Weetabix The Whole Grain Cereal
Advantages: Tasty. Unique taste. Good price. Healthy.
Disadvantages: Need to add sugar.
I was writing a review about another cereal and it got me to thinking about my other favourite breakfast cereal, a classic cereal in my opinion, Weetabix. I have been eating Weetabix since I was a child and have since also fed it to my own children, and it remains a personal and a family favourite. These days there are different varieties of Weetabix, such as Weetabix Chocolate and Oatabix, but I prefer the standard and original Weetabix variety.
The Weetabix comes in different size boxes, but I usually buy the largest box (I have quite a large family!) and this contains 72 of the Weetabix biscuits (72 x 18g) for the cost of £4.99 from Tesco. This equates to about 7p per biscuit which is a very good price. Most of the time I will have 2 biscuits per serving and so this box will contain around 36 servings and so will last a little while!
If you haven't had Weetabix before, it's quite hard to describe what it is and what it tastes like....especially to do this in such a way that makes them sound appetising! They come in blocks which are usually referred to as "biscuits" but they actually don't look anything like biscuits at all - but it's hard to refer to them as anything else. They are made up of wholegrain and compacted together to form these biscuits. I have to admit that they don't look particularly delicious, but looks can be deceiving sometimes.
In order to make them into the cereal, you put one or two of the Weetabix biscuits into a bowl and then add milk. I like my Weetabix quite stodgy and so I don't like to add too much milk......just enough to make the biscuit moist and to break it down. However, my daughter likes it all sloppy and swimming in milk and so I think this is just a matter of personal taste. I do find that I need to add sugar to this because it isn't very sweet on it's own, but adding a teaspoon of sugar makes the whole bowl come alive. I can taste the wheat and the sugar combined with the milk and it makes are really delicious concoction....although I appreciate that it might not sound that that is the case! In addition to all of this, they are a healthy option and provide a really good start to the day.
Summary: An original and one of the best.
