My husband got my Canon G1000 in October 2000 as an early christmas pressy so that we could record our sons 1st birthday. He paid £349 at the time and included with the camcorder was an accessories pack which consisted of a camcorder case, battery pack and 8mm tape so that we could start recording straight away.
