I own a hitachi camcorder and have used hitachi products in challenging domestic and industrial environments for several years. I am impressed by their durability and reliability when faced with use in extreme conditions of wet and cold and when subjected to less than careful handling. I have no experience of their digital products, but having viewed SVHS footage edited in the digital domain I wonder if the additional cost involved is worthwhile. Original footage shot on SVHS is generally of acceptable standard and appears to broadcast well. If digital equipment is used to maintain this quality, the end results (copy tapes etc,) look a lot better. The best advice I suppose, is to try it and see.
