Advantages: tasty

Disadvantages: expensive & not enough fruit

I wrote a review before of the raisin version of this, which is ridiculously addictive. One day I accidentally picked up the tropical version and I felt very stupid. However, after eating, I have realised that this version is perhaps five thousand times better, although they are both, admittedly, delicious.

This is essentially a packet of honey baked oats. What I like about it is that the oats are very, very crunchy so you can saturate your bowl with milk but the flakes don't go soggy like cornflakes or whatever. They're still really firm and you can still taste the sweetness of the honey. I don't think this packet is as good to eat dry from the packet as the raisin though, for some reason. I think it is because you don't get as much fruit as in the raisin version, which is my one complaint actually. I was really disappointed with the amount of fruit as there is hardly anything but banana chips. I really love pineapple in such cereal but I felt spoiled when I had one per bowl and as I got down to the bottom of the packet, I had no pineapple at all. In fact, I had no fruit at all except the dreaded banana chips. I don't really have anything against banana chips but...come on. I wanted some melon or pineapple at least. One piece of either is all I ask for but you got neither. I think that's pretty disappointing as if you eat Jordans Tropical Muesli for example there is loooads of pineapple, papaya, melon, etc. so in comparison this is very sparse indeed.

However, it is very good and I think it would probably be even better if you had some fruit on hand which you could add yourself. It's perfectly fine to eat this without any fruit as the oats itself is absolutely gorgeous. I know it's probably not very healthy as this is quite high in sugar due to the honey but...eh. It's good. The serving size of 50g, however, I feel is quite small. It fills about a quarter of a bowl or even less which I think is quite disappointing but I try to stick to it anyway. It has around 230 calories in this amount with the milk as well, which is quite reasonable but it comes with a lot of carbs understandably. I do think it makes a good start to the day though as it's one of those breakfasts that you quite look forward to. I have gone back to muesli for the moment and I really miss the crunch of this as in comparison muesli is very soft and, when you put in the same amount of milk, soggy.

I really recommend this but I do think the price is a bit extortionate at around £2 with an ever smaller packet size - mine is 750g. It's alright if you're going to stick to the 50g serving size but if you plan on filling your bowl right up then breakfast is going to pretty expensive! But it is most certainly delicious. I would recommend trying this and the raisin and almond one. The raisin and almond one is a good one for snacking as it tastes good both wet and dry.
