“ Brand: The Body Shop / Type: Toner / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types „
I bought this a while ago from my local Body Shop. It was on sale at £2 (bargain!!) for a full size bottle. I think it's usually priced at £8 a bottle, however I can't be too sure. I had never bought a toner before and thought that this would be perfect for my first one.
This product is packaged in a clear plastic bottle. The toner itself is clear, with a very slight hint of green, and has a fresh cucumber smell (no surprise) which I quite like. I use this toner once a day, in the evening usually, after cleansing my face. I use a cotton wool pad to apply it. I have found that this toner stops my skin from feeling so tight after washing it and it is good at removing the final scraps of makeup and dirt that may be left on your skin. However, I haven't really noticed any improvement in the size of my pores since using this product. My pores aren't awfully huge anyway, and this may be why I haven't really noticed a difference, but if you are looking for a toner that will reduce your pores, this probably isn't it. However, for the price I paid for it, I think that this product does a perfectly good job of rounding up the last bits of dirt lurking on my skin and rounds off my cleansing routine nicely.
Taking care of your skin can be hard work and I find that to get the best results I have to vary my skincare routine. I always use a toner after cleansing and have tried various types to suit different requirements. I was tempted to buy this Cucumber Freshening Water as it looked very simple and was a good price. It is available from The Body Shop high street stores and online at www.thebodyshop.co.uk, and costs £4.00 for a 250ml bottle.
Product description: "A beauty classic returns. This toner removes the last traces of make-up and leaves skin feeling cool and refreshed. Feel as cool as a cucumber with a toner that refreshes and cleanses, just like our original one. Now with Community Trade organic aloe vera."
The toner comes in a clear plastic bottle, and the liquid itself is colourless. The lid flips open and the top of the bottle is covered over apart from a small hole with raised edges. This allows you to get a good control when pouring the toner out to use, and avoids any accidental spillage. To use, I then simply pour some onto a cotton wool pad and then wipe over my skin. The 250ml bottle lasts for absolutely ages and I got several months use from this.
Recommended directions for use: "Apply to a cotton pad and sweep over face after cleansing. If product gets into eyes, rinse with clean water."
Toning is a necessary step between cleansing and moisturising. This Cucumber Freshening Water is suitable for all skin types and I find it to be very gentle on my skin. It leaves my skin feeling clean and refreshed with no trace of residue left behind afterwards. I used to have some tendencies to break out in spots from time to time, but this Cucumber Water helps to keep my skin clean and blemish free, and I have barely had a single blemish since I started using it. It is not quite as strong as some other toners that I've used, and although it feels nice and gentle leaving me with soft skin, it doesn't give the feeling of a proper deep clean and its quite watery (as you'd expect from the product name and description!). The toner includes Community Trade aloe vera, so it's good to know that The Body Shop apply their high standards to this product and include natural ingredients. Both aloe vera and cucumber are excellent for soothing and calming the skin. The scent of the toner is lovely and fresh and helps add to the refreshing, clean feeling when I have used the toner on my face. I think that the cucumber smell comes across really strongly and it smells just like I've placed real cucumber slices on my face when I'm applying the toner!
Overall I think this is a good toner that performs well, and is great for when my skin is on the more sensitive side as it is gentle as well as effective. This is one of The Body Shops's Favourites range which is made up of classic skin, body and hair care products that have been known and loved for years, and I can see why this simple and effective toner has stood the test of time. I would recommend the Cucumber Freshening Water to anyone that needs a basic, refreshing toner that will work gently to soothe skin in-between cleansing and moisturising.

I've been using this toner daily for around three months now and I really like it. I usually use the tea tree toner from The Body Shop but decided to try this as it sounded quite unusual and I love trying new skin care products out. I bought this in store and paid the full price of £4.00 for the 250ml bottle, which I think is brilliant value for money considering how long a bottle lasts and it is very high quality.
Unfortunately, this toner is no longer available via The Body Shop's website, but it can be purchased in store. The toner comes in a rounded plastic bottle which is very sturdy and it does look quite expensive. The bottle is transparent meaning that the very light green water-like liquid can be seen through it.
The bottle has a dark label on the front which has a brief product description, the product name and The Body Shop logo. There's another label on the back of the bottle too, which has information about recycling as well as a list of ingredients. The bottle has a black flip lid, which once opened exposes a small hole which the liquid is dispensed from when the bottle is tipped upside down.
This stops too much of it coming out at once which I find very handy. This toner is described by The Body Shop as a toner that refreshes and cleanses, and they state that it contains organic aloe vera. Like all toners, I simply apply some of this to a piece of cotton wool so that it's moist and apply it after I've cleansed. The cotton wool absorbs this well as it has the same consistency of water and it is not messy or awkward to apply.
