Advantages: Easy to set up, great connection, cheap, work with lots of things.
Disadvantages: Fiddly to turn switch they are in on and off and a bit ugly!
As you may know from previous reviews I own an Xbox 360 and also quite a lot of games and accessories for it (some of which have been reviewed previously if you are interested.)
Having an Xbox 360 is very good but one downside is the cost of the excellent but very expensive Xbox Live. Being a bit of a cheapskate I didn't want to pay about £50 for the wireless adaptor (which has come down a bit now) After reading about on the net I found this product and thought it sounded great and it does exactly the same job, was cheaper and can work with other things not just the Xbox or other game consoles!
I was a little bit sceptical seeing the price (which was about £35) and the name Max Value also put me off so wondered whether these would work or be a failure. However I have to say I am so glad I found this home plug set. It is very easy to set up and use, simply one plug went into the study and connects with a cable to the wireless router while the other goes next to the Xbox and plugs into the Ethernet port on the back. All I have to do now if I want to go on Xbox Live is turn on two switches!
If all is working correctly some green lights will flash at both ends and your connection should be working! If the lights are red it means there is a problem and yellow means they are inuse and data is travelling down it.
As I mentioned earlier these can be used with other electricals and I have used mine to connect with my Blu-ray player as well as it needed an update and it was very easy as well. All I had to do was move one plug downstairs next to the TV and player and hey presto and my Blu-ray player had updated in about 2 minutes!
Another great thing about these home plugs is that they have a very good connection and I never ever get lag while playing online. Also these can go up to very high speeds and my connection is definitely quick enough for me!
The only disadvantage I can think of is that the plugs are not the prettiest design and look a bit plastic as you can tell from the Dooyoo picture. They are also quite big and can be a little but only a little hard to press the switch to turn them on and off. However bring quite big they are also robust and I can`t see them breaking easily.
Overall I would recommend these excellent Max Value home plugs to all especially if you want to get Xbox Live but are put off by the overpriced wireless adaptor that does not work with anything else than the Xbox and can be quite slow. These home plugs are a much better alternative and a lot cheaper too.
The Good
* Easy to set up.
* Great connection which is also very fast.
* Work with nearly anything electrical whether your Xbox or Wii or laptop/
* Cheap.
* Flashing lights tell you the status.
* You won`t be giving Bill Gates more money from overpriced Xbox accessories (better not post that bit on Ciao or I can`t hope to get any money from the premium fund!)
The Bad
* A little bit fiddly to turn the switch off they are in as they are quite large.
The Ugly
* Look a little cheap/plasticky and are quite large in size/
Score
4/5 Does the job they are meant to do, easy to set up and nice and cheap!
Recommended!
