JVC GR AX 7 ... bought this camcorder several years ago as it seemed to be the neatest and compact one on the market at the time. I had no knowledge of using one and bought it fairly blindly! Luckily for me, I picked a good one. Years later it is still performing as well as it did then and never lets me down. The pictures are sharp and in focus and the colour is excellent. It's very easy to hold and use, has an excellent zoom lens and the picture remains very steady, even in the hands of an amateur like me! Quite light to carry it has lots of useful features, a date stamp, a facility where you can put in the date (presumably if you are filming a child from birth), low light... Samsung VP L 500 ... thought I would update my opinion seen as I've had this camcorder for just over 3 months. First the technical stuff. 22x high ratio zoom lens. 440x digital zoom. LCD screen for instant playback. 12 special digital effects. 6 automatic exposure modes. Plus lots more features, this camcorder includes all the accessories to get you up and running eg: Power adapter, Battery pack, Video lead, Shoulder strap etc. Road Test. Samsung VP A 30 ... we bought our camcorder we wanted it mainly to record special events, family days out, and every day times to catch the kids growing up. We didn't want to spend too much but we didn't want to compromise on the quality. The Samsung VPA30 8mm is an excellent buy. It costs around £250 and has many handy features. The zoom is fantastic (x16) and the picture quality is so clear. It has an auto-manual focus so you can choose which you want to use, and 7 special effects which are a great source of entertainment in our house!
