Tasty cereal that is a healthy option.

I have been feeling a little low in energy lately so I decided to try and eat healthier foods. I decided an easy way to do this was to switch from my chocolate flavoured cereal to something with a little more substance. I thought this Kelloggs 'Just Right' would be a good healthy choice as it contained fruit, nuts and a blend of cereals.

I usually buy my cereals in big boxes but this was only available in a small 500g sized box. The box is printed with product information. Full ingredients appear on the side in multiple languages whilst there is a large and thorough nutritional value chart on the back.

As far as the ingredients go this contains:

Wholewheat, Maize, Rice, Raisins (11%) - they have recently increased this fruity amount - brown sugar, molasses, rolled oats, sliced amonds (1%), salt, barley malt flavouring and the cereal is also fortified with naicin, iron, vitamins B6, B2, B1, B12 and folic acid.

Nutritional values are given for either 100g or 40g of product. The 40g amount is a recommended serving amount an includes the value for 125ml of skimmed milk. Per 40g serving the cereal has 207 calories and 3g of fat.

The cereal is comprised of a few different kinds of flakes. One flake is bright yellow in colour, one is a mottled brown, one is a biscuit brown and looks like a baked oat and there are pieces of what look like puffed rice crispies. You also have pieces of oats which have a floury centre and are white in colour. There are small, finely slice almonds which are amber coloured. There are also medium to large sized raisins which are infact the biggest thing in the packet. The flakes are so tiny you would think they had been crushed and in consistency this cereal resembles muesli. It has a rich, biscuity aroma which is very mouth watering.

I always use full fat milk and adding this to the cereal I find that you need to immerse it all to ensure there is enough milk for the bowlful. I can reach the end of the bowl and the cereal remains quite crispy.

The flakes have an earthy taste combined with honey-flavoured brown sugar and that sweetness is delightful. The almonds are a little sparse throughout and I would definitely like Kelloggs to increase the percentage of nuts in the ingredients. However, the almonds you find per serving are succulent and tasty. The raisins are mostly soft and juicy but there is the odd one that is flat and too dried out and which ends up feeling like a toffee penny. The texture and taste of the raisins works beautifully with the baked biscuity flavour of the cereals. I also like that the oats have that distinctive flour texture and porridgey taste. Overall the ingredients work really well together and I do feel like I get lots of different flavours and textures with every mouthful.

This is most definitely an adult cereal and one I would always eat with cold milk rather than warm milk. I do feel like I'm getting a lot more out of my food now I've switched to this from my rather bland chocolate flavoured cereal. I do feel energised once I've eaten breakfast and this fills me up until just before lunch time so it's quite good at warding off hunger. This is not really the kind of cereal you can pick out of the pack dry and nibble at as what tends to happen is the raisins and almonds fall to the bottom of the pack and only come to the surface when you tip the pack up. Regardless, this is a lovely cereal that I would gladly eat not just for breakfast but as a replacement for a meal later on in the day or as a snack. I would certainly recommend trying it.

A tasty cereal shame about the price

My husband and I always have a bit of 'supper' before heading up to bed, but we try to avoid eating a lot of sweet things at this time of the day, and instead tend to have a bowl of cereal or yogurt. We are both big fans of Fruit and Fibre and I was about to buy a new pack of this when I noticed Tesco had this Kellogg's Just Right Cereal on offer a few weeks ago, with a 500g box costing £1.49, it is usually at least double the price.

Originally I thought the box itself looked very small and I thought that it wouldn't actually contain much cereal, and therefore felt that other cereals on the shelf would be better value for money, but I ended up getting it wen I realised it contained 500g and thought at the reduced price it was a good time to try this out.

This cereal is housed in a rather noticeable green coloured box. This cereal contains wholewheat, corn, rice flakes,as well as raisons and almond flakes, which I think it a nice, relatively healthy combination. I particularly like the fact that it contains raisins as well, as I always thinks this gives it more flavour, and its sometimes nice to have something to get your teeth into!

