The case is compact, solid and very stylish combining an overall quality that you'd expect from Canon. It seems well and just the right fit for my Ixus 750. It is supposed to be specifically designed for the Ixus 700, 750 and 800IS. The leather seems to be of top quality leather and very well made. It's described as a "soft case" but the sides are rather stiff. This is an advantage as it offers good protection from shocks and impact. The case adds little extra bulk or weight to the camera, and if anything makes the camera look even classier than it already is. The case has a soft scratch resistant inner lining giving some protection to your camera body and in particular the LCD screen. If you clip to it to your belt, the LCD screen of the camera will face inwards towards the wearer, offering even more protection from external knocks.
As I've mentioned my camera fits into the case nicely and there is a small side opening to allow the carry strap to be used. If worn on the belt, I would recommend folding the strap back into the case for security. The case closes by means of a magnetic button on the top flap is reassuringly strong. I would say that, with the carry strap folded away, and considering the strength of the magnetic fastener, stiffness of the case and tightness of the camera, it would be extremely difficult for someone to grab and snatch your camera. For better safety though I would never leave my equipment exposed. Tuck it away in a larger bag or slip into an inside pocket.
On the negative side, there's no space for spare batteries/memory cards etc.
The belt loop does not release so you need to undo your belt and slide the case on rather than being able to hook it over the top and fasten it. One might argue that you given the price we pay for our cameras, a quality case should come free and I have a lot of sympathy with this argument. This case was originally offered for me to buy in Curry's for £20 but I saw it later on Amazon and made a purchase for £12.
Overall I would recommend this case if you want to keep your camera clean and scratch free. It's probably only an essential item if you're planning to rough it on a long journey over land and sea, otherwise a plastic bag would be just as good. And if you're not bothered about a bit of wear and tear then maybe spending over a tenner will be a bit too much.
Summary: Camera case for treacherous journeys
