Advantages: Thick lashes
Disadvantages: Can clump
Bourjois 'Volume Clubbing' Mascara is a mascara I discovered in search for a mascara that would give me seriously voluminous long black lashes, i.e. the kind of mascara that I wouldn't dare wear in the day for fear of looking overly dramatic.
I'm lucky in that I already have long eyelashes but being blonde they are quite light and I find that if I put on my 'daytime' mascara at night I end up putting on about 3 layers and end up with about 4 lashes due to clumps!
I have to admit the first thing that attracted me to this mascara was the packaging - it's shiny black and metallic silver in colour with deep purple writing. It has a very glamorous evening look to it. It has a picture of an eye on the front with thick black lashes and boasts 'Dramatic Look,' 'Extreme Volume' and 'Ultra Resistance.'
The blurb on the back tell us about it's 'Unique Mix' - 'Double sided volumising brush with product reservoirs. Vinyl formula enriched with intense black mineral pigments.' It also tells us that it's 'Tested and Loved by Clubbers.' I thought it sounded quite innovative and I always like to try something different so I picked it up. I chose Ultra Black as I wanted the maximum effect.
The brush itself is round and quite fat as you would expect with a volumising mascara. It seems quite thickly covered in the mascara, almost clumpy. Upon closer inspection it's almost as if you can see those little bits of vinyl on the brush. When I apply it, it goes on very smoothly and thickly from root to tip. The black colour is very intense and with one coat it creates the uber dramatic look that I desired.
The only downside to this mascara is that sometimes those little bits of vinyl that add the volume can create a little bit of clumping. This doesn't seem to happen to often and can always be resolved by a little wiggle of the mascara wand. I would just warn people to be careful when applying 2nd coats as I think it would be very easy to go over the top with this mascara.
This mascara is waterproof and sumdgeproof (two things I can say it lives up to) and comes in Absolute Black, Ultra Black, Brun Remix and Disco Blue. It costs £7.82 for a 11ml/0.32fl oz tube which isn't too pricey for a decent mascara. I recommend it!
