Advantages: Excellent healthy cereal

Disadvantages: Slightly plain taste

Kellogg's Bran Flakes are a tasty and healthy breakfast cereal. They are bran enriched wheat flakes which are a medium GI food.

They look similar to cornflakes in appearance but are a bit thicker, heavier and a deeper brown in colour.

They are sold in 500g and 750g boxes and are available from all good supermarkets and other stores.

They are a food that is suitable for children and adults. They are enriched with vitamins, iron and folic acid and are a very good source of fibre.
A 30g serving without milk provides 98 calories, 1g fat and 4.5g fibre. The daily recommended amount of fibre is 18g so this a bowl of Bran Flakes gives you a good boost to getting your daily amount.

They have a fairly plain taste but are sweetened with sugar and honey so are not boring to eat. I find that by adding a chopped banana and ice cold milk they are delicious.
They are very crunchy to start with but soften up once the milk has been added. Providing you do not leave them for too long, they do not go soggy so are a good choice for those who hate soggy cereals.

As a medium GI food they leave you feeling quite satified so you are not tempted to snack on unhealthy things later on.

Bran Flakes are suitable for those following a healthy balanced diet, those who are trying to lose weight and those who need to follw a high fibre diet.

Summary: A great way for everyone to enjoy a healthy breakfast with the added benefits of bran