I focus mainly around my chin and nose as this is where I am prone to blackheads and this leaves my skin feeling very fresh, clean and smooth. It does not feel overlly wet and it does not leave any greasy or sticky residue. The toner smells nice and fresh and the cucumber fragrance is really subtle. This overall is a brillant toner; it leaves my skin feeling fresh, clean and smooth and it's a very gentle toner - I've never had any issues with it drying my skin out/irritating my skin.
I am a big fan of trying new products in the hope of improving my skin, but I am also a huge fan of a bargain. I picked up 2 bottles of this in the sale online as they were ridiculously cheap and I needed something to replace the Roma water from Lush that was close to running out (see my other reviews for this). It was insanely cheap, less than £2 as there was an extra discount offered at the time of purchase and I believe the full retail price is around £4.
The packaging is simple, attractive and as above. The cucumber water has a very slight tinge of colour to it as can also be seen in the picture above, but when applied to cotton wool, it looks pretty much like water. The consistency of the cucumber water is, as stated, water, but the way that the lid is designed means that you can only discharge a limited amount of product at any one time to reduce spillage and make it last longer.
I exercise a strict skincare regime of the cleanse, tone, moisturise variety twice a day; first thing on a morning and last thing at night. I even do this when I am horrendously drunk - call me sad but I don't see why my skin should suffer and I always remove my make up when I get in. The whole point of a toner is to refresh your skin, remove any lingering oils or make up that have not been removed effectively by the cleanser and minimise pores. Once I have cleansed, I gently dry off my face with my towel and pop some of this cucumber water onto a cotton wool pad or ball. I then apply it to my face and neck in small circle motions. I also do this with my moisturiser as I have heard that doing so helps stimulate the circulation in your face and therefore increases blood flow, meaning that toxins are removed more effectively. No sooner than I have started to apply it, I feel this refreshing little tingle all over the skin and it feels as though a cool air is on my face. I do use it on my neck as well as it is important to keep it looking young; a lot of women neglect their necks and I refuse to be one of them.
When I look at the cotton wool after use, there is always a little bit of missed make up or dirt that has come off my neck and I feel instantly better that I haven't let that dirt remain on my skin. As far as the pore minimising quality of toners goes, I don't have huge pores anyway, but the fact that the toner is always so cold and fresh indicates to me that it would minimise pores easily, as this is their natural reaction following exposure to cold liquid. I don't even keep it in the fridge; it is always nice and cold, therefore making it ideal as a follow up to sweaty exercise or even post-sunbathe in a hot country.
The cucumber water has a very light, delicate cucumber smell but above all, it smells fresh! My skin can get quite angry and irritated at times and I do feel that using this water helps to calm it down. This is also helped by the fact that it contains Community Trade organic aloe vera, which is renowned for helping to soothe problem skin.
Would I buy it again?
I paid such a small price for a product that smells amazing, works brilliantly and contains high quality natural and organic ingredients. It is also pretty long lasting; I have used half a bottle in around a month and a half, bearing in mind that it is used twice daily. I feel a million times better removing the grease and grime from my skin and I would be insane not to buy this again. I would most definitely buy it at full price as it is still so cheap for good quality skin care.
I can't remember the last time I popped in The Body Shop prior to a week or so ago. It's one of the few shops we have in Weston Super Mare centre though I admit to frequently bypassing it. I only do this cos I know stuff is usually quite pricey in there and that I don't need to pay through the nose nowadays for cruelty free products and so on however I was lured in the other day by Sale posters all over the shops windows so I had a little mooch around when I spotted this product on sale for £2.00 instead of £4.00 and I bought it immedietly due to reading some reviews on here about how good it is.
This comes in a tubby see-through plastic bottle with a black plastic flip top lid to the top of it concealing a small hole and on the front of it there is a dark green label and on that we are told that it is of course The Body Shop Cucumber Freshening Water and that it is 250ml in size (8.4 US FL OZ) and some information is listed on there in a foreign language too and we are told that it is suitable for all skin types. On the back label we are told a little bit about the product, warnings are given, we are told that once we have started to use the product that we need to use it up within 12 months and contact details for the manufacturer are given. This is a nice, simple bottle and of good quality and I do like being able to see the very light green transparent liquid though the bottle too so that if I want to replace it I can.
On the bottle we are not told how to use this at all however I use it as simply a refreshing water on a make up free face as often as I want to for just a little cleanse and freshen up and I also use it after using a liquid toner to remove the last traces of cleanser.
Basically I apply it to cotton wool or a cotton wool pad. The liquid although slightly green tinged in the bottle, when squirted on the cotton wool is simply a clear wet liquid that looks like water really and has a very fresh, pleasant and unisex aroma of cucumbers to it...its really, really nice and refreshing the aroma of this.
