I like and find the easiest to use. The tube itself is very simple and is mainly white in colour, all the information on the tube is written in green and it looks really effective in my opinion. It states on the tube "It says that it's a cleansing face wash with cucumber extract and vitamin e and that it's suitable for all skin types."
To use simply flip open the lid and then apply with fingertips to your wet face, there is not much of a distinct smell to the product not like other cucumber products I have used however it does have a fresh clean smell so it isn't unpleasant. The wash is a gel consistency and it lathers up on my face really well, once washed the product is easy to remove from the skin and personally I use a damp flannel to remove it.
I find that my skin feels really clean after using this and the smell lingers subtley on my skin, my skin needs moisturising after I use this product but that isn't an issue as I only use the wash when I am at home so I have moisturisers a plenty nearby. I think there are better facial washes than this as others leave my skin feeling softer however considering the price I paid I think it's a really good budget product.
As I use the cucumber facial wipes from Tesco and I quite like them, this sort of spurred me on to trying out the cucumber facial wash that Tesco also do. I usually remove my make up at the end of the day with facial wipes or a cleansing lotion. However, on some occasions I really like to use water to get a really deep down clean, and this is why I use a facial wash as it's generally speaking anyway, less drying than using soap on my face.
I paid only 74p from Tesco for this foaming wash and it comes in a small, plainly packaged white with green plastic tube. The wash is simple and easy to use and the directions for use are written plainly on the back of the packaging.
I use only a small amount and I rub it between my wet hands to create a gentle foam before applying it to my face (and neck). The wash is a clear gel in colour before it's rubbed together to create the cucumber foam. It doesn't foam as much as some facial washes I have used, but nevertheless, I don't need to use more than a medium sized blob, it just takes a little bit of friction to get the foam into action.
The wash feels gentle and very refreshing on my skin when I first use it and it does appear to gently lift off all of my make up (including eye make up) but no matter how hard I try, it won't shift waterproof mascara. The smell is lovely, very fresh and natural and very similar to the cucumber facial wipes I also use.
Once I have rinsed this wash off, however, my skin starts to feel very tight, very quickly. I need to be able to apply a moisturiser very quickly after having washed and dried my skin and I do feel that this wash is perhaps a little too drying for my particular skin type. Know it's meant to be suitable for all skin types, but personally I feel that it's perhaps better suited to a greasier complexion than mine. The wash in enriched with vitamin E and is meant to be gentle and kind to the skin, so I was quite surprised to find that this has a mildly astringent effect on my skin.
It's handy to take away with you if you are on holidays, as the tube is very small, and its also great to use for a day or so. However, I personally wouldn't want to use this facial wash for more than a few days at a time as I feel it's just too harsh on my skin and definitely makes it feel dehydrated.
Not one of Tesco's better beauty products but I'm still glad I tried it out to see what it's like.
I bought the Tesco cucumber face wash primarily to take with me as a cheap cleanser for work trips away. I travel with work quite a lot, and I've lost count of the number of expensive cleansers I've left in hotel bathrooms when I've checked out. I'm really not a morning person at all, and I always get up at the last minute and then I'm rushing around to get ready, and pack, and check out on the last morning, so I invariably leave something behind, just lately it seems to be cleanser.
So I wanted something cheap, which I wouldn't mind so much if I ended up leaving it behind, but also something that would work and which wouldn't irritate my skin. I was stocking up on the Tesco cucumber face wipes recently and I spotted that Tesco also do a cucumber face wash. I picked up the face wash for just 74 pence. I was happy to give the Tesco cucumber face wash a go as I'm more than happy with the Tesco cucumber face wipes. It is quite a small tube at just 150ml, but hey it was only 74 pence.
It says that it's a cleansing face wash with cucumber extract and vitamin e and that it's suitable for all skin types. Overall I've been happy with this face wash, I wouldn't say that it's the best face wash in the world, it does have some negatives, but for the price it is actually OK.
It's a transparent gel like liquid, and it smells exactly like the cucumber face wipes, it doesn't smell like cucumber as such, it is just a very fresh and uplifting fragrance. The fragrance is quite subtle, it's not too overpowering, and only a hint of the fragrance lingers on my skin for a little while.
