I absolutely love new baked bread so with the glowing reports I have read I persuaded my husband our lives just wouldn’t be complete without one. It just so happened Safeway had one on special offer it was a Moulinex costing £39.99. So it duly went into the trolley along with the special flour and yeast necessary to make the perfect loaf.

It was very well packed but we eventually prised it free of its polystyrene and cardboard and washed the bowl and accessories as per instructions.

Accessories include
Bowl
Mixer
Graduated Beaker
Double measuring spoon.

Then the tank of the machine was cleaned with a damp sponge. The machine itself was very neat in white with a panel on the top to watch the breadmaking in process. It sat very easily on the work surface, which was important, as I intended to use it a lot. The buttons were small and were easy to use and the handy product guide on the first page of the manual made it very easy to understand.

Time for a trial run.
I removed the bowl and fitted the mixer in place.
Now time to add the ingredients in the order given in the recipe. This is very important as the water should not come in contact with the yeast before baking.

So in went
210 mls of water
350g white flour
1.5 teaspoons of salt
1 sachet of dried baker’s yeast (dehydrated)
Now put the bowl back into the tank locking it in place to engage it onto the drive then close the lid.

Select a Programme for the recipe you have chosen. The loaf we chose could be cooked in either 3hours 40 minutes at setting 3 or at setting 5 in only 58 minutes.
So being impatient by nature guess which one I chose. Yes right option 2.
The machine started we peered like children in amazement as the dough was formed it reminded me of my first automatic washing machine when we watched it go through its paces in admiration I really should get out more.

>While it was cooking I sat down to read the recipes I could try not only did it make bread also cakes, muffin and pizza dough Jam and compotes. How had I ever lived without this wonderful machine?

Before I knew it the pinger had gone time to reveal my masterpiece.

AAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Sitting or should I say stuck to the bottom was a ball of dough not risen just cooked when we eventually managed to separate it from the tin it was a disgusting lump. I should be reported to the RSPB
for nearly killing a seagull as I lobbed it onto the garage roof.

What had gone wrong? It was obvious it had not proved so I reckon it must have missed a cycle.

Not too downhearted the next day it was back to the drawing board this time with my neighbour for backup and she checked every step of the process. We opted this time for the 3 hours 40 minutes cycle.
After what seems like an eternity (no wonder people set the timer facility to cook the bread while they sleep) the pinger went off again.

First impressions.
It wasn’t very big but did come out easier than the last one. In the underside was a metal circle this was the mixer blade imbedded in the loaf.
It was very hard on the outside as I cut a slice to revel the metal mixer which fell out leaving a hole 2 inches long by 1 inch deep at the bottom.

The Taste Test
I was absolutely disgusting, totally inedible and a yellowish colour, it was such a disappointment.
Nowhere in the instruction book is there a trouble shooting section and the website at
www.moulinex.com at least had a contact phone number and e-mail address.

I can only assume this item is faulty and is being returned first thing in the morning.

To sum up it has put me off ever trying a breadmaker again if I want some nice crusty bread I will buy a bloomer from Safeway. That way I am guaranteed beautiful bread every time and so much cheaper
than the expense of ingredients and electricity.

Sorry everyone who has one its a big thumbs down from me.

PS While I have been waiting on this being added as a new product I was rushed into hospital NOT as a result of the bread I hasten to add but it left my husband to return it and I am glad to say he got a full refund.

We have a Moulinex and it now takes up space as a dust collector on a shelf. If we buy another, it will definitely be a Morphy Richards. Good review.

Hi Elspeth, hope you are better! My mum has a Morphy Richards bread maker, the largest one, and the bread is lovely, so maybe you should try another brand of bread maker. I will avoid this brand if I decide to bread make :-{
