Apple Composite AV Cable
Advantages: None that I know of
Disadvantages: Video input didn't work with my ipod
The apple composite AV cable is supposedly a way to connect your ipod to your TV and recieve a video input. In other words you can watch your iPod videos on your TV. This is done by using the AV cables. Buying the official apple version costs around £35, but is hard to find in stores, so buying via the internet is your best bet. This official version comes with a charger and and international plugs to charge your ipod.
On the website it lists the models which are compatible to use and recieve the video input. I own a 2nd generation ipod touch which has the 4.0 software loaded onto it. This seemed to be compatible so I bought it from Amazon and recieved the box with the instructions. The guidelines are fidgitey (turn of your TV and ipod beforehand, plug the audio Av cables only after the video one) but I followed them anyway. After being unsuccesful with two previous unofficial composite cables, I had high hopes for this Apple one. Guess what - it didn't work. As with all the others only audio came through.
One of the previous composite cables I bought from Amazon did manage to get video through, but then always cut off after about 10 seconds. So I know it works. This one, unfortunatley, didn't even do that. I am bitterly disappointed, but what got me even more annoyed was a paragraph in the instruction booklet which read "if video input does not work the composite cable can still work for audio" - as if they were anticipating this to happen. So it looks like I have bought a £35 cable which does nothing more than the iPod dock and portable iPod speakers I already have do.
I have read some good reviews for some other devices, but the composite cable does not seem to work with the iPod Touch second generation with either 3.0 or 4.0 software loaded on.
I'll give it one star because it simpily didn't do what it said it did. Absolutley gutted - now I have to pay for the original postage and packaging plus all of the costs involved in sending it back (insurance and postal costs)
Summary: Maybe it's just me but now I'm out of pocket three times (£15) after sending them all back
