WHAT IS IT?
A manual milk frother for you to make a milky froth for your coffee. It has other uses also but I mostly use mine for milk.
HOW DO YOU USE IT?
Your pour cold milk into the jug, there is a thick black line printed onto the glass and that is how much milk you need to pour in. Then you put it into the microwave and heat it up for a few seconds until the milk is warm but not hot. As soon as it is warm you have to put the lid of the jug on and pump the handle up and down, the bottom looks like a cafetiere plunger but it is meshed with a very slim silk mesh that forces air into the milk when you pump it. You have to do many pumps and not just one like when you are using a cafetiere and you will have to learn how to do this because the bottom part of the plunger has to touch the base of the jug and be pulled all the way up to make sure all of the milk is frothed.
DOES IT WORK?
I think this milk frother works very well and it does not take long to make the milk as soft and airy as you would want for your cup of coffee. I think it takes less than one minute but you have to put effort into pumping the handle or your froth will be flat and washed out. I like the way the froth sits on top of my coffee when I have used it because it is so light and it tastes delicious when I sprinkle on some chocolate or spices.
WHAT I THINK
I have owned my Bodum Latteo for 2 years and I use it quite a lot. I am Italian so have a great love for good coffee, I collect cafetieres and have many of them but I also have an electric coffee machine that makes excellent coffee but the frothing function is not very good and poor froth spoils a good cup of coffee. I like that I can make myself a quality coffee out of my machine and when it has almost finished I prepare my frothy milk for a coffee that is nearly as good as my local coffee shop at home in Italy.
It is very easy to clean in my dish washer or in the sink. I wash it usually in the dish washer because the milk makes it hard to remove the full greasy residue by hand, when I take it out of the dish washer the glass is sparkling clean and you would not know that it was 2 years old from looking at it. I cannot make it look so clean when I wash it in the sink. I like that the black line to show how much milk to put in has not faded and neither has the Bodum logo so it all still looks the same as it did when it was new.
I paid over £20 for my Latteo milk frother when I bought it but it is cheaper now and you can buy them new for £14. My sister bought a used one from Ebay and paid only two pounds, it had hardly been used when she got it in the mail and was even in the box. I think this would be something a lot of people would buy and not use very much before they sold it again so you should look and see if you can find a bargain.