A little of this goes a very long way indeed and like I say I apply it to either a clean and cleansed face or simply for say when I've been on my exercise bike for 25 miles and feel a bit sweaty or just simply that my face needs freshening up a bit.
This is instantly cooling and when in use I feel a little grease in it which makes it really smooth and soft to use. It dries instantly leaving my skin fragranced for a good couple of hours gently and my skin feeling clean as well as looking it. With alot of other toning products I have used in the past I have found them to sometimes tighten my skin too much however this really doesn't!
It brightens my complextion, it soothes open pores and spots and has improved the condition of my skin making it look smoother considerably. Not only does my skin look bettter and I'm certainly not getting any spots now compared to what I used to it really has simply brightened my skintone up!
I truely love this product and will certainly buy this one time and time again in the future even for the full £4.00 it usually retails at as I'm just soo impressed. It has no problems lifting grease and grime from the skin at all and I'd rather it was off me than on me!
Only available from The Body Shop!

The Body Shop is a company whose website I visit frequently because they are often sending me e-mails advertising their latest special offers or newest items. I picked up several large boxes of items for Christmas and I made up a number of hampers for friends and relatives. I picked up some extra items for myself too and also found myself in the position where I had some items that were not suitable for someone I had bought them for and so I have been using Body Shop products for myself on and off this year. I believe I paid something in the region of £1.50 for this cucumber water thanks to a special offer and a discount voucher code, however, this is currently half the usual £4.00 price down to just £2.00. This is a great price too, even at full price really, for a 250ml bottle.
This is one of the Body Shop staple products and I have seen this both in store and online for a number of years now. I hope that the recent frequent offers do not mean that this is being discontinued as it is a fantastic product that I've come to love over the past few weeks.
The packaging of this product is very simple. There is a plastic bottle which has a green tinge to it and there is a flip top lid that is simple to open and has a reasonable sized dispenser hole. This toner is simple to extract from the bottle and I find that the lid works very well at stopping spills. This toner is very watery, and is sold as a 'cucumber water' so is incredibly runny and so you will need to be careful when dispensing some for your needs to avoid wastage.
I tend to use this toner water when cleaning my face for bed in the evenings rather than before putting my make-up on in the morning when I use a different product. This toner water is ideal for helping me get rid of
any leftover make-up traces and for leaving me with clean, fresh skin before I retire to bed for the evening.
Cucumber is not something that I love but in recent months in particular I have come to realise that cucumber is very soothing to my skin and helps me to keep fresh, clean, spot free skin and so I have been looking at more and more products that contain cucumber for my face. I already had this in the cupboard from Christmas and so I dug it out and began to use it in the evenings before bed. This cucumber water is quite surprising actually and isn't anywhere near as overpowering as I feared it would be. There is no overwhelming cucumber scent when this is first used and I do not feel like I can notice the smell barely at all. I will say that the scent of this water is one that is light and fresh. It reminds me of clean soaps that I have used in the past and I have been very pleased with the freshness of this scent.
To use this is very simple and I use cotton wool when cleansing, toning and moisturising as generally I find that this gives me the best results. When this toner is applied to my face it has a lovely cooling feeling to it and I must say that I really enjoy using this toning water. I will say that this water feels incredibly refreshing and it does work incredibly well at toning my skin. My skin feels nice and refreshed after using this in conjunction with a cleanser and moisturiser but I am not left with an uncomfortable tightness at all.
I have quite smooth anyway but suffer from the occasional PMT related outbreak. I have had a few spots recently due to ill health and generally being under the weather but I will say that this toner has helped me make sure my skin hasn't got any worse or had any further outbreaks. This water gets a 5/5 from me but you might find you'd rate it less because of the lack of obvious cucumber smell but that works well for me!
I bought this toning water off The Body Shop website.
At the time all of the "Anita's Favourites" products were Buy One Get One Free.
For the £3.99 price tag this was a good bargain. The water comes presented in a flip top plastic bottle complete with lid. The water looks like ordinary water with a pale green tint to it. The water smells very clean and uplifting. It does smell like Cucumber but I think it smells better than Cucumber in my opinion! The size of the bottle is 250ml.
You can use the water in two ways. You can either use it on cotton wool or decant some of it into a spray bottle and use the spray mechanism to refresh your face. I used it in both ways. Spraying the water onto my face was lovely, especially during hot days. The water is really cooling and soothing and if your face is suffering from sunburn it really helps to cool it down. Using the water on cotton wool is simple. Just soak a cotton wool pad in the water and use the pad to wipe off excess cleanser and make-up. Thankfully the water is really mild and gentle. It doesn't sting your eyes and it can be used around the delicate eye area to remove make-up. It can be used with any cleanser too.
