Advantages: Tastes great, variety of flavours and textures.

Disadvantages: Some raisins feel too dry and hard.

I have been feeling a little low in energy lately so I decided to try and eat healthier foods. I decided an easy way to do this was to switch from my chocolate flavoured cereal to something with a little more substance. I thought this Kelloggs 'Just Right' would be a good healthy choice as it contained fruit, nuts and a blend of cereals.

I usually buy my cereals in big boxes but this was only available in a small 500g sized box. The box is printed with product information. Full ingredients appear on the side in multiple languages whilst there is a large and thorough nutritional value chart on the back.

As far as the ingredients go this contains:

Wholewheat, Maize, Rice, Raisins (11%) - they have recently increased this fruity amount - brown sugar, molasses, rolled oats, sliced amonds (1%), salt, barley malt flavouring and the cereal is also fortified with naicin, iron, vitamins B6, B2, B1, B12 and folic acid.

Nutritional values are given for either 100g or 40g of product. The 40g amount is a recommended serving amount an includes the value for 125ml of skimmed milk. Per 40g serving the cereal has 207 calories and 3g of fat.

The cereal is comprised of a few different kinds of flakes. One flake is bright yellow in colour, one is a mottled brown, one is a biscuit brown and looks like a baked oat and there are pieces of what look like puffed rice crispies. You also have pieces of oats which have a floury centre and are white in colour. There are small, finely slice almonds which are amber coloured. There are also medium to large sized raisins which are infact the biggest thing in the packet. The flakes are so tiny you would think they had been crushed and in consistency this cereal resembles muesli. It has a rich, biscuity aroma which is very mouth watering.

I always use full fat milk and adding this to the cereal I find that you need to immerse it all to ensure there is enough milk for the bowlful. I can reach the end of the bowl and the cereal remains quite crispy.

The flakes have an earthy taste combined with honey-flavoured brown sugar and that sweetness is delightful. The almonds are a little sparse throughout and I would definitely like Kelloggs to increase the percentage of nuts in the ingredients. However, the almonds you find per serving are succulent and tasty. The raisins are mostly soft and juicy but there is the odd one that is flat and too dried out and which ends up feeling like a toffee penny. The texture and taste of the raisins works beautifully with the baked biscuity flavour of the cereals. I also like that the oats have that distinctive flour texture and porridgey taste. Overall the ingredients work really well together and I do feel like I get lots of different flavours and textures with every mouthful.

This is most definitely an adult cereal and one I would always eat with cold milk rather than warm milk. I do feel like I'm getting a lot more out of my food now I've switched to this from my rather bland chocolate flavoured cereal. I do feel energised once I've eaten breakfast and this fills me up until just before lunch time so it's quite good at warding off hunger. This is not really the kind of cereal you can pick out of the pack dry and nibble at as what tends to happen is the raisins and almonds fall to the bottom of the pack and only come to the surface when you tip the pack up. Regardless, this is a lovely cereal that I would gladly eat not just for breakfast but as a replacement for a meal later on in the day or as a snack. I would certainly recommend trying it.
