Advantages: Easy to use, good price
Disadvantages: blackheads still a problem
I'm a fan of the Body Shop and over the past few months have been using their Tea Tree Foaming Cleanser twice a day. My skin is never fully clear and I wanted to try a product that was natural but also would give my skin a really good clean feeling and try minimising spots and blackheads as much as possible. Here are my thoughts on the product and my experience of using it.
The Product & Packaging
I find this product really easy to use and this is really why I like it so much. It comes in a green bottle with a pump on top which dispenses a blob of fresh smelling tea tree oil foam which has a really light and airy feel to it. When I dispense I use two pumps worth of the product every morning and night, wetting my face first and then gently rubbing the foam all over my face. It's so light and gentle making it easy to apply, as I'm not a fan of heavy claggy creams for washing my face. The freshness of the organic tea tree oil also really comes out as soon as you dispense the product and this also adds to its refreshing nature. It's that simple really and I find it cleans my face without making it tight and dry. I have combination skin with parts oily and parts, which are dry, and I have to say this doesn't cause any problems for either areas. What I do find still exists using this product are black heads and I do try to exfoliate or have a mask at least once a week because this product doesn't seem to get rid of blackhead (yuck!) which is a bit disappointing.
The packaging states that it is suitable for 'blemished skin', which I do have but I don't notice these minimising but I have had less spots so all in all I think it good for people prone to spots. There are other products in the Tea Tree Skin Clearing range and I haven't tried these with the foam but maybe if you were to use a range of their products you may find the blemishes are reduced.
In addition to the fair-trade organic tea tree oil the main ingredients are methanol and white willow extract (which is recommended to reduce inflammation which I guess helps with spots and blemishes). I haven't listed the full ingredients list here but they are clearly labelled on the bottle and also available on their website.
The Price
The bottle I've been using now over the last 3 months or so is 150ml which is just coming to an end and this cost £4.50 which I think is really good value. I also have a Body Shop card and I get 10% off purchases with it. This did cost me £5 but I have received a £5 gift in my birthday month and I buy a fair bit in the Body Shop so I find it a worthwhile thing to have.
Overall
I really like the Body Shops philosophy and love to try products from there as I feel its kinder to the environment and to fair-trade farmers around the world. Also the fact they don't test on animals is a real reason in my opinion to support them. All that said I think you really need the product to work to stick with it and I have to say this foam really does work. I had thought reaching 30 would mean I wouldn't get spots but that teenage problem seems to have stayed with me and this is the best product I've found in my price range to give me clearer skin. For the price it gives a good clean and I would definitely recommend it to others.