To use the face wash I just squirt a blob of the gel into my wet hands, lather it up into a foam, and then wash my face and neck with the foamy lather. I do find that I need to use a much bigger blob of this to create enough foam and lather to adequately wash my face, than I would need to do with my more expensive cleansers. As a result of this it probably won't last all that long, mind you I'll probably leave it behind somewhere anyway!
It does work well, if you use enough of it, and it does remove all traces of my make up (apart from waterproof make up), and all the grime from my face. It does remove any greasiness as well, however I think that it does strip my face slightly as my face does feel slightly tight after washing it with this face wash. I basically have to apply my serum and moisturiser directly after washing my face. It does leave my face feeling nice and clean though. I find that so long as I moisturise straight away then I can get away with using this face wash for few days to a week. I do always switch back to one of my more expensive cleansers when I come home though.
I'm on my second tube of this face wash so far, as you've guessed it the first one was left behind! If I stop travelling so much with work then I will stop buying this as I do only use it when I go away. If you are on a budget though then this isn't a bad cleanser at all for the price.
I have been using the tesco cucumber range of skincare products for a few months now, I'm quite impressed with them. I have tried the face wipes, the toner and the moisturiser aswell.
This facial wash is only 74p for 150ml!
The packaging is nothing special, just basic. Its white with green writing and a picture of some cucumber slices along the top.
I use it every morning in the shower, you only need a little squirt of it and it lathers up very well. The liquid is a clear colour and quite thick. I rub it into my face then rinse off under the shower, it rinses off very easily.
I think it has quite a plain smell, it smells fresh and clean, with just a hint of cucumber.
I would prefer it to smell a bit more like cucumber.
After I've used this my skin feels very clean and fresh.
I think this is a really good product for the price, I'm going to give it 4 stars as I prefer stronger smelling face washes, overall its very good value and I would definitely recommend it, especially if you are on a tight budget.
A few months ago, I started to notice that fresh 'youth glow' of my skin was fading, and I noticed visible pores appearing in certain places on my skin. I had started using a moisturising face cream months before, but realized that cleaning my face with a bit of soap and water was not cutting it anymore, and it was time to find myself a good skin care routine.
With a hectic family life, I needed something that was not time consuming, but also on the cheap side. I cannot afford to spend tens of pounds a month on various pots of miracle cures. During a weekly shopping trip, I wanted my usual packet of make up remover wipes, and spotted a whole range of products that seemed ideal for me, and really cheap, too!
One of the first products I bought was this Cucumber Face Wash. It is a 150ml plastic tube with a flip cap. I do assume the whole range is just called 'Cucumber' as there is no other stand out name on any of the products packaging other than this. The whole range is in white packaging, all the writing is in a soft green, and there is a cucumber patterned design around the top of the tube. It all looks very fresh, simple and 'young'.
Apart from the packaging, what really jumped out at me was the price - just 74p for the tube! Bargain if it works!
The blurb on the back of the tube tells us - ' This range has been enriched with Cucumber extract for its natural moisturising and soothing properties, helping to gently care for your skin. The gentle formulation cleanses your skin, removing impurities, leaving your face feeling fresh and renewed'
So, does it?
To use, I wet my face with warm water, and squeeze a small amount of the wash into my hand. Its a clear gel, not too thick, and not really runny, a good consistency. I then rubbed my hands together, and the gel begins to lather up. It doesn't create a thick foam, just an almost wet soap like look. I then apply it to my forehead, cheeks, chin and nose, and begin to rub into my whole face. Apparently massaging it in in circular movements is the best way to use it. Once my whole face is covered, I rinse it off with warm water and pat my face dry. (Do not get it in your eyes, it stings! The tube says if you do, to rinse out with warm water, which works!)
After the first use, my skin felt smoother, and cleaner, but other than that there wasn't a huge difference. But after a week or so, there was a noticeable difference to my skin, the pores were less visible, it looked and felt younger and there was a glow to it. I cannot put this down to just the face wash, I do think its a mix of the other products I use too (which I am also about to review) but it is definitely working. I have been using the range of products daily for around 6 weeks now and my skin feels great.
