IOMAX Car Cassette Adapter - Black

Sadly after our beautiful Silver Honda was sold, we had to get another. I needed it to be almost the same and as look would have it we found another Honda, only difference was colour, a boot instead of hatchback and the fact that it has an awful tape deck instead of our groovy cd player we had in the other Honda. But we weren't stupid; we took the cd stereo out of the other before it went. However the job of putting it into the new Honda was proving a little tricky so I needed to find a way of being able to listen to our CDs or at least our music. There is nowhere for me to connect my iPod so I had to find a different way.


Where from and how much

This was when I found this IOMAX Car Cassette Adapter, I was very sceptical when I read the customer reviews, but people raved about it so I decided it was worth a shot, at £3.99 with free delivery from Amazon, I didn't have that much to lose.


What it is

The IOMAX Car Cassette Adapter looks just a basic audio cassette but with the added feature of a 3.5 gold plated jack plug. With 4ft of cable enabling us to connect to the iPod or other MP3 player with lots of play with the long wire so we can put the iPod or MP3 player in a suitable place. Now my husband has never been one for all this digital music lark, he likes his CDs and was quite put out. I did convince him it was a good idea as there wouldn't be CDs all over the place. So I gave him my Sony MP3 player, told him to put all his CDs onto the computer then transfer everything he would want to listen to onto the MP3 player. Well he soon got the hang of what he had to do and began to enjoy himself. With all his music transferred onto the MP3, we were ready to try it out.

The cassette fits straight into the tape deck and the jack plug plugs into the MP3 player with the tape/radio switched on and the MP3 switched on it's ready to go. The radio is automatically cut out when tape is pressed and instead of hearing a random audio cassette, the music that is stored on the MP3 player comes out the speakers. We find it best if we turn down the volume on the tape/radio and turn up the volume on the MP3 player.

I was surprised it worked so well, in fact I was surprised it worked at all. It's perfect for us until we can manage to sort out our other CD player for the car. Now we have the freedom to listen to all our own music as well as the radio if we so choose.


Bad Points

Okay, so it's not all that great. Firstly it looks untidy, with loads of cable trailing everywhere. Next it doesn't seem to want to play an album as you want it to, it mixes them up and stops after playing just one album, it doesn't run the music continuously. I guess there may well be a way to sort this so it does run as we'd like, but to be honest we can't be bothered messing about with it. We're happy just to be able to listen to our own music whilst in the car.


Would I recommend it?

I'm glad I found this handy little gadget and don't regret buying it at all, for now it's serving its purpose and seems to be working well enough, so I guess I would recommend it to anyone in the same situation as us.
