Asda Smartprice Bran flakes
I have recently tried out the Asda smart price bran flakes cereal and this is my review of the product.
I am not normally an Asda shopper as I usually do my shopping in my local Tesco supermarket as it is nearer my house than Asda but I was recently popping into my local Asda store for some bits and pieces and while I was in there I thought I would try there bag of smart price bran flakes.
Smart Price is Asdas own brand which is a budget type of brand and as I am trying to save a few pennies on my weekly shop each week I was on the look out for some ways to save money. I have used budget branded products before and have found that lots of them are good but some of them are not so good and I would not buy them again.
The Asda smart price bran flakes comes in very plain looking packaging and it does not come in a box like most other cereal does. Instead it comes in quite a large bag which is made out of plastic. The packaging does not look like the picture on the review page as Asda have went back to the green and white coloured packaging for their Smart price brand and not the red and white that they had for a while. The packaging is not eye catching or nice looking and I was worried about whether the bag would be sturdy enough to hold all of the cereal.
The bag is 750g which I think is a very good size and is quite big and for this I only paid around 75 pence which I think is a saving of about £1.50 for the box of bran cereal I would usually buy so I was pleased to save this money as it is getting close to being Christmas time and I need every penny I can get.
The cereal has lasted me quite a long time - well I would say about three weeks and that is really good value for what I paid for the bag I think. I know not everybody likes bran type cereals but I do and I think it is good to start my day with a nice healthy breakfast so I am happy to get the fibre that a bran type cereal has in it.
The Asda smart price bran flakes look very similar to other bran flakes I buy quite often and I do not know if I would have been able to pick them out if they were beside a more well known brand! The flakes are a brown colour and have a sort of malted smell to them. I will be honest and say that the bran flakes do not look all that appetising when compared to other breakfast cereals but for me the health benefits out weigh that for me anyway. And this is not something that I think with only this type of bran flakes but all bran cereals really.
The taste of the Asda smart price bran flakes I thought was just like the normal brand of bran flakes that I would buy. I thought the taste was quite heavy like a malty taste and the flakes were nice and crunchy which is something I was worried about before I ate these flakes cos they were so much cheaper. I thought the Asda smart price flakes were just as crispy and crunchy as my usual brand of flakes and I thought that they didn't get to soggy to quickly even though I had milk in the cereal.
The Asda smart price bran flakes are not suitable if you have any food allergies and they are suitable for vegetarians to eat. They have 2.4g of fat per 100g and also have 14.8g of fibre per 100g so as you can see they are a very healthy cereal to eat. If only kids would eat them!
I think the Asda smart price bran flakes were a good choice for my breakfast cereal and I would suggest giving them a try out as they are good value for money and they are as good as some other brands of bran type cereal I have tried before. They are not the tastiest cereal but they are one of the more healthy ones so I am happy to keep eating them. I would buy this brand of cereal again and suggest you give it a try.
Summary: VERY CHEAP CEREAL