The other plus for me is how quick it is, it takes less than a minute to cleanse my face with this, and as a busy mum time is of the essence! My whole skin care routine takes 5 minutes max, morning and night.
For 74p, this is an amazing buy, and something I will continue to buy for a long time, and at those prices it is easy to stock up and just pop a bottle in the trolley every time I do a shop.
* INFO - WHY DID I BUY? *
I regularly buy facial wash and facial scrub products as I like to use such products daily to remove any dirt and residue from my skin before applying my moisturiser. I also regularly use a facial wash product at night time after removing my make-up, as I find that traces can remain and I like my face to feel spotlessly clean to help reduce spot breakouts.
I have tried out a few products in the "Tesco Cucumber" range recently, such as the moist facial wipes and have been suitably impressed with all of them. Whilst I was re-stocking on some of products from the Cucumber range recently I noticed a "Face Wash" product in the same range. I had not seen it before and decided to give it a try out as I have found all the other Cucumber products that I have tried out have been compatible with my skin.
I paid around 75 pence for the generously-sized 150ml tube of Tesco Cucumber Face Wash. I thought this price offered excellent value for such a large tube of product, but of course the proof would be in the results achieved.
The packaging is in keeping with the rest of the products in the Tesco Cucumber range, comprising of a plain white plastic tube, with the familiar cucumber image and product name and details all appearing in a bright green font, offering an attractive contrast against the plain white. The plastic feels quite robust and the 'flip up' lid at the bottom of the tube allows the product to be dispensed easily and quickly.
* MY EXPERIENCE..*
Using the product is very easy. All I need to do is apply a little of the product to wet hands and work into a gentle lather which can be smoothed over my face. This process takes a mere moment, but I have to point out that the Cucumber Face Wash is rather thin in its consistency, so it tends to fall from my hands if I don't act quickly after squeezing it from the bottle!
The wash is similar to a thin 'gel' and it is clear in colour. As soon as the product is squeezed from the bottle, I can smell the refreshing aroma of cucumber which is fairly pleasant. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it is the nicest scent I have ever experienced, but it is rather inoffensive.
Using the Face Wash first thing in the morning has proven to be a pleasant experience however, as the aroma of the product DOES feel slightly refreshing and awakening, so I do think it is perfectly suited to being used at this time of day. When the gel is worked into a lather using wet hands, it foams gently and quickly and there is nothing complicated or difficult about using the product at all.
The Face Wash works very well at cleansing my face thoroughly, and afterwards it feels refreshed and spotlessly clean. I feel that any make-up residue has been removed effortlessly and thoroughly and I have noticed nothing in the way of any irritation or sensitivity to my hyper-sensitive skin from using the product.
The product is described on the reverse of the packaging in the statement "The Gentle Formulation cleanses your skin, removing impurities, leaving your face feeling fresh and renewed." I would agree that the formulation is indeed quite gentle. In addition, I have found that some Face Wash products can be quite 'drying' to my skin after use and they feel rather like they are 'stripping' my face of its natural oils. The Tesco product didn't have this unfortunate quality, and whilst my face felt completely cleansed, I didn't feel the familiar 'tightness' in my skin that other slightly harsher products can leave behind.
The 150ml tube has proven to be quite an economical purchase as it has lasted for three weeks, with there being a very small amount of the bottle remaining. I have used the product at least once a day but sometimes it has been used up to three times a day, so I have no complaints in terms of the product being economical to use.
There is nothing on the packaging to comment on animal testing, which is a bit disappointing given that some of the other large supermarkets perform very well with informing consumers about their policies. I know I could look on the Tesco website, but I don't think it takes much to have a little statement printed on the product so that we know at a glance what Tesco's ethics are in this regard.
Apart from this little niggle though, I have nothing negative to report, and I would recommend giving the Tesco Cucumber Face Wash a try out as I thought it was a fairly good 'everyday' facial cleanser. I did think the product offered excellent value for money, especially considering how long the bottle lasted. I would buy it again as I thought it performed well.
