The Body Shop Seaweed Clarifying Toner
Advantages: Really clarifies, feels great to use, looks nice and is reasonable when bought on offer.
Disadvantages: There are none.
I have been using Simple toner for a while (also reviewed) but felt like I needed a change. Having done some research, mainly on Dooyoo, I found that the Seaweed range from The Body Shop has been much recommended for my slightly oily combination skin so thought I would give it a go.
I paid £7 for a 200ml bottle of Seaweed Clarifying Toner from my local Body Shop store. I usually make Body Shop orders online as there is so often a good offer or discount code available that you almost never pay full price when ordering online but due to this being my first time with Body Shop skincare products I wanted to go in store and speak to an advisor to make sure it would suit my skin. I have to say that the people who work in the Body Shop are so helpful. Not only was I given good advice but also a sample of the matching face wash, a body butter sample and a money off coupon for my next visit. If possible when considering skincare I would pop into a store. I think £7 is a little more than I would like to spend when I know I could have gotten it cheaper online but now I know about the range I will make future purchases online.
The product comes in a clear plastic bottle with a flip top. It's nice that you can see how much of the product you have left but also the crystal clarity of the product is attractive and certainly makes you believe in the 'clarifying' claim. The product has a sea green/blue label that contains the title of the product and all the necessary information such as directions for use, safety information etc. along with The Body Shop logo and some information regarding their famous ethical stance. Overall the product looks very clean, clear and refreshing, exactly what I would want a toner to look like. The bottle allows for easy dispensing of the product. In my previous experience I have found that due to the consistency of toners you can easily use to much but I find the packaging of The Body Shop Seaweed Toner to be very effective in preventing this.
The first thing I have to say about this product is that it does not smell like Seaweed! I was a little concerned it might but it hardly has a fragrance. It has really light fresh scent that isn't noticeable on your skin. The product has a water like consistency, as do most toners. To use, I dispense the product onto cotton wool and wipe over a freshly cleansed face. I was a little surprised the first time I used this product as it gave a slight tingle, nothing too harsh but it surprised me as I expected it to be very gentle. This slight tingle gave way to a very refreshed, clean feeling which I really liked. For me the best thing about using a toner is the really clean feeling you get and this product really does leave skin feeling very clean. I have been using this toner twice daily for a month now and the bottle is over 75% full, for me that represents very good value. The product is designed to 'clarify' skin and I can confirm that since using the product my skin has improved. It is much clearer and more even toned. I used to have to use at least tinted moisturiser to get an even skin tone but I have found since using this toner that I can get away with just a light dusting of powder. Overall my skin has benefited from using The Body Shop Seaweed Clarifying Toner and based on this I am going to try out the rest of the Seaweed range.
Summary: A lovely refreshing toner without any nasty stinging.