The water is great for refreshing dull tired skin types. It doesn't irritate the skin thanks to it's gentle formula so it can be used on sensitive skin types.
A Body Shop classic
A few months back the Body Shop was selling its skincare products at half price so along with rather a few other products, I decided to pick up this toner, which is considered one of the Body Shop classics. I certainly remember using it many years ago, and it was well overdue a re-visit.
A 250ml bottle of the toner costs £4 at full price - obviously I got it for £2.
This is one of those BS products that has been around forever so it may be familiar to those of you that have shopped there for a while. It comes in a green tinted bottle with very simple labelling - it certainly has a classic appearance and is recognisably a Body Shop product.
Inside you can see that the toner has the consistency of water - luckily the black flip-top cap stops you tipping out loads at once so you should be safe from spills!
The toner promises to:
* Remove the last traces of make-up
* Cool the skin
* Refresh the skin
One of the key ingredient of this toner is community fair trade organic aloe vera from Guatemala - the Body Shop is a fair trade supporter and using this ingredient helps support farmers and schoolchildren in the region.
Where is the cucumber?
I am a big fan of the Boots Cucumber Face Wipes - as well as being great make-up removers I love the fresh cucumbery scent - and I expected this toner to smell much the same. However on opening the bottle and having a sniff, the first thing I noticed was that this doesn't have the same obviously cucumber aroma - in fact it smells a little more perfumey to me and I am not convinced that I can detect cucumber at all. Perhaps this is just me of course, but it did come as a bit of a surprise and disappointment. Although having said this the actual smell isn't at all unpleasant and it actually has a very light and fresh scent.
I apply a good squirt of this onto a blob of cotton wool after cleansing my face. Applying it feels really refreshing - it has a lovely cooling sensation and it really feels like you are giving your skin a little extra clean - indeed I do sometimes find traces of make-up on the cotton wool even after cleansing my face. It is really nice to use and, unlike with other toners I've used in the past, I have actually used this most days since buying it - usually with toners I tend to get bored of using them as I can't quite see the point! I really do like the way it gives the skin a lovely fresh feeling and this definitely encourages me to use it.
The other thing I really like is that this doesn't leave skin feeling at all tight - something I have definitely found with other toners. Although I always finish off with a moisturiser, this leaves skin feeling smooth, clear and refreshed and definitely not at all dried out.
A lovely toner
While I won't say this works miracles or dramatically changes the appearance of my skin, I really enjoy using this product. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed, and I like the fact that it offers a nice cleansing boost too!
Overall I really like this product and, at half price, it was an absolute bargain - in fact at £4 for 250ml I would say it is still good value. I am going to be picky and knock off a star though as it didn't have the fresh cucumber fragrance that I had expected!
This is one of the cheapest toners sold at The Body Shop at £4 for 250ml. The packaging of the product is made out of recycled plastic and the toner contains organic Aloe Vera.
I tend to use the toner daily after washing my face and it is easy to apply. The bottle features a plastic black cap with a hole in the top, so you can put what you need easily onto a cotton wool pad.
I have found my skin feels tighter after applying the toner, along with feeling more refreshed. The toner also smells nice, like cucumber as you would expect but the scent is not too overpowering. I believe it to be a good quality product and a nice treat for your skin.
The toner has lasted well; I have had it for about six months and there is still some left in the bottle. You only need to use a couple of drops each time you use it and I I think for the money and quality this is good value.
I bought this when I bought the matching cleanser. I didn't really need a new toner but I thought I'd give it a go and see if it worked well with the cleanser, and at only £4 for a 250ml bottle the price is very reasonable.
The bottle is a see through plastic so you can always see how much you have left. It has a black flip top lid that makes it really easy and convenient to use. The top of the bottle only has a small hole to get the toner out rather than being a normal open neck, so it's easier to control how much you get out.
I pour a bit onto cotton wool and wipe it over my face to remove the last traces of makeup and dirt. The first time I used it I put too much on the cotton wool and it made my skin feel really wet, you really only need about half as much as you would think you would.
It smells nice and fresh and when I wipe it over my face it feels cool and refreshing. As long as I don't use too much it doesn't leave my skin feeling too wet, and it definitely works at removing the last bits of oil and makeup from my skin as you will see from the cotton wool pad. My skin is left feeling smooth and clean and not dry or tight.
When I use toner I always use it over and over with new cotton pads until the pad comes away clean because then I know all the dirt has been removed. With this one I generally find I only really need to use it once as the second cotton pad looks clean after using it.
It does feel gentle when I'm using it but somehow it makes my skin sting when I apply my moisturiser afterwards which is not something I've encountered before. For that reason I won't buy it again, but it is an effective toner.