When you pour out this cereal, it reminds me somewhat of muesli, but tastes so much nicer!! THe combination of different cereal flakes with the raisons and almonds is different but very tasty and would easily have you reaching for the box again to pour out more.

In terms of nutritional information, a serving of this cereal contains 148 calories, which isn't the worst when it comes to cereals. It does however also contain 9grams of sugar, which reduces the healthiness of this cereal. On a plus note, there is less than 1gram of fat!

All in all, although I wouldn't say that this cereal lasts a long time, it is a very tasty cereal and perfect for supper. I always have porridge in the morning as it keeps me going for longer without snacking so I don't know if this cereal would keep you going in the morning just as much, but it certainly is a filling supper, which we both have enjoyed a lot. I think at full price at over £3, it is pretty steep, and I wouldn't be paying that, however when on offer, I would certainly purchase this cereal again.

      Yum

I am a very unhealthy eater in most ways. The one time I do try and eat healthily is at breakfast as I am not quite ready for all things sweet at 7am in the morning, though it won't be long. So with the exception of Weetos which I have a soft spot for, I try and avoid cereals that are all about the honey or chocolate chunks and find something a bit healthier.

The two that I like at the moment are Kelloggs Fruit and Fibre and their Just Right, this being my favourite of the two. Everything about this looks healthy, even the bright green box conjuring up images of fresh countryside and what not. This is a higgledy-piggeldy mixture of whole-wheat, corn and rice flakes with almonds, dates and raisins.

It's quite a colourful cereal, as it has all different shades of yellow, brown, cream and golden with the contrasting purple-blacks of the raisins. In some ways this reminds me of cornflakes a little but this has a rounded range of tastes and textures whereas Cornflakes is just one taste over and over and this has the added health and taste benefit of the fruit.

This is quite filling for a cereal and a good bowl of this will keep you full till lunch. One negative though is that this is not very nice dry. Quite a few cereals you can eat dry for a snack but without the milk it's just too dry and the milk really seems to make it taste even fresher and bring out all the different flavours.

This is roughly £2.50 at Sainsbury's but sometimes goes on offer for less. This is definitely a favourite in my cupboard.

A delicious light breakfast cereal (for grown ups!) :o)

Keloggs are the worlds leading cereal manufacturer. The comapny founded by W K Kelogg in 1906 in the USA selling Kellogs Corn Flakes. The company marketed a 'better for you breakfast food'. Their brands have been copied by other manufacturers over the years, but for me they remain a symbol of quality on the cereal front. If I could afford to buy branded groceries all the time Kellogs would be at the top of my list.

My kids would eat cereal all day every day, if they were given half the chance. It costs me a small fortune, but I suppose eating cereal (as long as they are not sugar coated), is a reasonably healthy 'snack'. In a bid to cut my food bills I have swapped to store brands for most of my cereals, but I have not yet come a cross a supermarket that does their own version of Kellogs 'Just Right'.

Hands off Kids - This is my Cereal.....
At about £2.40 for a 500g box, this is definitely one of the more expensive cereals. However, like many grocery items I stock up when they are on offer. Kellogs Just Right is 50% off in Sainsbury's at the moment (26/5/10). At £1.21, I think it is an affordable price.

I would describe Kellogg's Just Right as light muesli. Instead of lots of heavy osts this cereal is a mixture of wholewheat, corn and rice flakes along with succulent raisins, juicy dates and sliced almonds. Served with ice cold skimmed milk, this makes a great start to the day for those who are maybe watching their weight, or who just want a change from your usual breakfast fix.

My only gripe is that you have to remember to shake the packet before serving, otherwise all the delicious raisins and dates head to the bottom of the packet for the lucky person who has the final helping of the box!

As its' name suggests I find this cereal just right to start my day! It's crunchy and crisp, and sweet enough to eat without adding any sugar. If you are on a real health drive I guess weetabix is the best cereal to eat, containing the least amount of sugar than any other cereal. However, variety is the spice of life and Kellogs Just Right adds a little colour to my cereal cupboard.

      Thank you for Reading! :o)
