Quaker Oat Granola
Advantages: nutritious, according to manufacturer
Disadvantages: hard, sharp and rough texture
Quaker has a good reputation for breakfast cereals and since I trust the brand I had no concerns about buying their Oat Granola cereal.
At £1.75 for a 600g box this breakfast cereal is expensive. The box looks small because the cereal is heavy.
However, you are only meant to have a small portion.
It is made up of clusters of oats and raisins but the big raisins that are proudly announced on the packaging are fairly sparsely distributed. I found three in one bowlful.
The clusters are small, or large depending on how hard you shake the box to break them up and some of them are so big and hard that they could quite easily break your teeth.
Adding milk and heating the whole lot in the microwave helps to soften the oat clusters.
A 50gram bowl of this with no milk gives you 205 calories and contains no added salt or flavourings but it does contain a trace of nuts so if you are allergic to them this product is best avoided.
I did like the taste of these but I found they actually made my mouth sore because they are so hard to chew and rough in texture.
Soaking them in hot milk helps to soften them but does nothing for the flavour.
This cereal was a waste of money for me as I ended up incorporating it into flapjacks after beating it with a rolling pin to break up the lumps.
It is expensive and is not as good a quality as granola cereals like the Jordan's ones.
I would not buy this cereal again even when it is on offer at Tesco.
It is certainly hard work and not very pleasant to eat for breakfast.
Summary: Needs lots of effort to chew, rough texture and too hard to enjoy.
