Advantages: Incredible taste and truly crunchy, good value for money

Disadvantages: too much sugar!

Jordan's make great breakfast cereals. A few years ago my family would buy the chocolate version and it was sublime. Unfortunately they discontinued it, with a trip to France being the only way to get hold of some! Just recently they have decided to reintroduce it - thank god!!

So what is this country crisp all about? Well, if you haven't tried it already, it is a crunchy, crispy bowl full of wholegrain oats and barley. They bake them into big clusters that break apart in the mouth. Surrounding this is plenty of pieces of freeze dried raspberry. Freeze-drying is a great way of storing fruit while retaining the bulk of the vitamins and minerals. The raspberry is tart and wonderful.

It is a filling breakfast, but watch out. The cereal is heavy and it is easy to fit 100g in your bowl, which makes for 435 calories as stated on their website. It's also very tasty and easy to eat two bowls. Also, I'd watch out for the sugar content. My diet doesn't contain many high-sugar items any more, so this and similar cereals have a deleterious effect on my body. There is 23.7 grams of sugar in a 100g bowl - that's nearly 25% sugar! For a breakfast dish, the high sugar content nearly negates the health benefits of eating a nutritional, whole-grain breakfast.

Jordan's also use conservation grade oats, which pay farmers to plant crops in a way that conserves the natural environment as much as possible.

I'd highly recommend this cereal, go pick it up and see what you think, but just remember that it is very sweet and full of calories so go easy!

Summary: A great mature cereal that could do with less sugar
