Advantages: Not an expensive product, great looking packaging, delivers thick lashes
Disadvantages: Incredibly clumpy, definitely not a substitute for false lashes (or many other volumising mascaras!)
Bourjois have introduced its 'tested and approved by clubbers' Volume Clubbing mascara - now girls, this is not one for the faint hearted! With an emphasis on giving a vampish, serious lash with attitude look, Bourjois have created a product for a dramatic hit of instant glam - but with some drawbacks...
The mascara can be purchased from any of the expected retailers on the high street (such as Boots, Superdrug and others), as well as online. The product is packaged in a standard 11ml (if slightly thicker barrelled) tube, well sealed and with a distinctive metallic silver design detailing the 'Mascara VOLUME CLUBBING' name with an image of a feminine, thickly lashed eye on the front. The mascara comes in a range of three colours - the old favourite of Absolute Black, Disco Blue (an electric, turquoise colour) and Brun Remix (brown with a golden sheen). I chose the Absolute Black to emphasis my dark lashes.
The differentiating feature of this mascara (compared to other volumising products on the market) are the vinyl-enriched formula of the mascara, which takes the form of a cream rather than liquid consistency and the brush, which has a double-sided design with a 'product reservoir' to enable plentiful amounts of the product to saturate the bristles when applied. It's probably also worth noting that the brush has the bristles of a traditional mascara, rather than the 'teeth' or comb design of many modern mascaras.
One coat of mascara coats the lashes instantly, applying a thick layer of mascara which gives an intense look. However, on applying a second coat, lashes do look much thicker, but this borders on clumpy, with no real definition to the lashes, due to huge amounts of the mascara cream being deposited onto the brush and then onto the lashes. Scraping some of the excess product onto the edge of the tube (in order to reduce the amounts kept on the brush) only results in a mess on the tube, which is disappointing. The product also claims to be sweat and tear-proof - there is a small amount of 'flaking off' with the mascara (read: total panda eyes if you forget to take your mascara off before you go to bed!) but it does pretty much stay put during a night out.
Overall, I am incredibly disappointed with this product. For anyone looking for a grown-up, false-lash effect volumising mascara, I would urge you to try an alternative. The Bourjois Volume Clubbing mascara does give a thick lash effect, but one which in no way looks natural or like thick, luscious false lashes. Instead, the result is clumpy, untidy and - to be frank - downright unsexy, which is not worth the approximate £7.90 price-tag. Definitely a downer on make-up for a big night out!
Summary: Dramatic lash results - but for all the wrong reasons!

- 25/10/09 I wouldn't bother to be honest Polly - not worth the hype at all I reckon (though some have liked it, so maybe it's worth a go). |

- 19/10/09 I have seen this in Boots recently and was going to purchase it, not anymore. |
