The Modular GbE Line Card offers a Baseboard with one fixed GbE port and the flexibility to configure up to three 3-Port Gigabit Ethernet port adapters (EPAs), allowing a service provider to configure this line card with up to 10 total GbE ports. This flexibility enables service providers to purchase only the number of EPAs necessary to support today's deployment requirements, knowing they can tie future EPA purchases to increased customer revenue as demand warrants.

Supported by the Cisco 12000 Series distributed system architecture, the Modular GbE Line Card provides an advanced feature set, and maintains performance when features are enabled as a result of the dedicated Layer 3 forwarding application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) and advanced memory components. The extensive Modular GbE Line Card feature set includes industry leading quality of service (QoS) features ideal for customer service-level agreements (SLAs), extended access control lists (ACLs) to address security risks, a comprehensive set of Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) features for high-level services to customers, and Ethernet features such as virtual LANs (VLANs), source and destination Media Access Control (MAC) accounting, and jumbo frames.
