Tesco Golden Honey Puffs
Disadvantages: Too sweet, disgusting taste, expensive
I'm a film student. I bought this cereal to be part of a film I was shooting, and picked it up mainly because it was cheap and had a visually striking box. However, after hte short was done I foound myself left with over £1.50's worth of superfulous cereal.
So I ate it.
When you pour out a bowl you are greeted with an aroma like stale cake, and looking at the 'puffs' themselves they don't look all that different either. They're shaped like regular honey puffs but if you insepct one you can see it's shiny, that's from the glaze of sugar (I presume) that's been painted on.
Chuck on some milk and they go soft almost immeadiately, yet retain a slightly hard consistency, like soggy cardboard. Taste wise, it doesn't get any better. At over 16g of sugar per bowl, and 22% of the ingredients being sugar too you shouldn't be shocked to hear that these are almost unbearably sweet.
This over powering sugaryness masks any other taste, and even when all the cereal is gone the sugar has seeped into the milk too, tainted that with the same rank sacharine.
I understand for copyright reasons that they couldn't have gone with 'sguar puffs' or something similar for a title, but 'honey' puffs really if misleading. There's not a hint of honey in the cereal, and at a pretty close price to the branded alternative I can't imagine you're saving much by comprimising for this truly awful cereal.
When I'd finished my bowl and headed to uni I felt incredibly lousy mid morning, presumably because my blood sugar levels were all over the shop, and to top it off it didn't even fill me up!
Still, only another 20 bowls to go till I can buy my cornflakes again. Though I worry about developing diabetes before then.
